Chapter 2798: Chapter 2798: Pretend Nothing Happened

Connecting every micro-detail, Tang Qin Hao knew without a shadow of a doubt. The woman who saved him was Yu Qi, and the formidable shadow beside her was Long Hui. He simply chose to keep her secret safe.

Shaking off her lingering unease, Yu Qi returned to her office. She sat at her desk and rested her eyes, opting to avoid the doctors’ lounge out of fear that a deep sleep might cause her to miss an emergency call. She remained on high alert until her gruelling shift finally drew to a close.

By the time Yu Qi’s shift ended the following morning, she was thoroughly exhausted.

With an afternoon shift scheduled later that day, she had a small window to head home and sleep. Stepping into the penthouse, the rich, savoury aroma of gourmet cooking immediately greeted her.

Yu Qi blinked, following the scent straight into the kitchen. Standing by the stove was a striking sight. Long Hui stood entirely shirtless, a simple dark apron tied around his waist as he casually tended to a simmering pot.

Yu Qi paused in her tracks, taking in the scene. She walked over, pulled out a counter stool, and rested her chin in her hands, quietly admiring the view from behind.

Without even turning around, Long Hui intuitively sensed her presence.

"Give me a few more minutes. Breakfast is almost ready." Long Hui said, gently stirring the soup.

Yu Qi’s eyes narrowed playfully as she took in his bare shoulders and broad back. "Are you actually cooking, Colonel Long, or are you trying to seduce me?"

Long Hui turned his head slightly, a dark smirk playing on his lips. "Both."

Yu Qi was left momentarily speechbound. She had not expected him to own up to it so blatantly.

"So, did it work?" Long Hui turned around completely, leaning his hip against the counter as he faced her.

"Well... I need to inspect the final product first." Yu Qi replied, doing her absolute best to maintain a composed, professional expression.

Long Hui raised a dark eyebrow, taking a slow, deliberate step closer.

"Which final product are we inspecting first? My cooking... or my body?" Long Hui murmured in a low, teasing whisper.

"The cooking!" Yu Qi blurted out, a deep flush instantly spreading across her cheeks.

"If you say so." Long Hui chuckled softly, his eyes gleefully tracing her reddened face. He turned back to the stove, stirring the dish with practised ease. "We will start with breakfast. You will need all your energy to properly inspect the rest later."

"Long Hui!" Yu Qi gasped, her face burning even hotter.

Long Hui’s low, rumbling laughter echoed through the kitchen, entirely pleased with himself. He laughed happily when he saw Yu Qi’s embarrassed expression.

Yu Qi glared at his back. "Brother Hui, you have become completely shameless lately."

"Only around you." Long Hui replied naturally.

Yu Qi was speechless again. She decided not to argue with him anymore. Otherwise, she would probably be the one who lost in the end. She turned her attention toward the dining table. A few dishes had already been prepared and placed there. The aroma made her stomach growl softly.

Long Hui caught the sound immediately. He immediately turned his head and looked at her with an amused glint in his eyes.

"Someone seems to be hungry." Long Hui chuckled.

"I worked the entire night." Yu Qi defended herself. "I did not even have time to grab breakfast this morning because of an emergency. All I had was a simple sandwich late last night."

"I know." Long Hui’s voice softened reassuringly. "That’s why I prepared all of this for you."

"Thank you, Brother Hui." Yu Qi smiled softly.

Long Hui’s expression softened when he heard her gratitude.

"Wait a little longer. There is only one more dish." Long Hui stated.

Yu Qi nodded. She sat at the dining table and waited patiently while watching Long Hui finish cooking. Not long after, he brought the final dish over and placed it on the table.

"Oh, I ran into Brother Qin Hao yesterday." Yu Qi mentioned casually.

"How is he?" Long Hui asked.

"He seems completely back to normal, but..." Yu Qi trailed off, a thoughtful look crossing her face.

"But what?" Long Hui asked.

"I think he realised it was us back in Continent M," Yu Qi stated.

"What makes you think so?" Long Hui asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, we talked yesterday, and he kept asking these subtle, leading questions. I answered as casually as I could, thinking I had successfully avoided his suspicion, but right at the end, he thanked me in this strange, knowing way. I am almost certain he saw through it." Yu Qi stated thoughtfully.

"If he chooses not to press the matter, let’s just pretend nothing happened." Long Hui reasoned.

Yu Qi considered it for a moment before nodding. "Mhm... Let’s do that."

"Alright. Everything is served, so eat up before your stomach starts protesting again." Long Hui said softly.

"Hmm..." Yu Qi immediately picked up her chopsticks.

The two of them began eating together.

Yu Qi took a bite of the food, and her eyes immediately brightened.

"Delicious." Yu Qi praised.

"Really?" Long Hui smiled.

"Hmm." Yu Qi nodded enthusiastically. "It tastes really good."

"Then eat more." Long Hui expertly placed a choice piece of meat into her bowl.

Yu Qi didn’t need to be told twice. After days of non-stop travel, dismantling the Lee Family’s plots, and raiding the MicroTech island, her body genuinely needed the fuel. She quietly savoured her meal while Long Hui periodically kept her bowl filled.

After a while, Yu Qi suddenly remembered something.

"Brother Hui." Yu Qi called.
