As Evangeline continued to stare at the ceiling blankly, something wiggled under the blanket.

Moments later, the girl with black hair and turquoise eyes emerged from within, rubbing her eyes. Evangeline turned her gaze to the girl and blinked a few more times.

The girl sighed.

"I know what you want to say. You are a sailor from the kingdom who somehow ended up in this room, correct? Don’t ask how I know all this because explaining that will be a bit complicated. For now, we need to—"

"How are... you fine? You were dying just now." Evangeline muttered absentmindedly, cutting the girl off. "And wasn’t that window broken? How did it go back to normal?"

Initially, Evangeline had assumed she had been teleported to a room in the castle where the girl had been sleeping. It was strange that a person lived in a kingdom devoid of people, but she thought maybe there was some explanation for this.

But after seeing the crowd gathered outside the castle, things turned strange. It was clear that the scenery of the city she had seen from the castle was different from the one she had witnessed after arriving on the island.

Moreover, the city that had been completely empty not long ago was now filled with a crowd of people. Of course, it was possible that a ship filled with people had arrived on the island right after she and her teammates had set foot here, but that was extremely unlikely.

The only explanation was that she had somehow gone back in time to a point where people had still lived in the island kingdom. Sure, it sounded stupid and absurd, but she couldn’t think of anything else.

But now she was lying on the same bed, staring at the same ceiling. The girl who had been moments away from dying just a few minutes ago was on the bed, looking completely fine.

It was as though Evangeline had suddenly gone back to the point where she had first opened her eyes to this room.

’But how the hell?!’

As Evangeline was lost in thought, the girl’s eyes suddenly widened. She grabbed Evangeline’s shoulder and pulled her up.

"You..." The girl’s grip on her shoulder tightened. "How do you... Don’t tell me... Do you retain your memories of the previous loop?"

Evangeline blinked.

’Previous loop?’

"What do you mean by previous loop?"

The girl hesitated with a troubled look on her face.

Though, truthfully, she didn’t really need to answer since Evangeline already had an inkling. She hadn’t focused on the girl’s words at first after the scenery suddenly changed. But now that she recalled, the girl remembered the things she had told her at the beginning.

And based on how the girl reacted in shock after learning that she also remembered those things, combined with the word ’previous loop,’ a vague picture was already being painted in Evangeline’s mind.

Taking a deep breath, she shook her head to clear away the confusing and complicated thoughts swirling in her mind. And then, she forcefully stretched her lips into a smile.

"Hey, let’s properly start from the beginning." She placed her hand on her chest. "My name is Evangeline Florivelle, but you can simply call me Evangeline. So? Who are you?"

For a few moments, the girl simply stared at her in confusion, as if not understanding what she was trying to do. But moments later, she nodded.

"My name is Lilias El Gracias. I am the fourth rightful ruler of the Gracias Kingdom."

’Rightful ruler? Isn’t she... a bit too young for that?’

The girl looked the same age as Evangeline.

But again, that was not what was currently important right now.

"So, Lilias, could you now explain what is going on? The situation isn’t making sense, and you seem to know something."

The girl nodded hesitantly.

"I don’t quite understand either. All I know is that a single day is repeating constantly. It starts from the moment the sun rises and ends when the sun disappears beyond the horizon. I am the only one who keeps the memories of these loops. At least, that had been the case until now, but it seems that you can remember the previous day as well."

She pressed a hand to her temples.

"I actually don’t quite understand how you got here. Because since a single day is repeating, it would mean that you had always been in the kingdom on this day. If so, then how are you in my bedroom even in the new loop? Why weren’t you here in the past loops? It’s clear that you don’t hold any animosity against me, but there is no way I can trust you when there are so many strange things about you."

"..."

A picture slowly formed in Evangeline’s mind. It seemed that she had indeed somehow traveled back to the past. But the day she had traveled back to was repeating on a loop. This was the only possible explanation.

Of course, there was also the question of how she had traveled back in time and why, but there were more important matters to think about.

’I can’t tell her that I am from the future.’

Things were complicated already. If she mentioned this detail, then she couldn’t predict how Lilias would react.

For now, she needed to understand the situation better.

Memories began to surface in her mind. Memories of the incident in the slums six years ago. As well as the memories of the attack by the assassin.

Both of those times, problems had grown bigger because Evangeline had been indecisive when it really mattered.

She couldn’t afford to repeat that again.

Although it was too sudden, she knew that she needed to be better in this situation.

...especially after what she saw in the previous loop.

But her thoughts were suddenly cut short as a loud noise rang.

BANG!

The window on her right exploded, and its splinters scattered in all directions. The next moment, the entire castle shook violently.

The girl gritted her teeth. Grabbing Evangeline’s wrist, she ran out of the room while pulling her along. Just as they left the room, there was another loud noise, and she saw debris flying out through the room’s door.

They started running through the large hallways of the castle. The castle shook more violently with every passing moment.

All the sequences of events felt extremely similar to what she had already experienced.

The direction the girl was running was also the same as before.

Suddenly, she stopped in front of a room at the end of the turn.

The room was the same as the previous time too.

Opening the door, Lilias entered and grabbed the same handcuffs she had used the previous time.

Evangeline forcefully pulled her hand away from the girl’s grip and asked in a frustrated tone.

"Why are you trying to lock me up again? I am clearly not your enemy!"

She could somewhat understand why Lilias had done that in the previous loop. Back then, both of them had been rather confused.

But things were different now that they had talked it out.

’So why?’

Lilias lowered her eyes.

"I can’t trust you. There are simply too many strange things about you that don’t make sense. Moreover, since you can remember the previous loops, you can become a great threat to me. There is no way I am going to take my chances."

Evangeline clenched her fists behind her back.

’This is a problem.’
