Reincarnated Femboy Vampire, with Max Survivability Stats
Chapter 79: Mission FailedThe battle with the White Fang raged on for several minutes. Despite struggling against the giant wolf’s immense strength, the elite knights held the upper hand in numbers.
They refused to give the beast any room to retreat. No matter how wildly it leaped around them, they coordinated their strikes to force it right back into a brutal melee.
SLAM!
Another heavy strike landed square against the White Fang’s thick hide, wringing a grunt of pain from the monster. Despite its savage power, its movements were growing noticeably sluggish, whereas the knights showed no signs of fatigue at all.
The White Fang lowered its massive frame into a striking posture, preparing to pounce onto the squad. But at the very last second, it froze—staring blankly into the distant fog. It let out a terrified, whimpering whine, dropped its paws, and frantically began burrowing into the snow.
Confused by the monster’s sudden, bizarre behavior, the knights didn’t waste a single second. They surged forward, intent on finishing it off right then and there.
The two men moved in for the kill, swinging their massive frost-steel great swords down on the beast—only for their heavy blades to strike an invisible layer and rebound with a deafening CLANG!
"What the—?!"
21 gripped his hilt tighter, brought his sword high, and brought it down in another vicious overhead strike against the wolf’s spine—only for the exact same thing to happen. The impact rattled up his arms.
"The bastard froze itself into solid ice!" Commander 09 sneered, clicking his tongue in frustration. "Tch! Forget it, we’re leaving," he ordered, sheathing his weapon into the scabbard on his back.
"Really, sir?" 21 asked, turning to watch his commander step back.
"Yes. There’s nothing more we can do without 22’s support, and she’s still completely out of commission."
"R-Right. Understood, sir."
Commander 09 turned toward the rear line. "23! How is she?!"
"Not good, sir," 23 replied, shaking his head grimly. "I managed to stabilize her condition, but I haven’t been able to locate the root of the problem. It’s not a physical injury."
"So it’s some sort of mental attack?"
"Yes, sir."
"What kind of creature would be able to infect her mind so easily without any of us falling victim as well?" 21 asked, his tone laced with concern.
"No clue," 23 answered, letting out a shaky breath. "This sector isn’t documented to have any monsters with high-tier mental abilities. So it’s either an undocumented entity, or something is casting this from extremely far away—"
"—Or far outside our detection range," the Commander finished his sentence.
"What are your orders, sir?" 23 asked, gently hoisting the unconscious 22 into a princess carry.
"The mission is a failure. We return to base and reassess from there."
"Do you think the Citadel is going to dispatch one of the Primarchs?" 21 asked as the group fell into step.
"Most likely. Once we relay this incident to command, they’ll act upon it immediately."
"I see..."
"Let’s get moving," Commander 09 instructed. "21 on point. 23, hold the middle. I’ll cover the rear flank."
"Sir!" they replied, nodding in unison before taking their assigned positions and marching off into the whiteout.
Meanwhile, several kilometers away, Yuki was struggling just to keep his eyes open. He was rapidly reaching his absolute limit, on the very verge of passing out into the snow.
"Administrator..." he gasped out. "Administrat—"
[Yes?] a voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"I need food... or blood... please," Yuki begged, dropping heavily to his knees.
[Why don’t you just— Wait, where the hell are we?] the voice asked, sounding genuinely confused as it scanned his surroundings.
"In the middle of nowhere," Yuki croaked.
[...]
[Why on earth are you in this region?]
"I spawned way further out in the wasteland than I was supposed to!" Yuki cried out, shivering violently.
[...That definitely wasn’t supposed to happen.]
"Just take me to the capital, please!"
[...I can’t do that. I don’t have the administrative authority to teleport you. Is there anything else you need?]
"Can I at least have some food, please?"
[Uh... yeah. One sec.]
The voice vanished for a few moments, leaving Yuki alone in the biting cold.
When the Administrator returned, a full meal materialized on the snow in front of Yuki: a piping-hot roasted steak paired with a generous mix of seasoned vegetables and fruits, accompanied by a small vial of essence drink that smelled suspiciously like battery acid.
Yuki took his time savoring every single bite of the food, refusing to rush. He even choked down the essence drink without complaining, even though it tasted like literal poison.
[Hey... um, sorry that you got spawned out here,] the Administrator’s voice said, sounding slightly awkward.
"It’s fine," Yuki offered a weak, tired smile. "I’m just glad you answered me."
[...Huuu. Word of advice, kid: do NOT attempt any of the system missions you get assigned in this region. It might look like an empty wasteland where you’re safe, but this place is actually the native home of the most dangerous creatures in this realm. And unfortunately for you, the route you’re currently taking to the Winterfell Citadel leads straight through an area called the Silent Mountains.]
"What’s wrong with the mountains?" Yuki asked, wiping his mouth.
[It’s where elite knights go to die. You’re nowhere near the power level required to fight anything in that zone.]
"Oh..."
[Head south. You’ll intercept a squad of elite knights heading back to their forward camp. Meet up with them, and try your best to survive.]
"I am an ex—"
[Expert in survival, I know,] the Administrator interrupted, its tone softening slightly. [Survival is everything in this place. You’re mentally tough, so seeing strangers die won’t break you—but you’re going to see a lot of death out here. Good luck.]
"Thanks," Yuki murmured, feeling a knot of worry tighten in his chest.
The voice faded away, and Yuki knew the Administrator wouldn’t be returning anytime soon.
He slowly pushed himself up from the snow, feeling his energy and essence rapidly returning thanks to the food. He took a single step forward—and suddenly, his entire body erupted in a vibrant, pulsing blue light.
DING!
[Initial Parameters Met!]
[You are now an officially recognized Inquisitor for the Nation of Snow!]
Yuki watched in awe as his battered clothes dissolved and were replaced by an official set of gear: a thick, plush fur-lined coat, a pair of incredibly comfortable high-top winter boots, and armored gloves that felt warm and surprisingly flexible. Even the remaining layers of his personal clothing underneath were completely repaired, looking brand new.
Oh, nice! Yuki thought, doing a quick spin to check out his new look.
Suddenly, his right forearm began to glow with the same bright blue light. Yuki pulled back his sleeve to reveal a striking, luminescent blue-and-silver emblem freshly engraved into his skin like a magical tattoo.
DING!
[That is the Official Crest of the Inquisitors. Present it to assert your rank and authority among allied forces.]
"Huh. Neat," Yuki said, watching the bright glow settle down to reveal a stylized seven-pointed silver star encircled by a ring of glowing icy blue.
"Well... enough standing around. Time to get moving!" Yuki grinned, kicking off into a full sprint toward the south.
