Chapter 2796: Chapter 2796: Fly Back
Long Hui remained motionless throughout the journey, holding her securely as the train sped through the countryside.
Upon arriving back in Fanghai Nation, they went straight to the airport where Long Hui’s private jet was prepped on the tarmac. The aircraft took off immediately, carrying them back across the border toward Binhai Nation.
By the time they touched down in Binhai Nation and returned to their penthouse, it was already the following afternoon.
Yu Qi was scheduled for a hospital night shift that evening, giving her a few hours to rest and prepare. Long Hui, meanwhile, had urgent matters requiring his personal attention. After changing into formal attire, he departed the penthouse.
Yu Qi did not ask about his destination. If Long Hui did not volunteer the details, it invariably pertained to high-level military intelligence that was classified. She trusted him completely and felt no need to pry.
She rested for several hours before waking up to get ready for her shift. Long Hui had not yet returned, but Yu Qi remained unbothered, focused entirely on her medical duties.
Arriving at the hospital, the night shift appeared calm and routine. She clocked in and received the shift handover from the attending nurse, who briefed her on the critical patients in her ward, detailing their current vitals, treatment protocols, and medication schedules.
After reviewing the medical charts thoroughly in her office, Yu Qi walked down the corridor to conduct her rounds and personally evaluate the high-risk patients.
Just as she entered one of the primary care rooms, the patient’s vitals suddenly plummeted without warning. The monitoring equipment beeped wildly as the patient’s blood pressure dropped and cardiac rhythm grew dangerously erratic.
Yu Qi’s expression turned razor-sharp. She immediately spearheaded the emergency response, issuing rapid orders to the nursing staff to administer stabilising agents while she manually adjusted the life-support settings and monitored the patient’s response second by second.
The atmosphere inside the room remained intensely tense for nearly an hour. Yu Qi worked methodically, refusing to relax her focus for even a second as she fought to pull the patient back from the brink of organ failure.
Finally, her precise interventions paid off. The erratic monitors settled back into a stable, safe rhythm, and the patient’s breathing normalised.
Yu Qi exhaled a quiet breath of relief and stepped out into the hallway, where the patient’s anxious family members immediately stood up to meet her.
"Doctor, how is he?!" One of them asked, voice trembling.
Yu Qi looked at them reassuringly and calmly explained that the immediate crisis had passed and the patient was now stable.
The family members let out a collective sigh of relief upon hearing the good news, thanking Yu Qi repeatedly for saving their relative. Yu Qi offered a polite nod before heading back toward her office.
Just as she reached her door, a familiar voice called out her name. She turned to find Tang Qin Hao standing a short distance down the corridor, and a genuine smile immediately brightened her face.
"Brother Qin Hao..." Yu Qi greeted him warmly.
"Did you just wrap up with a patient?" Tang Qin Hao asked, stepping closer.
"Hmm... There was a sudden complication earlier, but everything has been stabilized. What about you? What brings you here at this hour?" Yu Qi inquired, tilting her head.
"I came to see you." Tang Qin Hao stated simply.
Yu Qi let out a soft laugh. "Oh? That’s rare. Usually, Brother Qin Hao is far too buried in his own medical research to wander over."
"I have not seen you around for the past two days. Where have you been?" Tang Qin Hao’s eyes narrowed slightly as he observed her.
"I took a short trip to Fanghai Nation to inspect one of my business operations there. Why do you ask?" Yu Qi blinked, adopting an innocent, puzzled expression.
"You went to Fanghai Nation? Just Fanghai Nation?" Tang Qin Hao repeated, his gaze searching her face.
"Hmm." Yu Qi nodded smoothly.
Tang Qin Hao stared at her for a long moment before letting out a helpless, faintly amused sigh.
"I see. I understand." Tang Qin Hao said, a subtle smile touching his lips. "By the way, are you hungry?"
"Well, now that you mention it, I actually am a bit hungry." Yu Qi said while lightly patting her stomach.
"Let’s grab a late-night snack." Tang Qin Hao suggested.
"Sounds great. Let me grab my coat." Yu Qi agreed.
The two walked together toward the hospital cafeteria.
Given the late hour, the hall was nearly deserted. Most of the night-shift medical staff were either locked in their respective departments or attending to rounds, leaving the space quiet with only a few scattered staff members sitting quietly at distant tables.
They stopped in front of a row of vending machines stocked with quick snacks and cold beverages.
Not wanting anything too heavy during her shift and because it was already late in night, Yu Qi selected a simple sandwich and a bottle of iced lemon tea.
Tang Qin Hao barely glanced at the rest of the options. He simply selected the exact same items as Yu Qi.
"Brother Qin Hao, you really don’t have to copy my exact order." Yu Qi teased.
"It saves time." Tang Qin Hao chuckled softly.
After paying, they moved to a quiet table near the window and sat across from each other. They unwrapped their food in comfortable silence.
As he opened his sandwich, Tang Qin Hao casually broke the quiet. "Something unexpected happened during the medical conference."
"What happened?" Yu Qi immediately looked up, putting on an expression of mild surprise.
"I was kidnapped." Tang Qin Hao stated, his tone completely nonchalant.
