"Kalli, we have a small problem!!" One of the runners shouted as he entered the room.
"What’s that?"
"A bunch of the guys just finished their morning workout in the new training rooms, and they’ve reached level one. Now, they’ve run off to the battlefield to join the other heroes."
Kalli sighed. "Tell the other runners to send them back here to get their basic gear, and not to mooch off the heroes. Most of them are going to need their backup gear before the end of the day."
Getting new heroes was a good thing, even if a bunch of level one heroes were not going to be a huge amount of help this morning, when the majority of monsters would shrug off their skills.
However, they would get a boost to their mana regeneration and strength as they reached level one, so they could start taking turns on the guns if it became necessary, or they could keep working as runners, but with higher efficiency.
Changing roles in the middle of the battle was a bit of unnecessary chaos, in Kalli’s opinion.
But these heroes hadn’t been doing either task this morning, as they were backups, and had gone to the gym to complete a workout quest instead of worrying about survival.
The monsters were charging faster as they decided that their only hope was getting in close to the city, where they assumed that they would be able to tear through weak and soft humans, instead of dealing with these weapons of fire and light.
The Giants were not particularly stupid, but they had zero frame of reference for energy weapons, so the most logical assumption was that these humans had powerful long ranged magic.
But it made huge explosions, so they wouldn’t dare to use it near their own people.
[ You know; if this system came with nukes or a nice antimatter cluster bomb, I would be incredibly grateful... ] Kalli thought as she desperately tried to think of a better way to deal with this battle than massed firepower from the walls.
{Planetary Destruction Weapons are not available during the Trials}
Kalli chuckled at the System’s message, and began to pour herself a fresh bubble tea.
Well, that was something. At least the System was watching over them, even if it was not quite the sort of battle that she would have hoped for. Even some fighter jets would be nice.
There were attack helicopters, but they didn’t have bombs, and the rockets were less powerful than the Air Defence Battery guns. Being able to simply bomb the enemy to clear the battlefield was a dream for her.
Though, with a few more lucky pulls from the Epic boxes, they might get something that could do the job.
Sanchez had received an incredibly expensive heavy armoured personnel carrier. That was actually more expensive than the basic attack helicopters in the Common Grade section, though not by much.
The problem was that those burned a huge amount of jet fuel, and they couldn’t replace it easily.
The Arks still had some limited amounts of fuel for them, but they were secure, and still able to use the main guns of the ships against the enemy while they were stationary on the ground.
If things got desperate, Kalli would ask them to have one ship lift off to clear the area.
They should be fully recovered, at least in terms of their power supply. The physical damage to the vessels was still there, but minimal, as they had retreated in time when the larger sea monsters attacked.
Perhaps it would be less stressful if she took a trip as a runner herself? She could let people complete quests too.
Kalli quickly purchased a cargo box that could be mounted into the back of the assault speeder, the ATV shaped hover bike gun platform. Then, she loaded it with snacks, as the runners were bringing properly nutritious meals to the lines.
The first place that she went was up to the rooftops, as all those gunners would have multiple quest completions ready to turn in.
"Coordinator, I see that you found a new toy. Very fancy," Ivan greeted her.
He idly spun a dagger in his hand as he waited for his turn at the gun and recovered mana.
"I’m here to hand out mystery boxes in exchange for quests. And candy, I have candy."
"I’m fairly sure that’s supposed to be someone else’s line," the tall blonde Rogue joked, his voice holding the weariness of a man who had been fighting for nearly nine hours at this point.
"Good point. I’ll have to delegate the candy van duties for next time. Grab a snack and get your quests. I need to hit everyone around the loop before the Giants make it to us. They might get something that makes a real difference from these Epic Grade boxes."
To her surprise, it gave everyone an Epic Grade box for completing the core quest, even though the time wasn’t over.
That had to be for the wave that was declared defeated.
{Bonus Quest issued} Survive the assault. Epic Difficulty.
{Survive the assault by the residents of the region. Elimination of 80 percent of the enemy force or clearance of a 50-kilometre radius around the base will result in a victory.}
"Damn, with all these kills, I’m almost to the good stuff in my skill tree now. I should have focused in going vertically, instead of spreading skills for versatility," Ivan sighed.
"Well, live and learn. But every other day, those basic skills are extremely helpful."
Then, Kalli took off to reward the other buildings before heading for the front lines, starting with Esmeralda’s army of undead, and the Special Forces team. They were standing at the front gates, next to Sanchez’s APC, so they were a pretty easy waypoint to remember.
"Everyone come for the completion. Even if you don’t think you have a thousand kills, you have an Epic box coming for the wave completion. Grab and move, I need to get to everyone." she shouted as she passed close overhead.
No need to chat or touch everyone, just fly slowly a few metres off the ground, and everyone would shift to get their rewards.
