Xuexue laughed, "Let’s see if you’ll still want to roast it at the drop of a hat in the future?"
Long Rui said earnestly, "Who would dare to roast my wife’s pet? I’d be the first to not let them off."
Finally, he added, "Don’t worry, my dear. I’ll be nice to Xiao Jiu from now on, giving it the meat first to eat."
Xuexue: "Prince, don’t spoil it because of this. Don’t let Xiao Jiu become so spoiled that it forgets it’s a bird."
Long Rui laughed, "Didn’t you hear what Xiao Jiu calls me? No matter how spoiled, it won’t get carried away."
Long Rui used to often threaten to roast Xiao Jiu because he was skilled in martial arts, and now and then flicked a thread of finger energy to knock Xiao Jiu out of the sky. Xiao Jiu was afraid of him and gave him a nickname, "Big Bad Guy," which shows that Long Rui wasn’t just harsh to Xiao Jiu but really acted on it. Of course, all were harmless jokes; after all, with his martial arts, killing a small bird would be all too easy.
Only Long Yi and Xuexue knew Long Rui had already neutralized the poison; everyone else thought the Prince was still comatose in bed.
A few days later, as Gu Lingqiao recovered from her injuries, she felt more and more unwilling. She came with maids and old maids multiple times to gather information, but they were all blocked outside by the guards.
Outside was as noisy as a marketplace.
Inside the bedroom was a different scene.
Long Rui and Xuexue sat facing each other with a Go board on the table between them, both intensely focused on the game, oblivious to the outside noise.
Zi Xia and Long Yi stood nearby attending to them, occasionally exchanging sweet, meaningful glances, creating a very harmonious atmosphere.
Xuexue rested her chin in one hand while moving a piece with the other and said, "Prince, your childhood sweetheart causing trouble every day isn’t a solution. Lin Kong hasn’t shown up either. We need to come up with a strategy to turn things around."
Long Rui focused intently on the Go board, "What can we do? We can only wait. It’s already lucky enough that the Emperor isn’t causing trouble for us."
The Emperor wasn’t really staying out of it; he was overwhelmed with his own issues. For the past few days, Long Rui had been staying within the mansion, unaware that Wei Country was brewing trouble and a challenge letter had already reached the Emperor, who was too preoccupied to think about him.
Xuexue frowned and said, "We can’t just keep waiting like this. If Lin Kong doesn’t show up, are we going to let this imposter run rampant in the mansion?"
When Gu Lingqiao first entered the mansion, she seemed like a well-bred lady and never spoke loudly, but gradually her true nature was revealed. Her temperament was not as gentle as it initially seemed; she became irritable and quick to anger, frequently losing her temper and being harsh with the servants, resorting to hitting or scolding when disagreements arose.
The servants in the mansion held very negative opinions about her, but because of her status as the Prince’s childhood sweetheart, they dared not speak up.
Long Rui lowered his head in thought and said, "Right now, only Gu Lingqiao can draw Lin Kong out; we have no other choice."
Long Yi agreed, "Indeed, Prince. Lin Kong is hiding too well. I’ve sent many people to search in and around the Capital, but we’ve found no trace of him."
Long Rui waved his hand, "Forget it. Have the brothers pull back. Making things too tense will backfire, making Lin Kong even more reluctant to show up. What we need to do now is stay relaxed on the outside while remaining vigilant inside."
"Prince, I’ll arrange it immediately."
"Hmm, go ahead."
"Yes."
Long Yi immediately understood, turned and walked out, preparing to call back the men outside.
