Record of a Demon's Cultivation

Chapter 1449: Self-Inflicted Misfortune

Translator: CinderTL

"Ji Yin, how dare you poison me, this King! I will tear you limb from limb and cast your soul into the Ten Thousand Serpents Pit, where it will be devoured by those creatures day and night!" King Jianglin roared, her voice hoarse with fury.

Yet the Bone Blossom Poison had already spread throughout her body, leaving not a single healthy inch of flesh. Her skin and scales had completely sloughed off, revealing rotting, blackened flesh beneath.

This putrid flesh continued to crumble and fall away, leaving her resembling a Corpse Puppet that had suffered catastrophic injuries.

Though her voice still carried a veneer of fury, her heart was filled with terror.

The deadly poison had not only invaded her dantian, but was also devouring her demon core, rendering her unable to channel even a shred of demon essence. Her physical body was also severely damaged, leaving her utterly powerless.

What chilled her to the bone was that the cultivation cave inhabited by that lowly wretch Ji Yin had been personally constructed by her for Qing Lian. Only she herself could shield it from the perception of other eighth-tier demon kings.

In other words, no one from the outside could detect even the slightest commotion within the cave. This meant no one would come to her aid.

Unless...

Song Wen remained silent, but dozens of blood-colored tentacles erupted from his body, surging like a tidal wave towards King Jianglin.

King Jianglin had been struck by a potent poison, leaving her at her most vulnerable. If given time, she might have controlled the toxins or found a way to neutralize them, making her far more dangerous to deal with.

Both her physical body and the demon core within her dantian had suffered severe damage. Despite her desperate resistance, she was ultimately overwhelmed by the tentacles that swarmed in from all directions. One pierced through her chest from behind.

The other tentacles surged forward, coiling around her entire body until only her head remained exposed.

King Jianglin struggled fiercely, but the tentacles tightened their grip, crushing every bone in her body.

"Aaaah—"

A low, agonizing wail escaped her lips, but it was abruptly cut short by maniacal laughter.

"Hahaha! Ji Yin, you don’t dare kill me. If you do, the other eight eighth-tier demon kings of my clan will learn of it instantly and come for you. You won’t survive that!"

Song Wen’s figure flickered as he approached King Jianglin. Gazing at her decaying face, he spoke.

"You’re right. I don’t dare kill you. But no one will come to save you either. The other demon kings of the Willow Serpent Clan are likely struggling to protect themselves."

A tempest of shock and fury surged in King Jianglin’s eyes.

"You mean... you used the same methods against other Demon Kings? Your human race is truly despicable and shameless, resorting to such low-handed tactics!"

"Heh!" Song Wen chuckled lightly. "You brought this upon yourselves. Blame no one else. If you female willow serpents of the Willow Serpent Clan hadn’t been so infatuated with human beauty, and hadn’t taken pleasure in toying with male cultivators, how would you have been so easily poisoned?"

As he spoke, a black jade bottle the size of an egg materialized in Song Wen’s hand.

He dripped the remaining transparent Corrosive Poison Liquid from the bottle onto the crown of King Jianglin’s head.

King Jianglin’s head began to rot at an accelerated rate, and soon her bleached white skull was clearly visible.

The Bone Blossom Poison had not only corroded her head but seemed to have invaded her sea of consciousness as well.

King Jianglin’s eyes rolled back, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

The Blood-colored Tentacle slowly retracted.

King Jianglin’s body, now unsupported, crashed to the ground.

Song Wen glanced at the mangled remains of King Jianglin, her bones shattered and her body reduced to a pulp, then turned and left.

The process of severely wounding King Jianglin had been surprisingly smooth—or rather, the potency of the Bone Blossom Poison had exceeded his expectations.

Song Wen arrived at the stone gate of his cultivation cave, opened it, and stepped outside.

Boom.

The stone gate closed behind him.

He looked up at the night sky.

The sky was pitch-black, devoid of both moon and stars.

Beneath the darkness, the world lay in an eerie silence.

In his hand, he clutched a dark cyan jade talisman.

After stroking it for a moment, he tucked it back into his storage ring.

Clearly, Yuanrong and the others had not yet made their move, so he had no reason to disturb the entire Willow Serpent Clan.

A sesame-seed-sized Gu worm crawled out from beneath his feet and burrowed into a crack in the ground.

Then, Song Wen took to the air, flying leisurely toward the direction of the Human Pavilion.

The Rainbow Water Spirit Field lay in that same direction.

The towering mountains and tranquil lakes retreated below as he flew. Though some Willow Serpents noticed him along the way, none dared to stop him. He reached the entrance of the Human Pavilion without incident.

The pavilion was closed for the night, its entrance unguarded. However, a barrier of sealing power prevented Song Wen from entering.

He made no attempt to force his way in, instead standing quietly outside and waiting.

After the time it takes to brew half a cup of tea,

A female Willow Serpent soaring through the air noticed Song Wen.

Her eyes flickered as she descended, landing beside Song Wen.

"Human, don’t you know the Human Pavilion is closed at night?" the female willow serpent asked, her gaze burning as she studied him. She pressed closer, until she was less than half a foot away.

Sensing the powerful aura radiating from the serpent before him, Song Wen’s heart tightened. The Willow Serpent Clan had only thirteen eighth-tier demon kings. In all his time with the clan, he’d only encountered two: King Yinliu and King Jianglin. Yet here he was, unexpectedly meeting a third.

"I am Ji Yin, at your service, Master. May I ask your esteemed title?" Song Wen deflected, avoiding her question.

"This king is Lu Yao," the female willow serpent replied. "You still haven’t answered why you’re here at midnight..."

At that moment, a colossal azure light sword erupted from the distant, hazy mountains, soaring skyward toward the Nine Heavens.

"What is that?" King Lu Yao seemed surprised, but showed no fear or anger.

Before she could finish speaking, over a dozen ferocious auras exploded across the Willow Serpent Clan. These energies were utterly destructive, shattering peaks, inverting lakes, and shaking the very earth.

In an instant, thousands of Willow Serpents met their untimely end.

"What is this...?"

King Lu Yao’s eyes snapped open, a mix of shock and fury burning in them.

"Those bastards from the Five Great Demon Clans! How dare they attack the Willow Serpents? They’re asking for death!"

Forgetting Song Wen for the moment, King Lu Yao shot into the sky.

She recognized all the initial ten-odd auras—they belonged to the Demon Kings of the Five Great Demon Clans under the Willow Serpent Clan’s command.

Suddenly, hundreds more formidable auras erupted across various locations.

These also came from the Five Great Demon Clans, though their power was noticeably weaker than the initial group. Still, the weakest among them were at least sixth-tier.

Two eighth-tier demonic beasts from the Five Great Demon Clans immediately surrounded King Lu Yao, their killing intent radiating without restraint.

The other demon beasts from the Five Great Demon Clans continued their slaughter.

King Lu Yao quickly engaged the two eighth-tier beasts in close combat, but she was clearly outmatched. Within moments, she was forced into a desperate situation, teetering on the brink of disaster.

"Five Great Demon Clans! Show yourselves immediately and save the Willow Serpent Clan! King Jianglin! King Yinliu! Where are you?"

King Lu Yao’s cry of desperation was answered by nine eighth-tier Willow Serpents charging out from various directions. However, the two most powerful Demon Kings—King Jianglin and King Yinliu—remained conspicuously absent.
