Greed really was universal.

It didn’t matter what world I went to. Give people enough power, and sooner or later, they’d start arguing over who deserved it.

In this case, the prize was Hexor’s position.

Well, now that I was technically his disciple too, I should do my best to make my seniors submit to me.

That way, when he came back, I could get more magic formulas. And if I got lucky, maybe I could even become his right-hand man.

Things were getting exciting. Unlike my time in the simulation, being in a new world with a real physical body offered a completely different kind of thrill.

I left Dorian and the others behind after getting everything I could from them.

There was no reason to keep them around, especially since they clearly wanted nothing more than to put as much distance between themselves and me as possible.

As an act of mercy, I did try my best to erase their memories. Unfortunately, their resistance was so strong that some of them ended up... mentally impaired.

Not really my fault, though.

They would’ve died if I did not saved them in the first place. So, technically, I actually did them a favor by extending there life by a few minutes.

I paused and narrowed my eyes.

Nothing.

Just mountains.

I was about to wonder whether Dorian had somehow gotten his directions wrong when I noticed something strange.

There was a large opening at the base of the mountain.

An entrance.

I stared at it.

Then I looked up at the mountain again.

The settlement was inside the mountain. That explained why I didn’t see anything while flying earlier.

I walked toward the entrance, and the closer I got, the more I realized how huge it was.

The entire mountain had been carved out and reinforced.

Massive stone walls surrounded the entrance, with glowing runes etched across them. There were even guards stationed nearby, checking people as they entered and left.

I slowed down.

I probably shouldn’t walk in there looking like I could casually destroy a mana beast with one finger. And my clothing were too flashy.

After all, I’m a very humble person.

I reached into my space storage and pulled out a simple gray robe.

Much better.

I looked like a completely ordinary traveler now.

Well...

At least from the outside.

I joined the flow of people entering the mountain entrance. Nobody paid much attention to me.

The entrance was busy, with hunters carrying weapons, merchants transporting supplies, and workers hauling containers filled with mana stones.

When I reached the guards, one of them held out his hand

"Identification."

I gave him a helpless look.

"I lost mine while hunting. I was actually planning to register again once I got here."

He looked suspicious.

I sighed and reached into my storage.

A moment later, several mana beast cores dropped into my palm.

The guard’s expression changed.

He stared at the cores, then at me.

"These..."

"Some of what I hunted on the way here."

His attitude changed immediately.

The registration process became surprisingly smooth after that.

They led me to an office near the entrance, where I was issued a new identification and a small metal tag covered in glowing runes. Apparently, the tag was used to keep track of people entering and leaving the settlement.

Nothing particularly advanced.

Once everything was finished, I finally stepped through the entrance.

And stopped.

The cavern inside the mountain was enormous.

I couldn’t even see the other side.

Buildings had been carved directly into the cavern walls, stacked several levels high. Bridges stretched between them, connecting different sections of the city, while staircases had been carved into the stone to let people move between the different levels.

Mana lamps illuminated the streets below, while the distant sounds of people talking, merchants shouting, and metal striking metal echoed through the cavern.

This reminded me of the dwarven city from one of my simulations.

Except there were no dwarves.

Instead, the streets were packed with humans carrying weapons.

Seeing a city like this without a single dwarf in sight was strangely disappointing.

I had just started walking when someone stepped directly in front of me.

"Hey. Are you new here?"

Four men had surrounded me.

One glance was enough.

Thugs.

I’d seen their kind in plenty of worlds before. Usually, they preyed on newcomers who didn’t know the local rules.

But these were somewhat unusual.

All of them were at least D Rank.

’I’m a transcendent-level being, and I’m getting mugged? This is actually kind of funny.’

The men spread out slightly, blocking the street around me, but I barely paid attention to them.

I was checking the people nearby, and there didn’t seem to be many S-Ranks among them.

That meant Dorian’s group was actually quite powerful. No wonder they were able to venture that far.

Now I felt a little bad about leaving them to their fate. Well, that was life.

One of them cracked his knuckles.

"Newcomers usually pay a little something for protection."

I glanced at his hand.

Then at his ugly face.

"Wow. So original."

His expression darkened.

"What did you say?"

I moved forward. "I advise that you—"

"Hey! Stop bullying him. "

A woman’s voice suddenly cut through the conversation.

It almost made me laugh that someone was actually trying to save me of all people. Me? And by a woman, no less.

I really didn’t like the idea, so I turned around to tell her I didn’t need assistance dealing with ants.

’What the hell? Since when did angels descend into this world?’

The first thing I noticed was her hair.

Long platinum hair fell down her back, catching the light from the mana lamps. Her silver eyes were striking enough to stand out even in a crowd, framed by long eyelashes.

She was tall. At least six foot two, with a well-proportioned figure and a broad sword hanging from her waist.

Her armor was silver and covered her chest and waist, leaving the rest of her body relatively exposed. It looked more practical than decorative, designed to give her room to move.

I took one look at her and instinctively gauged her strength.

Peak S Ranks, or even higher.
