Someone I loved.
Loved?
Loved.
The swords were quiet.
Then Excalibur spoke.
The Princess.
Jennie felt her heart tighten.
Yes.
Do you remember her?
Bits. Pieces.
Do you remember what happened?
Jennie shook her head.
No. Just... emotions. Feelings. Shape of something I can’t grasp.
She paused.
But I hurt her.
You didn’t hurt her.
Leviathan’s voice was gentle.
You let her go.
That’s worse.
No. It’s different.
How?
Because letting someone go is different from abandoning.
Jennie looked down into her tea cup. It was cold now, reflecting her face like a dark mirror.
I promised I would come back.
And you did.
It took a year.
A year is nothing for an immortal.
Jennie’s head shot up.
What?
Excalibur’s presence became warmer and more insistent.
Lilia. I just think Lilia received a divine sword.
Jennie’s breath caught.
How do you know?
Because we can feel it.
Leviathan’s voice was calm.
Go and receive the sword .
Tempest’s voice was unusually soft.
She dreams of you. Even if she doesn’t realize it.
Jennie closed her eyes.
I can’t tell her.
Why not?
Because she deserves better.
Better than what?
Better than me.
The swords were quiet.
Then Excalibur spoke.
You’re an idiot.
Jennie’s eyes flew open.
Excuse me?
You heard me. You’re an idiot.
Excalibur—
No. Listen to me.
The sword’s presence blazed with intensity.
You’ve spent a year running away from your past. A year hiding from who you are. A year telling yourself you don’t deserve happiness.
But you do.
You deserve love. You deserve peace. You deserve to be happy.
And she deserves to know the truth.
Jennie’s eyes filled with tears.
What if she hates me?
She won’t.
What if she’s afraid?
She won’t be.
What if—
What if you stop being a coward and fight for something for once?
Jennie froze.
Tempest’s voice broke through her thoughts.
Excalibur is right. You’ve been running for too long.
We’ve watched you suffer. We’ve watched you isolate yourself. We’ve watched you push everyone away because you’re afraid of getting hurt.
But that’s not living. That’s just existing.
Leviathan’s presence enveloped her like a gentle wave.
You told us once that you want a peaceful life.
Jennie’s voice was barely a whisper.
I did.
Then take it.
Take the peace. Take the love. Take the happiness.
Take her.
Jennie’s tears fell.
I don’t know if I can.
You can.
Excalibur’s voice was warm.
Because you’re Leonis. The Sword King. The greatest warrior the world has ever seen.
And you’ve never lost a battle you truly wanted to win.
Jennie laughed—a sad, watery laugh.
This isn’t a battle.
Everything is a battle.
Tempest’s voice sounded amused.
But some battles are worth fighting.
Jennie wiped her tears.
You three are impossible.
We know.
We love you regardless.
Even when you are annoying.
Jennie smiled.
I love you all the same.
The swords buzzed with warmth.
Then Excalibur spoke again.
Aurelia knows.
Jennie tensed.
What?
Aurelia. The Divine Sword of Light. She knows who you are.
Jennie’s heart stopped.
How do you know?
Because we can feel her.
Leviathan’s voice was serious.
She’s here. In the palace. She has been watching over the royal family.
And she knows.
Jennie’s mind worked furiously.
Does she know about you?
No.
She knows about Excalibur—she can feel me. But she doesn’t know that Leviathan and Tempest are with you.
Why?
Because we have been hiding.
Tempest’s voice was thoughtful.
We didn’t want to reveal ourselves until we were sure.
Sure of what?
Sure that you were ready.
Jennie was silent.
Then:
Will she tell Lilia?
No.
How do you know?
Because she’s afraid.
Excalibur’s voice was soft.
She’s afraid of what will happen if Lilia remembers. She’s afraid of the pain it will cause.
She’s protecting her.
Jennie closed her eyes.
She’s not the only one.
No.
She’s not.
The swords were quiet for a moment.
Then Leviathan spoke.
Jennie.
Yes?
You need to talk to her.
To Lilia?
To both of them.
Jennie frowned.
What do you mean?
Aurelia is hiding the truth from Lilia. But she’s also hiding it from you.
She knows who you are, but she hasn’t told you either.
She’s waiting for you to remember. To make a choice.
Choice?
To reveal yourself.
Jennie was silent.
She wants you to make the first move. To show her that you are ready to face the truth.
To show her that you are ready to love Lilia again.
Jennie’s heart ached.
I am ready.
Then prove it.
Tempest’s voice was challenging.
Stop hiding. Stop running. Stop being afraid.
Tell Lilia the truth.
Tell her who you are.
Tell her who she is.
Tell her that you love her.
Jennie’s breath caught.
I...
You can do this.
Excalibur’s voice was warm.
We believe in you.
We always did.
Jennie closed her eyes.
A single tear fell down her cheek.
Okay.
I’ll do it.
I’ll tell her.
The swords hummed with approval.
Good.
Finally.
About time.
Jennie laughed.
You three are the worst.
We know.
But you love us.
Unfortunately.
The messenger came a few minutes later.
"Raven."
Jennie looked up.
"Her Majesty summons you."
Jennie closed her eyes.
Of course.
She stood.
"Let’s go."
Snow followed.
Roxy followed Snow.
The messenger stared at the three of them.
"Is the wolf coming too?"
Snow looked offended.
"I’m a part of the royal team."
Jennie sighed.
"No one asked."
The Royal War Room
Jennie entered the room and immediately realized the atmosphere.
Lilia stood in front of a huge magical map.
Arthur was there.
Lucas was there.
Several royal knights stood along the walls.
And Aurelia, pulsing with golden light, was floating next to the ceiling.
Jennie’s heart missed a beat.
The Divine Sword of Light.
She had no form. She was incorporeal. She had no body, no face, no human shape. She was just light – pure and radiant light that brought warmth into the room.
However, when Jennie came inside, the light pulsed.
Recognition.
Aurelia knew.
She knew who Jennie was.
And she did not utter a word.
Jennie’s face changed.
"This seems serious."
Lilia turned.
"It is."
Their eyes met.
They stared at each other.
Then Lilia smiled.
"Welcome, Raven."
Jennie moved a little closer.
"Your Majesty."
Lilia pointed to the map.
"The ancient great mages discovered something."
Jennie looked at the glowing symbols on the map.
Her face grew serious.
"The Divine Swords."
Lilia nodded.
"The remaining Divine Swords were awakened."
Jennie moved closer.
"How many?"
"Three ."
Jennie gazed at the map.
Three unknown locations.
One in Nocturne.
One near the Forbidden Battlefield.
One beneath an ancient ruin.
And one hidden from the maps.
Lilia continued.
"We think the Demon Generals found them."
Jennie’s gaze narrowed.
"So they’re going to grab the swords."
"Yes."
"Then we can’t let them get there first."
Lilia smiled.
"That’s why I summoned you."
Jennie was not surprised where this conversation would go.
"No."
Lilia blinked.
"I didn’t say anything yet."
"You were going to assign me a new mission."
"I was."
"No."
"Jennie."
"No."
Lilia sighed.
"You are very hard-headed."
"I’m trying to protect my peaceful life."
Roxy whispered to Snow.
"She really thinks she has one."
Snow nodded.
"She’s delusional."
Jennie ignored them.
But while Lilia was continuing to speak, Jennie’s gaze moved to Aurelia.
The Divine Sword of Light was looking at her.
Without aggression. Without suspicion.
With sadness.
With understanding.
With knowledge.
Jennie knew this gaze.
It was the gaze of someone who had a secret. Someone who knew a truth too hard to reveal.
Aurelia knew.
And she waited.
She waited for Jennie to move first.
To be brave.
Jennie’s fingers clenched around Excalibur’s hilt.
She knows.
Yes.
Excalibur’s voice was calm.
She’s been waiting for you.
For how long?
Since the moment she felt your presence.
Jennie closed her eyes.
What should I do?
What you’ve always done.
Fight.
No. This is not a fight.
Then what is it?
It’s a choice.
Jennie opened her eyes.
I choose to be brave.
Then show it.
Jennie looked at Aurelia.
The light pulsed.
And for the first time, Jennie saw something else in that golden glow.
Hope.
Lilia’s voice pierced through her thoughts.
"Raven."
Jennie turned.
"Yes, Your Majesty?"
Lilia smiled.
"I want you to find the remaining Divine Swords."
Jennie looked at the map.
"If the Demon Generals obtain them..."
"The balance of the world could collapse," Lilia completed her thought.
Jennie was silent.
She understood what the Divine Swords meant.
She knew what they were able to do.
And most importantly...
She knew what would happen if they were obtained by the wrong people.
Finally, she nodded.
"Okay."
Lilia smiled.
"But I have one condition."
Jennie raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
"I’m traveling alone."
Roxy immediately raised her hand.
"Absolutely not."
Jennie looked at her.
"I wasn’t asking you."
"I’m coming."
"No."
"I’ve already decided."
Snow raised his paw.
"I’m also coming."
Jennie looked at him.
"You don’t even know what alone means."
Snow looked self-important.
"I understand perfectly."
Roxy crossed her arms.
"You need a mage."
Snow wagged his tail.
"You need a wolf."
Jennie sighed.
"You two are impossible."
Lilia was watching the scene amusedly.
Then she smiled.
"I know."
Jennie looked at her.
"You know?"
Lilia nodded.
"I know you want to travel alone."
Jennie relaxed a bit.
"Good."
Lilia continued to smile.
"I also know that you won’t be alone."
Jennie’s face froze.
"What?"
Lilia turned to the knights.
"I’ve already arranged everything."
Jennie instantly grew suspicious.
"What did you arrange?"
Lilia raised her hand.
The doors opened.
CLANK.
Thirty royal knights appeared in the room.
In the lead there was Lucas.
Beside him several elite knights dressed in the armor of Seraiya’s royalty.
Jennie’s face froze.
"No."
Lucas smiled awkwardly.
"No."
"Her Majesty ordered us to accompany you."
Jennie slowly turned to Lilia.
"You said I could travel freely."
Lilia nodded.
"I did."
Jennie pointed at Lucas.
"Then why is the Lord Commander of Royal Knights here?"
"Protection."
"Why are thirty royal knights here?"
"Protection."
"Why is Sir Arthur outside?"
Lilia smiled.
"Protection."
Jennie stared at her.
"You’ve encircled me with an army."
Lilia shook her head.
"Not an army."
She stopped.
"A royal escort."
Jennie looked at Roxy.
Roxy shrugged.
"Technically, she’s right."
Jennie looked at Snow.
Snow nodded.
"Very technically."
Jennie rubbed her forehead.
"Lilia."
The Queen’s smile became innocent.
"Yes?"
"I said I want to travel alone."
"And I agreed."
Jennie pointed at the knights.
"This is not alone."
Lilia calmy said:
"I said you could travel."
She moved closer.
"I didn’t say you could travel without my protection."
Jennie froze.
For several seconds, she was unable to say anything.
Then she whispered:
"...That’s cheating."
Lilia smiled.
"That’s royal authority."
Lucas tried not to laugh.
Arthur failed.
Roxy covered her mouth.
Snow fell down and started laughing.
Jennie stared at everybody.
"This is a conspiracy."
Lilia moved closer and put the collar of Jennie’s maid uniform back in place.
"You’re my personal maid now."
Jennie’s eye twitched.
"And?"
Lilia smiled.
"That means your safety is my responsibility."
Jennie looked away.
"You didn’t have to make it so complicated."
"I did."
"Why?"
Lilia’s smile softened.
"Because I don’t want to lose you."
Jennie’s face instantly changed.
The joking atmosphere disappeared.
For a moment, she remembered the past.
A little girl.
A princess.
Two cups of tea.
An empty chair.
A promise beneath an ancient tree.
You’ll stay with me, right?
Jennie lowered her eyes.
"... Queen Lilia."
The Queen smiled.
"Come back safely."
Jennie nodded.
"I will."
Then she turned to the royal knights.
Her face became cold.
"Okay."
The knights straightened.
Jennie pointed at them.
"But nobody interferes with my battles."
Lucas raised an eyebrow.
"That’s reasonable."
"And nobody touches my sword."
Arthur looked confused.
"Why would anyone touch your sword?"
Jennie gaped at him.
"You’d be surprised."
Snow lifted his paw.
"And nobody touches my food."
Roxy lifted her hand.
"And nobody touches my spellbooks."
Jennie looked at both of them.
"Why are you two negotiating?"
Roxy smiled.
"We’re part of the team."
Jennie sighed.
"I wanted a quiet journey."
Lilia chuckled softly.
"You should know better."
Jennie looked at the map again.
Four more Divine Swords.
Four more destinations unknown.
And in the darkness...
The Demon Generals were on their way.
Her fingers clenched.
"If the demons search for them..."
She looked towards the distant magical map.
"...then we’ll find them first."
Lilia nodded.
"That is your mission."
Jennie turned to the door.
But before she left, she looked at Aurelia.
The Divine Sword still observed her.
Still waited.
Still hoped.
Jennie nodded.
A simple gesture.
A simple promise.
I will tell her.
One day.
I will tell her everything.
Aurelia’s light shone brightly.
Then it dimmed.
Warm, soft glow.
A light smile of relief.
A light smile of hope.
Jennie turned away.
Roxy followed.
Snow followed Roxy.
Lucas and the royal knights followed.
Jennie paused.
Slowly, she turned around.
"...How many people are coming?"
Lucas smiled.
"Thirty-two."
Jennie’s face paled.
"Thirty-two?!"
Lilia waved sweetly from the other side of the room.
"Good luck, Raven."
Jennie pointed accusingly at her.
"This is not traveling alone!"
Lilia smiled.
"I know."
Jennie groaned.
The start of her first mission as the Queen’s personal maid.
And already...
She misses her peaceful life.
While leaving the war room, Aurelia stood alone.
She watched them leave.
She watched Jennie leave.
She watched the knights following.
She watched the white wolf running next to the mage.
And her light glowed.
He will tell her.
Finally.
After all these years.
She floated towards Lilia.
The Queen was standing in front of the map, looking thoughtful.
Aurelia’s light glowed warmly.
Mad Princess .
Lilia looked up.
"Aurelia?"
The light dimmed a little.
There is something that I have to tell you.
Lilia frowned.
"What is it?"
Aurelia was silent.
But then spoke.
It is about Raven.
Lilia’s face changed.
"What about her?"
Aurelia’s light glowed in the slow and gentle rhythm.
She is not who you think she is.
Lilia gasped.
"What do you mean?"
Aurelia’s voice was low and calm.
I mean...
She paused.
...she is who you have been waiting for.
Lilia’s heart stopped.
"Waiting for?"
Aurelia’s light grew brighter.
For a long time.
It glowed warmly.
And I believe...
The light touched Lilia’s chest.
A warm sensation in her heart.
...that you already know.
Lilia put her hand to her chest.
The ache was there.
The longing.
The hope.
The love.
"...Who is she?"
Aurelia’s light became softer.
She is the one who promised to come back.
Lilia held her breath.
And she has kept her promise.
