Rebirth: My CEO Husband's Thoughts Are Too Shameless
Chapter 96: A garbage bagAdrian gestured toward the parked car.
"Come on," he said casually. "Let me give you a ride."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked toward the vehicle.
Logan immediately stepped forward, opened the rear door with practiced professionalism, and motioned for Clara to get in.
"Please."
Clara looked from Logan to Adrian, still trying to process what had just happened.
That’s it? No questions? No interrogation?
These people were far more unpredictable than she had expected.
After a brief hesitation, she climbed into the car.
As Logan quietly closed the door behind her, Clara couldn’t help but wonder whether Adrian was genuinely easygoing... or simply impossible to read.

Meanwhile, Alex ran as fast as his legs could carry him.
He didn’t stop until he flagged down a taxi and practically threw himself into the back seat.
"Drive!" he blurted out.
The driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror. "Where to, sir?"
"My apartment!" Alex replied, constantly looking over his shoulder as though someone was chasing him.
The entire ride home, his heart refused to slow down.
The thought of Dominic Sterling’s men finding him was enough to send chills down his spine.
Back then, after Clara had married Dominic, he had actually dared to sneak into the Sterling mansion. He had been convinced Clara would protect him.
Instead...
She had personally ordered him to be thrown out.
He had barely escaped without being beaten half to death by Dominic’s bodyguards.
Remembering that humiliation still made him shudder.
There was no way he was voluntarily putting himself in front of those men again.
The moment he reached his apartment, Alex rushed inside and slammed the door shut behind him.
Click.
Only after locking it did he finally let out a shaky breath.
"How...?" he muttered, pacing back and forth across the living room.
His fingers ran frantically through his already messy hair.
"How did Clara find out?"
His breathing grew heavier with every passing second.
There was no way she should have known about the birthday incident.
Only he and Julianna knew what had really happened that night.
"So how..."
The more he thought about it, the more unsettled he became.
Without wasting another second, he grabbed his phone and dialed Julianna’s number.
The call connected after a few rings.
"Hello?" Julianna’s sleepy voice came through the speaker.
"Julianna!" Alex practically shouted.
His words tumbled out in one breath.
"Clara knows... she knows the truth!"
There was a brief silence on the other end.
"What truth?" Julianna asked, suddenly alert.
Alex swallowed hard. "She knows it was you who drugged her on her birthday... and that I covered it up."
Despite trying to keep his voice steady, panic seeped into every word.
For the first time in years... Alex genuinely felt that everything he had worked so hard to hide was beginning to fall apart.

Back inside the car, silence settled over the backseat.
Clara stared out the window for a few moments before finally giving in to her curiosity.
"Mr. Graham..."
Adrian looked up from the tablet in his hands.
"Yes?"
She hesitated before asking, "How much... did you actually see back there?"
The question lingered in the air.
Clara nervously glanced at him. For some reason, Adrian’s silence made her far more anxious than his usual laughter ever did.
She could handle him teasing her. She couldn’t handle him quietly judging her.
After a brief pause, Adrian finally spoke.
"I saw enough to conclude that the man ran away because he genuinely believed he was about to lose his life."
"..."
Clara’s smile stiffened.
"Well..." she said awkwardly, "...he wasn’t entirely wrong."
She scratched her cheek.
"If you hadn’t shown up, I might’ve had to arrange his funeral."
This time, both Adrian and Logan looked at her in surprise.
There wasn’t the slightest hint of guilt in her voice.
She wasn’t trying to exaggerate. She was simply stating a fact.
Adrian couldn’t help chuckling. "I appreciate your honesty."
Clara shrugged. "I’ve already embarrassed myself enough today. Lying now wouldn’t improve the situation."
She let out a small sigh before adding,
"Anyway, I’m sorry you had to witness all that. As for that man..." She waved her hand dismissively. "Just ignore him. He’s as irrelevant as a garbage bag."
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "A garbage bag?"
Clara nodded seriously. "At least garbage bags are useful."
For a second, the car fell silent. Then Adrian burst into laughter. Even Logan, who rarely reacted, pressed his lips together to stop himself from smiling.
"So..." Adrian wiped the corner of his eye. "He’s actually worse than garbage."
"Exactly."
Their eyes met, and Clara couldn’t help laughing as well. The heavy atmosphere from earlier disappeared almost instantly.
After a while, Adrian’s smile slowly faded into something gentler.
"I won’t ask what he did to make you dislike him so much," he said. "Everyone has a past they don’t wish to explain."
Clara looked at him quietly.
"But..." Adrian continued, "allow me to give you one piece of advice."
She straightened slightly.
"I’m listening."
Adrian looked out the windshield before speaking in a calm voice.
"Never waste your life trying to get even with someone who isn’t worth your time."
Clara remained silent.
"People like that survive on attention," he continued. "Your anger, your hatred, even your desire for revenge—they all keep them connected to your life."
He smiled faintly.
"The greatest punishment you can give such a person is to become so happy and successful that they no longer have a place in your story."
His words were simple, yet they carried the weight of experience.
For reasons even Adrian couldn’t explain, he felt an urge to protect the young woman sitting beside him.
Perhaps it was kindness. Perhaps instinct. Or perhaps...
If fate had been kinder, the daughter he once dreamed of having with Diana might have smiled just like Clara did now.
That dream had disappeared the day he lost the woman he loved.
Sometimes he still wondered...
If he hadn’t turned his back after believing Diana had chosen someone else, would their lives have been different?
Clara broke the silence.
"And what if they don’t stop trying to become part of my story?"
Adrian smiled knowingly.
"Then," he replied, "keep turning the page and erase them permanently."
