Rebirth: The Blind Heiress Makes A Deal With The Devil
Chapter 103: DarknessKian stood locked in place. He wanted to speak, wanted to tell her it wasn’t like that, wanted to pull her close and erase the agony in her voice, but the words died in his throat.
"I spent weeks trying to figure out what I did wrong!" Isabella sobbed angrily, stepping closer, her hand clutching her own chest as if trying to keep her heart from bursting.
"I thought you hated me! I thought you wanted me gone! I gave you what you wanted, Kian! I left! I gave you the chance to finally get rid of me! So why are you fighting for me now?! Why won’t you just let me go?!"
Her words cut straight into his ribcage, tearing through him with catastrophic force.
Every accusation was true, and the sheer hatred rolling off her in waves made him feel like he was suffocating.
He had hated her. When they first married, he had despised how soft she was, how naive, how sheltered and gentle.
He had agreed to Alice’s plan to strip her of her father’s assets and kill her off. He had looked forward to the day she would vanish from his life forever.
And keeping her blind had been his ultimate leash. He had wanted her blind because he was terrified, terrified that if those clear, dark eyes ever truly looked at him, she would see the monster beneath the suit, the hollow, ugly darkness inside his soul.
Keeping her in the dark kept her dependent. It kept her safe from the truth of what he was.
But standing there, listening to her hate him, Kian felt a sickening realization bleed through his mind.
He didn’t know when the hatred had turned into obsession. He didn’t know when her absence had become an unbearable torture, or why his house felt like a grave without the soft sound of her voice.
He had wanted to destroy her, but the moment she walked away, it felt like his own soul had been gutted out without his permission.
He missed her face. He missed her warmth. Losing her was a nightmare he couldn’t survive.
"Answer me!" Isabella raised her hands, blindly striking out at his chest in a desperate demand for a truth that made any sense. "Why are you being so stubborn now when all you ever did was try to get rid of me?!"
Niko stepped in quickly, catching her wrists gently. "Isabella, stop. Don’t hurt yourself."
Isabella collapsed slightly against Niko’s arm, her shoulders shaking as she wept bitter, angry tears, her blind gaze still fixed in Kian’s direction.
Kian looked at her trembling frame. Something deep inside his chest, the last thread of his sanity, the last piece of denial he had been holding onto, snapped clean in half.
The pain reached a point where it stopped hurting altogether, turning into a cold, hollow void.
A quiet, breathless laugh escaped his lips.
Arthur turned to him in utter disbelief. Niko froze. Even Aaron’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Isabella went rigid, her weeping cutting off sharply. "What’s so funny?" she whispered, her voice laced with horror. "What is so funny to you?!"
Kian looked down at her, a dark, empty smile spreading across his face.
"So what?" Kian said softly.
Isabella gasped, recoiling as if he had struck her.
"So what if I did all those things?" Kian repeated, his voice dropping into a flat, terrifying register. He didn’t apologize. He didn’t deny it.
He looked at her like a man who had finally stopped pretending to be human. "So what if I lied? So what if I kept you in the dark? It doesn’t change anything, Isabella."
He took a slow step forward, his eyes dropping down from her face to the subtle curve of her stomach beneath her heavy coat.
"I’m not letting you go," Kian said, his dark eyes locking onto her belly with a desperate, possessive heat. "You’re carrying my blood within you. That child is mine."
A wave of pure nausea washed over Isabella. Hearing him lay claim to the child in her womb made her stomach churn violently. She pulled back into Niko’s side, sickened to her very core.
"Then maybe I won’t carry it," Isabella whispered, her voice turning ice-cold. "Maybe I’ll get rid of it."
The smile instantly vanished from Kian’s face. His eyes flared with a sudden, wild rage, his calm mask shattering into jagged pieces.
"You wouldn’t," Kian barked, his voice rising sharply, filling the quiet courtroom. "You wouldn’t dare! I know you, Isabella! You’re soft! You’re gentle! You don’t have the heart to do something like that!"
"You don’t know me at all anymore, Kian," she spat back, her voice steadying despite her tears.
"I know you better than anyone!" Kian took another aggressive step toward her, his breathing heavy and erratic.
"You are my wife! I am your husband! It doesn’t matter how many lawyers you hire, or how far you try to run! I will always catch up to you, Isabella! You belong to me!"
Before Kian could reach her, Aaron stepped smoothly between them.
Aaron’s broad frame completely blocked Kian’s view of Isabella. Aaron didn’t raise his hands.
He didn’t say a word. He simply looked down at Kian with a dark, silent promise in his eyes, a look that made it clear what would happen if Kian took one more step.
Kian stopped, his chest heaving, his jaw clenched so hard his teeth groaned.
Aaron turned slowly, wrapping a firm, protective arm around Isabella’s shoulders. "We’re leaving," Aaron said quietly, guiding her toward the heavy double doors. Niko walked right beside them, keeping his body positioned between Isabella and Kian until they cleared the threshold.
Isabella didn’t look back. She let Aaron lead her away, her head resting against his chest as the heavy doors swung shut behind them, sealing them out into the hallway.
"Kian! That’s enough!" Arthur yelled, grabbing Kian’s arm tightly, trying to drag him back toward the table. "Look at yourself! You’re unravelling in the middle of a courtroom! We need to leave right now!"
Kian didn’t even look at Arthur. The touch felt like fire on his skin.
With a sudden, violent twist of his shoulders, Kian shoved Arthur away with brute force.
Arthur stumbled backward, his shoes slipping on the polished floor, hitting the edge of the counsel table with a hard thud. His briefcase tumbled off the surface, scattering court papers all over the floor.
Arthur stood up slowly, clutching his side, staring at his client in absolute shock and fear.
Kian’s chest heaved up and down in ragged breaths. He stared at the closed wooden doors where Isabella had vanished, the red mark on his cheek still burning, his mind completely trapped in the terrifying dark he had built around them both.
