Red Monster

Red jumped off the tree and found a swarm of kobolds rushing out from the village. The two Elite Kobold Fighters were joining the group too. He realized what they were doing earlier.

The two Elite Kobold Fighters were waiting for more kobolds before coming for him. That showed they were wary of him. It was a surprise that the kobold would be that cautious. Especially for the Elite Kobold Fighter.

There were thirteen Elite Kobold Fighters this time, seven more of them. He believed there were around eighty to nine kobolds, or possibly a hundred of them.

He didn’t immediately run, waiting for them a little bit before turning around and running. He quickly noticed the difference in their movement compared to the previous pursuit.

This time, the Elite Kobold Fighters didn’t leave behind the weaker kobolds. They ran together, and that gave him breathing room. He kept his pace well, maintaining the distance.

On top of being more organized, the Elite Kobold Fighters were calmer. The previous six Elite Kobold Fighters were in hot pursuit and blinded by their rage.

He didn’t know, but everything about them was weird. They were too calm, too organized even after he destroyed one of the towers.

’Maybe I should destroy their wall inste—’

Red was distracted by his thoughts until he saw two kobolds in black cloaks land in front of him, and two more cloaked kobolds on his side each. His eyes widened in shock for a moment before Levelheaded was triggered.

He calmed down and quickly activated Burst Leap. A chunk of root was destroyed by his feet as his figure flew over the two cloaked kobolds in front of him.

It was a good reaction for him, but the cloaked kobold also reacted to his Burst Leap. The two kobolds below him threw their dagger at him. One landed on his left thigh, and the second one landed on his left forearm.

Despite having a dagger on his left thigh, he still managed to land with both his feet. He pulled the dagger from his arm and thigh before picking up his face.

Red didn’t bother to maintain the distance anymore, picking up his full speed. He realized they were not going to lose him even though he picked up his pace. Those cloaked kobolds were quick to catch up to him.

He glanced back, and sure enough, the Elite Kobold Fighters were picking up their pace. The concern was that he didn’t see the cloaked kobolds.

’Where are they?’

He looked up at the tree. He couldn’t see anything because of the thick canopy. It was possible the cloaked kobolds were up in the tree. Their build was smaller than that of a normal kobold, and they were certainly more agile as well.

Fortunately, the cloaked kobolds were not able to catch him, as there was no more ambush. At the same time, they had arrived at the ambush spot.

"NOW!"

Red screamed even before the Elite Kobold Fighters reached the ambush spot. He instructed them to ambush the kobolds earlier because of the cloaked kobolds. If the cloaked kobolds were truly on the tree, they would find the ambush soon.

The hobgoblins and goblins swarmed from both sides. The hobgoblins were focused on pinching the Elite Kobold Fighters, and the goblins attacked the kobolds behind the elite.

That was when the Chief and the three Goblin Champions made their appearance. The Chief made a dramatic entrance, landing in front of the Elite Kobold Fighter.

The Elite Kobold Fighters were distracted by the ambush, and they were not prepared for the Goblin Champion. The Chief’s axe sank into the Elite Kobold Fighter’s shoulder, then his sword pierced the throat. He twisted the sword, messing with the neck before kicking the kobold away.

The Elite Kobold Fighter was not dead from that. It was clutching its neck, gurgling dark blood. It was writhing in pain on the ground.

Meanwhile, the three Goblin Champions were picking one target. Cynical smashed his axe toward the thigh, sending the kobold tumbling on its knee. Then it was followed by an observer, a swing of an axe to the back. Lastly, the reasonable finished it with a single swing to the back of its neck, finishing it off as the head rolled on the ground.

Two Elite Kobold Fighters died instantly, which quickly raised the morale within the goblins and the hobgoblins. They went into a frenzy.

Red just watched it for a moment as he quickly made his move as well. He used Burst Leap, leaping far ahead, next to the tree before his figure disappeared.

He left the ambush to the Chief and the others. He also had his own battle: the cloaked kobolds. It was better to finish them off instead of letting them go back to the village. There would be no third ambush if the village received the information about them.

He was up in the tree after disappearing behind it. It was to shake off the cloaked kobolds, and he climbed high up there, almost at the top end of the tree where he could feel the warm sun.

It didn’t take long for him to find his targets. As he predicted, the cloaked kobolds were up on the tree. They were smaller than a normal kobold, making them more agile and faster. He found two of them, looking for him.

He used Appraisal first, curious about what these kobolds were.

He was not surprised these two cloaked kobolds were higher in level than him. Or else they would not be able to catch up to him, even though he was matching his pursuer’s pace. It was a surprise, but also good news, meaning he could loot them.

Red pulled the bow from his back with his left hand. His arm and thigh were still throbbing from the dagger throw. He was relieved the dagger was not that deep. It hurt, but it was doable. He could endure such measly pain.

"Hunting time!" He muttered as he shot two arrows consecutively.

The cloaked kobold didn’t have the same metal armor as the Elite Kobold Fighter. He didn’t need to coat his arrows with his mana. Two arrows were shot within three seconds, and all of them were headshots.

The two bodies fell to the ground with a thud. But the sound was covered by the noise of the battle on the other side. Red moved, looking for Kobold Scout. There were at least two more, and there might be even more.
