"Liam, come help me fold the laundry."

The figure in the doorway didn’t move an inch. This stubborn thing really did have a temper.

"I’m going to take a shower. Go back to your own room and rest early."

The word "shower" triggered something. Liam immediately dog-paddled over with bright enthusiasm.

"I’ll wash you."

"No."

His face turned sour. He was the classic type of intensely handsome man, so when he scowled, it was extremely obvious. The dense cluster of piercings along his ears only made him look even more rebellious.

"Why not? You’re already my wife. Why can’t I look?"

Wasn’t taking care of a guide’s every need—eating, drinking, and everything else—exactly what an exclusive sentinel was supposed to do?

Bunny shot him a flat look. "We’re dating. You haven’t been promoted to official husband yet."

Liam was completely unreasonable. "So dating means I’m not allowed to bathe you? Please, just let me wash you. I promise I won’t do anything."

He would only look. For now.

Bunny’s expression cooled. "Liam. Are you going to start disobeying?"

Seeing her face harden, he had no choice but to go fold the freshly dried clothes with extreme reluctance.

Compared to making his wife angry, the thought of not having a wife at all was far more terrifying.

She pulled the bathroom door shut, not forgetting to warn him one last time: "No peeking."

Liam blinked his golden eyes and sat obediently on the carpet, looking perfectly well-behaved.

He folded her clothes one piece at a time, carefully sorting and hanging them—until he picked up something very small.

Huh? Such a tiny scrap of fabric. Where was this supposed to go?

The little garment was made of delicate white lace with a smooth, translucent pendant hanging in the center.

Realization struck him. This was his wife’s underwear.

He imagined for a moment what she would look like wearing it. His breath caught; heat surged in the depths of his eyes.

Seeing that she was still in the shower, he leaned in secretly and inhaled. The scent nearly made him dizzy with pleasure.

How could a woman’s body smell this good? He had grown thoroughly sick of the sweat and sentinel pheromones of all the grown men in the base.

Meanwhile, inside the bathroom, Bunny kept feeling that something was wrong.

The door was properly closed. She was alone. Yet she could not shake the sensation that something was watching her.

Fabric slid silkily to the floor. Under the cool white light, her pale, fine skin looked even more luminous—like snow steeped in milk.

The curves of her body rose and fell like mountain ridges, almost entirely free of any flaw—an enchanting muse of water and light that invited imagination.

Long pink hair cascaded down her back like a magical waterfall. She was so tender, like a delicate flower.

She stepped into the bathtub. Water immediately overflowed the edges. Through the rising mist, her cheeks took on a soft, hazy pink.

Soaking in the hot water, her skin soon flushed a translucent red. Drowsiness began to creep over her.

Yet she never stopped sensing that sticky, shadowy gaze fixed on the back of her neck—scorching, inescapable, staring and violating without the slightest restraint.

It even slipped downward through the water’s surface.

Inch by inch... like a dangerous venomous snake.

Suddenly a warm, ticklish breath brushed her ear. A low, magnetic voice thick with moisture slid along the edge of her hearing:

"The name Bunny suits you."

Her entire body jolted. She was instantly wide awake—because that was not Liam’s voice!

She opened her eyes in terror and scanned the bathroom. For a fleeting second, a blurred shadow seemed to flicker across the tiles in the corner. Apart from her, there was no one!

Whose voice had that been?!

Bunny screamed in pure panic: "Liam!"

Outside, Liam’s expression changed at once. Assuming something had happened to her, he abandoned the clothes and charged in.

"What’s wrong?"

By the time he burst through the door, Bunny had already leapt out of the bathtub in fright.

She knew with absolute certainty that she had not imagined the voice.

It had sounded right beside her ear.

She had seen a ghost!

"There’s someone in the bathroom!"

Water splashed everywhere. Her foot landed on the slick floor. Her center of gravity tilted and she toppled straight toward the smooth marble.

If she hit the ground, a broken nose would be the least of her problems.

She instinctively squeezed her eyes shut—yet the pain she expected never arrived.

In the split second before she fell, Liam’s long arm shot out, easily catching her slender waist and pulling her against his body.

When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying on top of him.

Her hands were still tightly clenched in the collar of his shirt. The fabric had been pulled open, revealing the elegant line of his collarbones and the cool-white groove of his chest muscles.

Their lips were only a few delicate millimeters apart.

From this downward angle, she could clearly see every individual lash, the cold-star sharpness of his phoenix eyes, the stray strands of hair across his forehead...

and she could also sense... the subtle change in his body.

Her scalp tightened. Only then did she realize she was completely naked, sprawled across an adult man.

Shame flooded her so intensely that her toes nearly dug holes in the floor.

"Thank you."

Her face burned as red as a monkey’s backside. She scrambled to get up at once.

But his large hand suddenly settled on the small of her back. The hot, slightly calloused pad of his thumb brushed across sensitive skin, making her flinch and try to shrink away.

The distance between them closed again. Through the soaked fabric, the heat of his tight, solid abs and thighs was terrifying—he was no different from a furnace.

Why was he so hot?

Liam lifted her from the floor and quickly wrapped her in a bath towel.

"Where is the person?"

Compared with the charged, intimate atmosphere, he was clearly far more concerned with her safety.

He scanned the entire room and found no trace of anyone else—not even a single abnormal thread of sentinel pheromones.

For sentinels, pheromones were the primary radar for detecting their own kind.

Here, there was nothing.

Bunny was still shaken. "I clearly heard someone speaking to me just now."

Liam closed his eyes and spread his mental energy throughout the space, sensing every movement.

In the black-and-white three-dimensional map of the base, he could detect Orion’s heavy breathing as he lifted weights in his room, the soft scrape of the cleaning robot scrubbing the corridor floor, and the rhythmic thuds of San punching a sandbag downstairs...

There was no sign of any intruder of the kind she described.

Strange.

He glanced at the still-frightened woman in his arms, carried her back to the bed, and wondered whether someone had infiltrated the base.

The tower’s security systems were extremely strict. Even the sentinels themselves had to pass multiple identity verifications and full-body scans upon return to prevent alien parasitic eggs.

Moreover, this bathroom was completely sealed—there was no other exit.

"Don’t be afraid. I’ll report the situation to the others. If you run into danger, press the red button on this bracelet. We’ll all receive the alert immediately."

She nodded and fastened the nano-bracelet around her wrist.

As a precaution, Liam searched the entire room thoroughly. Once he was certain no one else was present, he left his spirit form behind to keep her company and quickly gathered the other sentinels to begin a full sweep of the base.

Their tension was not without reason.

Three guides had already died here under unclear circumstances, and each death had been extremely strange. No culprit had ever been found.

Before leaving, Liam crouched beside her legs, pressed a kiss to the back of her hand, and lifted his handsome face with a deliberately mischievous smile:

"Bunny, you look really good without clothes."

Her face instantly flushed red-hot. She was about to kick him when he caught her ankle in an iron grip, rendering her completely immobile. He took the chance to kiss the top of her foot as well, then left satisfied.

She sat on the bed, fingering the bracelet in a daze, and stared back at the spirit beast that had flopped onto the carpet.

It chewed on her slipper for a while, grew bored, then stealthily used its claws to tug at the sheets, clearly intending to climb onto the bed in secret.

"You’re not allowed on the bed."
