Reincarnated Femboy Vampire, with Max Survivability Stats
Chapter 92: A Broken Man’s AcceptanceThe heavy oak door of their room swung open with a harsh, echoing slam.
Yuki didn’t flinch. He couldn’t.
He lay flat on his back, staring numbly at the wood-grain patterns of the ceiling, his breathing shallow and slow. His hands lay limply atop the heavy cotton sheets like two dead weights, completely unresponsive to the firing signals in his brain. Below his waist, there was only a void of cold, prickling numbness—the lingering physical price Varisa had carved into his body for daring to force a god’s hand and making her clean up his mess.
It had only just dawned on him that the goddess had also been forced to clean up and restore his pocket dimension, given that he had coated the entire space in radioactive isotopes and melted nearly everything inside to forge the bomb.
Rapid, frantic footsteps rushed across the wooden floor, coming to a sudden, stuttering halt right beside the bed.
"Yuki...?"
Vee’s voice was barely a whisper—thin and trembling, completely stripped of her usual confident sharpness. Her rabbit ears flopped low against her head.
Slowly—agonizingly—Yuki rolled his neck to the side. The simple movement sent a dull, throbbing spike of agony through the base of his skull, but he forced his milky, half-blind gaze toward her. His eyes and body had yet to fully recover, struggling to heal even with his powerful regeneration.
Vee stood over him, her hair disheveled and her combat tunic torn at the cuffs from their abrupt evacuation to the Capital’s safe zones.
Right behind her, Kasumi hovered in the doorway, her knuckles white as she gripped the doorframe, her scarlet eyes wide with a mixture of terror and overwhelming relief.
For a long, suffocating moment, no one spoke.
The last time Vee and Kasumi had seen him, Yuki had pulled them into a desperate, weeping embrace inside his pocket dimension, kissing them goodbye before they were teleported away without warning. They had been tossed into the safe zone, forced to watch from miles away as a column of blinding, god-cleaving atomic fire rose into the heavens, consuming the Citadel, the horde, and everything in between—erasing the entire wasteland from existence.
"You’re alive..." Kasumi choked out, her voice breaking on the second word. She crossed the room in three quick strides, dropping to her knees by the side of the bed. She reached out to grab his hand, but the instant her fingers touched his skin, her breath hitched.
His hand was freezing. Cold, limp, and completely unresponsive to her touch.
"Yuki," Vee said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, unstable tremble as she leaned over the frame. "Look at me. What did you do out there? What was that... that sun you dropped on the mountains?"
"A spell..." Yuki rasped. His throat felt like it was lined with shattered glass, his vocal cords barely functioning. "An old archmage... set it up..."
The lie felt hollow on his tongue, spoken purely because Varisa’s rewrite forced the world to believe it. But Vee knew him better than that.
"Don’t give me that bullshit!" Vee snapped, tears finally spilling over her lower lashes and tracing hot tracks down her soot-stained cheeks. She slammed both hands onto the edge of the mattress, the bed shaking under the impact. "An archmage?! We felt the shift in reality, Yuki! You pulled us in like it was the end, you wept like you were going to die, and then you turned the entire regional horde into ash! Look at you! You don’t go out and make friends! We’ve been with you from the very start—don’t you think we’d remember an archmage?!"
She reached down, grabbing his wrist and lifting his forearm an inch off the bed before letting go.
Yuki’s arm collapsed straight back onto the mattress like a puppet with severed strings. It didn’t twitch. It didn’t react.
Kasumi covered her mouth, a stifled sob escaping her throat as she stared at his deadened limbs. "Yuki... your hands... your legs..."
"I can’t move them," Yuki whispered, staring blankly back at the ceiling. "Three weeks. High Command... took the payment."
He paused, a flicker of dark resentment seeping into his tone. "It’s not really fair. I won the bet."
"A bet?!" Vee shouted, her chest heaving as anger and profound grief warred behind her eyes. "You made a bet with gods?! Are you crazy?! You’re lucky they didn’t erase you from reality or turn you into their plaything!"
She wanted to scream at him. She wanted to shake him by the shoulders and demand to know why he always treated his own life like an expendable asset on a ledger. But looking down at his hollow, empty eyes, the total absence of the bright, sarcastic spark that usually defined him, the anger drained out of her, leaving only a cold, sickening ache.
"Iron is dead, isn’t he?" Kasumi asked quietly, resting her forehead against the edge of his bed. "And... and Nyquella?"
Yuki closed his eyes. The darkness behind his eyelids brought no relief; it only brought back the vision of the two frozen corpses resting in the snow among the shattered ruins of the Citadel.
"They’re gone," Yuki said softly. "The Citadel fell. I... I buried what was left. But it doesn’t matter anymore. Whatever was left of them is gone, burned away by what I did."
Silence descended upon the bedroom once more, heavy and suffocating.
Vee slowly lowered herself into the wooden armchair beside the bed—the very seat Varisa had vacated minutes prior. She reached out, carefully wrapping both of her hands around Yuki’s limp, paralyzed right hand, squeezing it tight despite the lack of response from his nerves.
"You’re an idiot, Yuki," Vee murmured, resting her cheek against his knuckles. "A self-destructive, insane idiot."
"I know," Yuki rasped.
"If you ever do something like that again..." She tightened her grip, her body trembling slightly. "If you ever kiss us goodbye and throw us away like baggage just so you can go die alone... I’ll kill you myself."
A tiny, bitter ghost of a smirk tried to form on Yuki’s chapped lips, though it vanished almost instantly.
"Deal," he whispered.
Kasumi pulled up a stool on the opposite side of the bed, wiping her eyes with the back of her sleeve. "What happens now, Yuki? You can’t fight like this. You can’t even stand."
Yuki opened his milky eyes, watching the ceiling beam. He could still feel the faint, high-frequency hum of Sky Terror’s Rank 7 core resting heavily against his chest beneath the sheets, while his System interface flashed a wall of crimson warnings in his peripheral vision.
He had lost his points, his nuclear blueprints were blacklisted, his body was broken, and his friends were dead. But he was still breathing.
"Now..." Yuki said, his voice flat, steady, and terrifyingly cold. "I figure out how to fight without standing."
"You know once you sync a familiar, it becomes the same rank as you, right?" Kasumi asked softly.
"Yes," Yuki replied calmly. "I’ll figure something out. One way or another."
