Reincarnated With The Degenerate System
Chapter 285: Preparation for the Real Battle 3Days passed, and I devoted most of my time to mastering formation magic while turning the sanctuary into a fortress. Every wall, and open space became another piece of a much larger design.
Of course, I didn’t neglect my women. I made time for them every day, and I also began training them.
Through the Alien Hivemind, I could establish a direct connection with each one, guiding their mana and Qi with perfect precision and accelerating their growth far beyond what would have been possible through ordinary training.
Their strength rose at an astonishing pace. By the end of it, each of them was capable of taking on multiple boss monsters that ruled the 15th floor and above.
But if I were being honest, they would still die instantly if they encountered that thing.
Hexor existed on an entirely different level. It was unsettling to remember that the creature I had fought before was not even been its complete form.
Frankly, even after all the progress I made, I still wasn’t confident I could defeat him.
That was precisely why I decided to transform the entire sanctuary into one enormous formation. If I couldn’t guarantee victory through raw strength alone, then I would make sure I fought on ground where every advantage belonged to me.
"Ace... do you have time?"
I turned to see Alexa walking toward me.
She had already mastered her powers. Her Mirror Attack had evolved to the point where she could create dozens of mirror copies. Better yet, they could now remain active for far longer and each carried a significant portion of her own strength.
In a sense, she could theoretically perform formation magic as well. The only thing holding her back was that, unlike me, she lacked the ability to control multiple bodies with the precision required to coordinate them and recite complex spells simultaneously.
"What is it?"
"I know you’re busy..."
She grabbed her own shoulder, avoiding my gaze. Alexa wasn’t the type to hesitate or fidget, so the moment I saw her acting so uncharacteristically, I knew something was bothering her.
"Just tell me. There’s no need to hesitate."
She nodded and stepped closer.
"It’s just... everyone is worried. We feel like you’re rushing things, and we were wondering if there’s an enemy we should be worried about besides the monsters."
There was.
The monsters were nothing compared to the threat of Hexor—and even he was only one part of the danger. There were other beings out there, beings that he wanted to kill, whose existence was a far greater concern.
But telling them would accomplish nothing. It would only make them anxious and force them to carry a burden they didn’t need to bear.
"Don’t worry. I’m only doing this to make sure our sanctuary is secure."
She didn’t look convinced, so I pulled her closer by the waist and kissed her.
When we finally parted, her face was flushed, and she looked like she wanted more.
"As long as I’m here, nothing will happen to you. I’ll protect everyone, no matter what."
"Thank you."
She grabbed my collar and pulled me into another kiss. One kiss turned into another, and before long, we ended up spending several more moments together before I finally sent her away.
More and more of the girls came looking for me, so I ended up leaving my main clone to keep them company while I buried myself in work.
I inspected the sanctuary’s formation, going over every section repeatedly, searching for even the slightest weakness Hexor could exploit.
His title as the First Magician wasn’t just for show. As much as I hated to admit it, compared to him, my understanding of magic was, at best, only at an intermediate level. The only reason I had managed to close the gap at all was because of the overwhelming advantages my System provided.
Speaking of the System, I had also finished multiple lower-ranked cards. Individually, they weren’t nearly as powerful as the Titan cards, but I could finished them much faster.
CLANG!
I blocked a sword aiming for my neck, and smiled.
"What are you doing? You do realized that your attack can cut almost anything." I added, gesturing at the wall that now been clean cut despite not being hit by the blade.
Hai-Yen stared at me for a moment before smiling.
"I thought I’d be able to catch up to you after learning magic and Qi, but it seems you’ve become even stronger over the past few days. What’s your secret? Why does it feel like you’re leaving all of us further and further behind?"
My secret was the System.
It let me grow at a pace no ordinary being could ever hope to match. As long as I had enough time, I was confident I could eventually surpass anyone and bulldoze every being reckless enough to stand in my path.
Of course, I couldn’t just tell her that. It would ruin the mysterious aura I had painstakingly built over time. Maintaining that image wasn’t easy, and I’d worked far too hard to just be known as the guy who got a system.
"What can I say? I’m just naturally talented. Or maybe it’s because I have a very good reason to keep getting stronger."
A good reason?" She raised an eyebrow.
"To protect all of you."
I reached for the hilt of her sword and gently pulled her closer before pressing my lips against hers. She tensed for a moment, resisting out of surprise, but it didn’t take long before she melted into my arms.
"Are you really flirting with me right now?" she asked, her breathing still uneven.
"You’re my queen. Why wouldn’t I?"
She rolled her eyes, but the smile tugging at her lips made it obvious she enjoyed the attention.
Honestly, part of me wanted to spend some intimate time with her, Hai-Min, and their mother together, but I was almost certain she’d be completely against the idea.
Among all my women, she wasn’t exactly the easiest to handle. As for trying to control her, the thought had crossed my mind once or twice, but I opted not.
The two women I did not want to mentally control were her and her little sister. They were simply too precious to me—perhaps because, in my admittedly biased opinion, they were the prettiest.
