Reborn in hell with a skill creation system
Chapter 79: The Echo of the First BeaconThe cosmic void beyond the seventeen integrated nodes was not empty darkness; it was a silent sea of unformed possibility.
For three weeks, the Horizon Spire glided along the conceptual currents, leaving behind the warm, familiar radiance of Keter. The ship’s hull, lined with glowing golden-black mana conduits, cut a clean path through the silver mist of the outer void. On board, the atmosphere was a mix of intense focus and quiet wonder.
Mael stood on the forward deck, his dark coat humming with ambient energy as he watched the silver mist swirl around the bow. Beside him, Zara adjusted her spyglass, a tool crafted from pure Binah crystal that allowed her to see beyond physical distance into the conceptual spectrum.
"Anything?" Mael asked softly.
"Nothing standard," Zara replied, her dark eyes sharp as she adjusted the crystal lens. "No system signatures, no divine domains, and no demonic mana footprints but... look at the currents."
Mael reached out with his Stage 5 architecture. Instead of issuing a system ping, he let his consciousness expand naturally through the vessel’s hull, sensing the flow of reality outside.
The void-drift was shifting. The silver mist was no longer floating aimlessly; it was spiraling gently toward a single point in the far distance, pulled by a faint, rhythmic pulse.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
It wasn’t a heartbeat, nor was it a system objective alert. It sounded like a anvil being struck beneath miles of water.
"Echo, report," Mael called back toward the helm.
Echo’s gold-and-shadow form materialized on the forward deck in a quiet flash of light. Her processing core was spinning at a rapid, excited pace, her translucent eyes wide.
"Mael, the sensors are picking up a localized pocket of stable reality ahead," Echo said, her voice vibrating with curiosity. "It isn’t connected to the Sephiroth framework. It’s an independent structure... an anchor point built by someone else."
"Someone else?" Wrath grunted, stepping up to the railing, his hand resting instinctively on the hilt of his nether-cleaver. "You mean there are other entities out here building realms?"
"The universe is infinite, Wrath," Seraph said, stepping out from the inner cabin. Her dark violet wings flared slightly as she caught the scent of the new atmosphere. "We never assumed the Throne was the only mind in the void. We were just too busy trying to survive its game to look over the fence."
"Prepare the forward shields just in case," Mael instructed, his voice calm and steady. "We approach in peace, but we don’t drop our guard."
The Horizon Spire adjusted its course, following the spiraling silver currents toward the center of the pulse.
As they pierced through a dense wall of shimmering cosmic dust, the silver mist parted, revealing a sight that made the entire crew catch their breath.
Floating in the endless void was a colossal, ancient structure. It was not a sphere like Hesed or a city like the Iron Courts. It was a monumental, eight-sided lighthouse forged from a dark, iridescent metal that none of the soul-smiths on board could identify. Thousands of massive chains, each link the size of a warship, extended from the base of the lighthouse into the deep void, anchoring the structure to invisible points in space.
At the top of the tower burned a brilliant, deep azure flame that pulsed in time with the sound they had felt through the currents.
"It’s a beacon," Zara murmured, stepping up beside Mael at the bow. "A signal fire in the dark."
[UNKNOWN ARCHITECTURE DETECTED]
[COVENANT COMPATIBILITY: EXAMINING...]
[ATMOSPHERIC STATUS: SAFE / STABLE]
A soft prompt flickered before Mael, not as a command, but as a neutral observation from his integrated network.
"Look at the base," Remnant pointed out, his glowing divine eyes squinting at the structure. "There’s a landing quay built for ships. And... there are marks on the stone."
Mael took the helm from Echo, smoothly steering the Horizon Spire toward the stone quay. The vessel glided to a halt beside the dark metallic dock, its void-drift drives humming softly as the crew secured the docking lines.
Mael was the first to step off the ship, his boots making a quiet, crisp sound against the dark metallic floor of the quay. Zara followed close behind, accompanied by Seraph, Wrath, and Echo.
The air was cool, clean, and filled with a faint, metallic scent that reminded Mael of iron and ozone.
Engraved into the base of the colossal lighthouse was a single, massive inscription, written in a language that did not belong to Heaven or Hell. Yet, as Mael looked at it, his Stage 5 architecture translated the conceptual intent behind the symbols instantly.
To those who broke their cages:
You are not the first to look beyond the edge.
Welcome to the Waystation of the Unbound.
Mael smiled, tracing the etched metal with his fingers. The surface was warm to the touch, humming with an ancient, peaceful energy that welcomed them without judgment or demand.
"We’re not alone out here," Zara said softly, looking up at the azure flame burning brightly above them.
"No," Mael replied, his gold-flecked eyes shining with quiet excitement as he looked up toward the spiral staircase leading into the lighthouse. "We’re just the newest travelers to arrive."
He turned back to look at his companions, their faces illuminated by the azure beacon and the golden light of their own ship.
"Let’s see who left the light on," Mael said, stepping through the open archway of the beacon.
The heavy archway gave way to a grand chamber filled with floor-to-ceiling maps of uncharted star clusters, each lit by swirling cosmic threads. At the center sat a simple wooden table with an open parchment and an unlit lantern.
Zara stepped forward, placing her silver-threaded ledger beside the ancient parchment.
"This place was built to connect wanderers," she whispered, her eyes tracing the glowing star maps.
Mael picked up the unlit lantern. A single spark from his crown ignited it with golden-shadow flame.
"Then let’s add our map to the library," Mael said, setting the lant
ern down to light the path for whoever came next.
