As Verdell came to terms with the loss of his beard- or at the very least part of it, the two of them soon enough set off together towards the north. Having them go over the primeval forest behind them that looked like it had never seen any visitors beyond the wildlife and monsters that called it home.

The direction came about thanks to Verdell, who took out some kind of special thing called a magical compass, a unique magical treasure generally kept by the wealthier adventurers, something Verdell himself had been as an A Rank Adventurer close to reaching the S Rank.

Verdell’s status as a well-off adventurer aside, the abilities of the magical compass beyond telling them whether they were moving north or south was its unique ability to lock onto different unique magical nodes kept inside different important adventurer guild branches. Of which the Temple Guard City Guild Branch was one such branch and one Verdell had already bound his magical compass to.

Of course, there was a limited number of these magical nodes that could be bound to a magical compass, so one would generally have to undo previous bindings after reaching a new place. The limit of these bindings being related to the quality of the magical compass itself, with the lowest quality ones kept by B Rank Adventurers and some poorer A Rank Adventurers being capable of binding to four magical nodes, while the slightly higher quality one Verdell had could bind to six magical nodes.

All that information, that she didn’t really care much about, but ended up forced to listen to thanks to a rather talkative dwarf with nothing better to do on her back- Ehm, the important part was... Temple Guard City, the place that was about to swarm with powerful adventurers and necromancers, was in the south, the opposite direction they were now moving in. Ensuring they wouldn’t end up getting caught up in whatever chaos was about to unfold back there.

But outside of just getting the two of them out of danger, the other reason they were heading towards the north instead of the east and west, was because one of the other magical nodes Verdell’s magical compass was bound to was in the north... And according to him, the branch of the Adventurers Guild in question was in a place filled to the brim with strong monsters.

The only detriment Verdell mentioned about the place they were heading towards, was the fact that it was a place covered in snow year-round. Making it one of the less explored regions of the world and at the same time also a rather rare region that had no real kingdom within it and only really had a few branches established by the guild that was interested in further developing the region to obtain the countless rare resources that could be found throughout the snow-covered region.

Of course, this development from the guild was still in its initial stages and this was one of the main reasons why the place was still filled to the brim with powerful monsters, as the guild simply hadn’t had the time to dedicate enough adventurers to help in developing the region.

Then again, it wasn’t exactly an attractive place to go in the first place without the Adventurers Guild putting up a significant price to entice adventurers into braving the desolate wasteland, something they had, according to Verdell, already done in the past when establishing the few existing guild branches in the region.

Apparently, it was also because of the great cost establishing these branches required that the guild was scared off from continuing rapid development in the snowy region.

As for competitors who might try and compete with the guild for the resources in the snowy region... Sorry, but if even the Adventurers Guild spanning the entire world had a difficult time establishing itself in the region, there wasn’t anyone else who could join in on the competition for resources within the icy region.

Well... Almost no one, as unsurprisingly, the Holy Light Church had also ended up establishing a diocese encompassing the snow-covered region. Meaning some unlucky bishop from the Holy Light Church had to go to the snow-covered region that only had a single small-scale city under the Holy Light Church.

Or that was at least how it had been at first when the Holy Light Church had first moved into the region, but after some kind of agreement had been reached between the Holy Light Church and the guild, the cathedral under the bishop from the Holy Light Church mysteriously moved to the far large central city in the region under the control of the Adventurers Guild. Leaving the original city of the Holy light Church mainly as a sort of special training ground for one of the more specialized legions under the Holy Light Church.

How interesting~ How amazing~

That was all Scaly could think as she continued flying above the primeval forest that had no monster beyond a few weaklings that wouldn’t provide her with any meaningful progress. Finding herself unable to distract herself and being forced to listen as Verdell continued sharing what he knew about the snow-covered region they were flying towards.

Not just the Holy Light Church and the Adventurers Guild, she soon enough also learnt that the reason why Verdell had been to the region in the past was because one of his father’s friends owned the main blacksmith within the main city of the region. Having gone there for his B Rank promotion in the past as he needed a specific magical artifact that required a skilled blacksmith’s assistance.

Although he could have found another blacksmith for help, back then he wasn’t exactly wealthy as a C Rank Adventurer and finding his dad’s old friend to mooch off some benefits was the best thing he could think of that didn’t involve him spending the next five years saving up to hire another blacksmith for help in crafting the artifact needed to move on to the next step of his B Rank class advancement quest.

Because of this, though he had spent some time in the region in the past and knew the general layout of the place, he still wasn’t that knowledgeable about the overall state of the region beyond those few cities and outposts that had been established in the region. Having left almost immediately after he obtained the magical artifact he needed for his B Rank class advancement back then.

As for why he had ended up binding his magical compass that he had obtained through his father’s old friend along with the magical artifact he needed for his B Rank class advancement quest? That had to do with the simple fact that navigating the icy wasteland was a nightmare.

Constant blizzards, unexpected deadly monsters emerging from the snow and much more.

If not for the fact he had been travelling with a group of experienced seniors back then led by an S Rank Adventurer, there would have been no way for him to have made it to the city where his father’s old friend was staying.

Knowing he would likely need the assistance of this skilled blacksmith again in the future, he had wisely chosen to bind the magic compass to the magical node of the city. Allowing him to have a far easier time finding the city that was within the snowy region.

Interesting~ Interesting indeed~ Can’t wait to visit the snow region~

Feeling doing a barrel roll midair to quite the chatting dwarf down, Scaly felt like crying as she wished some monster would jump out of the forest below and attack them. Anything to stop the dwarf with nothing better to do than continue talking.

Any mention of the powerful monsters that he had encountered in the region in the past only made her more irritated staring down at the calm forest below her. Making her increasingly annoyed over the fact that such a pristine untouched forest had no powerful monsters lurking within it, with the strongest monster she had spotted so far being some odd rabbit with a horn on its head.

[Horned Rabbit, lvl 32]

[Description: Evolved from a normal rabbit, the horned rabbit has grown twice as large and far faster than the normal rabbit, with a sharp horn, it now possesses the piercing strike ability. Allowing it to charge forward with great speed before piercing its enemies with its sharp spear. Not the most powerful monster out there, but definitely a strong rabbit. Known for its tender meat among adventurers.]

Stronger than any monster she had spotted in the forest so far...

[Gained 564 Exp]

But the experience it provided when she unleashed a single water blade to finish it off was rather pitiful. The only positive being the fact that it was indeed a delicious monster like the description had suggested. Giving her at least something to look forward to while flying through the primeval forest with a chatty dwarf on her back.
