Reborn In A Cultivation World With All Cheat Abilities
Chapter 180: Treant VillageThree days later
***
Time passed by quickly, day and night had seemed all too the same as they traveled through the roads, often time making small talk and having a laugh here and there.
They had almost not realized when they reached the Treant Village. It was a small place, once known to house the noble and peaceful tree spirits.
But as the carriage was slowly dragged inside. Jacob forced Leon to halt the horses, alighting from the vehicle to have a closer view of the terrain they had just entered.
He looked around, the air smelled like smoke and fog, all mixed together as one thick lump of air. He waved his hand in front of his face to see clearly, the village looked somewhat deserted, as though there were no living soul in this place anymore.
Some of the houses were burned to the ground, some were still barely standing. Most were unrecognizable.
Jacob turned around and the state of the village only worsened the more he looked. He took one step, realizing that Xenia had also alighted from the carriage. Only the sound of the horses whinnying, Raijin screeching, distant bird calls, and the shuffling of their feet on the ash and dust they treaded upon could be heard.
The Treant village was completely decimated, and from what it seemed, not a single soul was left alive.
They kept moving on foot, Xenia remained absolutely flabbergasted that such damage could be done to a race as peaceful as the Treants. The sights reminding her vaguely of her own hometown and how the dragons had burned it to the ground.
"What happened here?" She asked in a sympathetic and worried tone.
"Someone attacked the Treants, they’re all gone."
"Dragons?"
"Or the Demon King." Jacob’s voice was cold, he didn’t even glance ince in Xenia’s direction, he kept moving with a certainty, and urgency that scared her, as though he already knew what had happened, and what was going to happen.
They finally got to the entrance of the Garden, the Garden where the World Tree was planted. He could see the tree, in all its magnificence. It’s stem so thick and wide. The tree was so tall, it’s branches almost touched the clouds.
Both Xenia and Jacob stood in awe of it. There was a soft glow to it, as though the tree were alive, and why wouldn’t it be. It was the World Tree, the source of all cultivation.
Leon had stayed back to find a suitable place to park the carriage before joining them. He joined them as quickly as he could, panting.
"I almost lost you three for a second there!—" He announced, panting hard. "Whoaaa!"
His eyes traced the tree from bottom to top, utterly stupefied at its magnificence. Jacob had seen tbe tree in his vision, so he wasn’t as flabbergasted to see it in person. But for Xenia and Leon, it was a new experience, so he understood their shock.
The rest of the vast garden, however, was in tatters. There were large craters in the ground, cracks where there shouldn’t be. The tall grasses were burned, and the tree itself looked mildly damaged at the roots.
Jacob inched closer to the tree, Raijin perched on his shoulder, also in awe of the massive structure before it.
"Who’s there?! Who are you?" A voice demanded from within the tree, it was the voice of a woman, a familiar voice that Jacob remembered from his vision. He recognized her voice as the voice of Yggros the Treant.
Albeit he was a little startled by the sudden harsh tone, coming from a tree. He stood in place and announced himself: "I am Jacob Ironfell, you must be Yggros. I have had a vision and I am here to help defeat the Demon King. In the not too distant future, Morbius will raid this place with his demons and attempt to corrupt this tree with the Demon King’s essence, to free him from Helmand."
His introduction was brief, concise. He let Yggros know who he was and also of the impending danger that would befall them if strict action was not taken.
"Ironfell... you are related to Alaric Ironfell, right?"
"Yes."
"How is it that you know of the Demon King’s plan? Tell me why I should not smite you here right now." Yggros asked, her voice was firm, the voice of someone who really believed that she could bring the man down in one blow.
She could feel Jacob’s power, she could feel the warmth in it, but she had been deceived more than once under the premise of warmth in her life.
She needed the boy to confirm that her suspicions were wrong.
"To answer your first question—I was privy to an artifact that displayed the future to me. And the future I got to see, only happens when I do not offer assistance.
"As for the second, it is impossible for you to ’smite’ me. But if you don’t believe me, then you can wait to hear from my grandfather himself. I am only here to help."
Jacob’s words were absolute, he didn’t fear Yggros at all, her words were ones of uncertainty, not cruelty. The woman remained silent in the tree.
Xenia stood diligently behind Jacob as Leon walked aimlessly around the garden, impressed by every little thing. Even the signs of destruction impressed him as he got on his knees to inspect the tiniest crevice.
"Very well, Jacob Ironfell. If you are indeed who you say you are—and your words are true, then I will oblige you. Tell me about your vision." Yggros said.
A faint smirk crawled onto Jacob’s face, it was clear enough that they had a little time before disaster met them where they were. So he could narrate his vision and plan to her before then.
The rest of the Elder Covenant would be arriving soon enough. Light also, would soon arrive as the young man had already left the Wutherhorn estate, battle hungry as always and ready for a new adventure.
After all, who wouldn’t want to have their name in the history books for sealing the infamous Demon King.
