「The next morning.」

CLICK. The door closed softly.

Xue Rui was jolted awake by the sound. Squinting, he glanced toward the balcony. He couldn’t tell what the young woman was doing out there, but he saw Yu Minlan walk past him.

Her dad was the same way, groaning and grumbling whenever he stretched. She thought Xue Rui was acting like a crotchety old man, completely oblivious to his image in front of a beautiful woman.

Of course, by ’beautiful woman,’ she didn’t mean herself, but the breathtakingly beautiful Lin Ruoxi.

Xue Rui squinted and retorted with a laugh, "You can call me Dad if you want. I don’t mind having an old daughter like you."

He might order Yu Minlan around when they were on the clock, but during their personal time, he treated her as a friend.

But for some reason, the image of Gu Muxue’s confident, sunny smile flashed through her mind...

A pang of sadness hit Lin Ruoxi, and the world before her began to blur.

’Don’t cry, you can’t cry...’ The young woman tilted her head back, staring at the ceiling. Her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes blinked rapidly as she tried her best to will the tears away.
