Chapter 2792: Caught The Bullets EffortlesslyChapter 2792: Chapter 2792: Caught The Bullets Effortlessly
Instinctive terror took over. As Yu Qi and Long Hui began taking slow, measured steps toward him, Hector Vaughn frantically scrambled backwards on his hands and knees.
"No! Stay back! Don’t come any closer!" Hector Vaughn screamed, his composure completely shattering into raw desperation.
Panicking, he whipped up his firearm and pulled the trigger repeatedly.
Bang!
The thunderous gunshot echoed across the quiet deck.
Hector Vaughn prayed that at least one round would find its mark and slow them down. However, his expression contorted in absolute disbelief at what happened next.
Long Hui simply raised his hand in a swift, casual arc. The high-velocity bullet flew straight toward his open palm and was caught effortlessly between his fingers.
Hector Vaughn’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. Long Hui casually flicked his wrist, tossing the flattened piece of lead aside as if it were nothing more than a useless pebble.
"You..." Hector Vaughn backed away in total horror, his hand shaking so violently he could barely hold the gun.
The couple continued their relentless advance, showing not the slightest trace of hesitation or fear. They treated his lethal weapon like a child’s toy. Within seconds, they towered directly over him.
Hector Vaughn stumbled backwards in a panic, his heel catching on an exposed metal cleat on the deck. He lost his balance entirely and landed heavily on his tailbone. Normally, Hector Vaughn was an untouchable, high-ranking commander, revered and feared because an army of heavily armed mercenaries constantly shielded him. On this isolated island, he was an absolute king whose word was law.
Yet right now, he was stripped of everything. His guards were all unconscious. His escape routes were severed. Even the gun in his hand was entirely useless. How could he feel anything other than paralysing terror?
"What... what do you want from me?!" Hector Vaughn whimpered, his voice trembling uncontrollably.
Yu Qi looked down at the cowering man through the blank eyes of her rabbit mask.
"How pathetically ironic." Yu Qi sneered, a cold, mocking laugh escaping her lips. "Didn’t you take immense pleasure in intimidating and tormenting those helpless children earlier? Why aren’t you displaying that same arrogant bravado in front of us?"
Hector Vaughn’s face drained of what little colour it had left. The cold reality hit him like a physical blow. He was now trapped in the exact same helpless, terrifying position he had forced onto thousands of innocent victims over the years. Only this time, he was the prey.
Hector Vaughn swallowed hard. He wanted to say something, anything to reassert control, but his throat felt entirely bone-dry.
Yu Qi stared down at him through the stark white rabbit mask, while Long Hui stood silently by her side like an immovable shadow. Neither of them looked rushed. It was almost as though they possessed all the time in the world, content to let the weight of his own terror crush him from within.
"What do you want?" Hector Vaughn finally asked again, his voice rasping.
"Didn’t I already ask you?" Yu Qi replied calmly, her tone terrifyingly unbothered. "What are you doing on this island?"
Hector Vaughn clenched his teeth, his defensive instincts flaring.
"This is my private research facility! Everything we do here is strictly legal!" he shouted, trying to inject authority into his shaking words.
"Legal?" Yu Qi tilted her head slightly.
Her tone remained completely even, a soft cadence that somehow made Hector Vaughn feel far more uncomfortable than if she had screamed.
"You kidnapped innocent people." Yu Qi began, ticking off the points.
Hector Vaughn remained dead silent.
"You performed unspeakable human experiments on them." Yu Qi continued smoothly.
Hector Vaughn’s expression twitched, a micro-flinch betraying his guilt.
"You bought children from impoverished remote areas and orphanages to use as disposable lab subjects." Yu Qi stated coldly. Then, her voice dropped a fraction of an octave. "And you conducted live research on cultivators."
The instant those final words left her mouth, Hector Vaughn’s entire body froze. His jaw locked, and for several agonising seconds, he lost the ability to speak altogether.
Yu Qi picked up on his involuntary reaction instantly. Beside her, Long Hui’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits behind his black panther mask.
"Looks like we struck the exact right nerve." Yu Qi observed.
"I... I don’t know what you are talking about." Hector Vaughn stuttered, immediately offering a hollow denial.
"Oh?" Yu Qi crouched down slightly, bringing her masked face closer to his eye level. "Then why did you react like that the second I mentioned cultivators?"
Hector Vaughn’s expression stiffened into a mask of pure panic. He realized too late that his body language had completely exposed him.
"You..." Hector Vaughn’s breath caught in his throat.
"Who supplied you with information regarding cultivators?" Yu Qi demanded.
Hector Vaughn clamped his mouth shut, choosing silence.
Yu Qi waited patiently, not bothering to rush him. From the extensive files Neko-chan had already scraped from their offline servers, she knew the MicroTech Organisation had been obsessively pursuing immortality and cultivation research for years. The records inside the archive had detailed spiritual meridians, force-infused energy veins, and artificial integration trials.
This island was merely one branch of a much larger, insidious network. There had to be a primary architect behind it all, someone who possessed intimate, deep-rooted knowledge of the cultivation realm.
"Tell us." Long Hui finally spoke up.
His voice was a low, resonant rumble, cold enough to freeze the blood in Hector’s veins.
Hector Vaughn looked up at him. For some reason, the stylized black panther mask made Long Hui appear far more predatory and terrifying than any human adversary he had ever faced.
"I... I don’t know." Hector Vaughn lied, shaking his head frantically.
