Reincarnated With The Van Helsing System
Chapter 751 - 751: Showdown Devil VS Demon (part 23)Lezabel's story so far was honestly a tragedy, they lost their parents, had to fought a war that was completely avoidable, lost whatever remained of their family at the hands of their own fellow race members and were left alone with no trustable allies in a war-ridden huge expanse of territory out of which they had to escape, before even thinking about how to claim what was rightfully theirs again.
Then, Lezabel got to know that all of the previous was considered a "trial" for some shady thing, and yet while there was some melancholy, anger and a tinge of sadness, so far there was no hatred in the ghost girl's voice, until she reached this part of the story at least.
"Then it came, the second offer from the "devil", one the system knew I couldn't reject no matter what, "Do you want your sister to come with you?", it's what I was asked", said Lezabel as she slightly tightened her hug on Ariel, it's obvious that she blamed herself for Ariel ending up as an administrator.
"It's fine, I accepted before you could say anything, sister", mumbled the young angel girl, which earned her a head pat from Lezabel, the offer was made through her, but the one that had to accept it was Ariel at the end of the day.
"You see, one of the oldest tricks of the devil's book when it comes to dragging others into hell through "contracts" is giving them a freebie the first time, the hellish part starts after that".
"Like I said, our race wasn't divided by affinity or anything of the like, however our family had the purest light affinity within the winged heavenly race indeed, apparently, two good administrators weren't what the system wanted, and since I had the strongest "light", I was chosen to get the "good" concept while Ariel was given the "evil" concept".
"If that was everything there was to it, I wouldn't have really cared much, but given Ariel's young age and her lack of achievements in terms of combat, the grade of her concept was low, she was going to start in a place where magic doesn't even reach the Lord realm, her vessel a random object that is inherited by hot-blooded fools who aspire to become heroes just because they think it sounds cool, or some stupid thing like that, then fail as they naturally should and end up becoming losers that resent everything and everyone".
"So, I killed two birds with one stone and… ripped my wings with my own hands, therefore I became the one with the weakest "light" between the two of us and also gave Ariel an amazing achievement, she was gifted the wings of the strongest member from the heavenly winged race~", said Lezabel with a playful voice as she moved the back of her dress aside just a bit to reveal the three pairs of scars which proved that there was once "something" that sprouted of there, to then add.
"Sorry…", with a serious voice this time, which made sense, the previous didn't sound like something Lezabel should say with such a playful voice, in fact it might make Ariel feel guiltier because she "made" her sister suffer so much for her sake, it was weird that she didn't use a serious tone for the previous and instead did so while apologizing for it later though, however the young angel girl instead smiled to then say.
"Sister by all accounts should have fallen, but instead only became a bit unrestrained in terms of attitude, they couldn't take away your "light" until the end and I am proud of you for that", mumbled Ariel, which made Lezabel chuckle.
'That explains why her personality seems like an unnatural mix of fierceness and kindness, she wasn't so "unhinged" originally but became like that', thought Daimon, he also felt Eve radiating anger as if she was "clenching her hands", but didn't say anything about it and instead focused on those two again, since Lezabel continued with the story.
"Of course, cheating the "devil" is not so simple, first and formal since I "happily" discarded the very symbol of the heavenly winged race, I was stripped away from my lineage and changed to this ghost-like state, luckily my appearance didn't change much, my skin got paler, my hair was dyed black and my eye color changed, probably so that I looked actually "evil" but that was nothing for me".
"The real thing is that originally, we were just going to be an administrator with a good concept and an administrator with an evil concept and that was it, but due to the previous we became administrators with concepts fated to clash".
"What's more, as a punishment we wouldn't be able to interact with each other as anything but enemies until one of our hosts died when they happened to meet, the only consolation was that the chances of our hosts coinciding were on the higher end, and that's basically it, for the next hundreds of thousands of years we have been playing nannies for light heroes and devil kings, after losing too many times I lost the chance to save up origin as a penalty, well, this last time it was light hero against devil ruler, instead~", said Lezabel as she giggled, which made Daimon raise an eyebrow behind his mask.
"Why the differentiation at the end?", he asked making Lezabel laugh to herself as she answered.
"As punishment for my actions of ten thousand years ago, my concept was lowered from "devil king" to "devil ruler", the difference in power is not that huge but the conditions for the host are indeed different, it is supposed to be a female-exclusive system, the idea was to have the light hero which is male-exclusive and a horny dog magnet too, to mingle with my host to further cause trouble between Ariel and myself".
"But I simply gave Marcus the prohibition of no women in exchange, I didn't expect him to suddenly start liking men instead though, if he became strong, he could have reached a point where the conditions were void, the concept of the darkness devil king type is overwhelming strength that comes with time anyway~", she said.
The little break in the serious atmosphere was interrupted by Eve who had remained silent until now.
"What were the concepts you two were going to receive originally?", she asked.
"Mine was "Scion of Light" and Ariel's was something like "Aspiring Hero" or something like that?", answered Lezabel.
"Did you… notice something happening to the message screen after you lost your wings?", asked Eve.
"Mmm, I think that one of the corners of message seemed to tremble but I was in the middle of almost going crazy so my head was spinning at the time, why?", said the ghost girl as she made a question of her own.
"Since you became an administrator, you must know the basics about requirements for that, realm, talents, race and more importantly "achievements", however, the same doesn't apply for hosts, well, it also depends on the type of system we are talking about".
"If you were going to become an "Awakening" type system user considering your age-realm relation and that you didn't mention finding an object with a strong symbolic importance, a random mysterious trinket left behind by some expert or something along the lines of that nor experiencing some "unique" situation, the trial should have come way long before it did, when your parents died probably, if not, before you had the power to surpass the immediate crisis of your race, in other words before you surpassed your father's strength".
"Alternatively, the next best time for the awakening trial would have been when you faced that light dawn whatever system user, in which case no matter if you were strong enough to kill him with a single move, you should have found yourself in disadvantage, only after… suffering all the tragedies you mentioned from that moment onwards would you have been able to kill him to then awaken", said Evangeline, that situation aligned with Daimon's own experience, to then add.
"From my perspective you were a perfect candidate to become a "Beacon" type system user instead, the kind that is given a system after their race falls to the bottom and either rises again or is completely wiped out from existence, therefore your concept wouldn't have been "Scion of Light", but something race related, something on the level of "Heavenly Atavism" or "Ancestor Blessing" perhaps".
"So here is my take, you and your family messed up with the "script" because your race didn't fall to rock bottom thanks to the guard unit, so the light dawn race who had a system user as their champion were sent to set things right through a mission of course, then it turned out that you didn't need the system's power to overcome them so no clash between users happened, going against the script twice is an "offense", so you stopped being targeted to become a user and instead became an administrator candidate".
"While your response to the way that young angel girl was going to be treated was magnificent, unfortunately it's not so simple to get one over the system, from the moment you killed that user, the target was for you to become an evil type administrator and since you were evaluated to be the type to not fear your own death, they used your sister to get you to become an evil type", concluded Eve, that was also similar to Daimon's situation, Aisha's death had way more wight in his heart than his own after all, had Eve not done her best to repair the damage, what would Daimon had become remains a mystery, but it for sure wouldn't have been anything good.
"In other words, I played right into the system's hands…?", mumbled Lezabel to which Eve shook her head in response.
"No, if that would have been the case, there wouldn't have been a need for the specially tailored "punishment" you two received, the real aim must have been for you to go berserk by falling to go along with the equivalent of the "Scion of Light" from the devil type concepts "Scion of Calamity", but you endured it so you were punished to cover up the embarrassment of being bested".
"There is also the fact that an administrator interfered, that "tremble" on the corner of the message screen meant that at least one administrator must have been watching, probably the idea for the punishment came from them, I would bet for the one whose user you killed".
"This resulted in you two being damned to a farce of a clash between a low requirement hero and a mere devil king, when you obviously deserved way higher ranked stages, though there was still a chance for your hosts to break out of the mold, like that guy you mentioned could have ended the cycle if he would have killed the light hero in turn, which was caused because the system couldn't completely cage your potential", said Eve.
"Heh, so I still managed to spit on their faces, good~", said Lezabel, after all she has seen, this is a victory in her book, because ultimately the system didn't get what it wanted and now, she was here hugging her sister for more than a couple of seconds, for the first time since they weren't administrators.
'Fucking bastards, toying with decent people's lives as they please…', thought Daimon as he gritted his teeth behind his mask, the idea of someone staging Aisha's death just to use him as a pawn in some stupid cliché script in which he burned the world down due to the previous, really angered him.
Unfortunately, he had no one on whom venting that, because obviously Eve is not the kind of person who would do that, and his system is also clearly outside of the influence of whatever is in control of other systems, because nothing negative comes from his system.
Even the restrictions are for his own good, this is something that Eve herself has said, it's just that sometimes they are a bit too tight, or more accurately Daimon is too strong for his actual realm and age so the releasing of the restrictions can't keep up in some instances, a "bug" that should be patched up once the system ranks up as it again unlike others, adapts to Daimon's personal preferences.
The sole negative situation regarding his system was before he obtained it, probably because Eve couldn't reach him prior to that, he wasn't her user back then, still Daimon is no longer the type to lose control of himself, Erin's teachings not only don't deny negative emotions, they support them, feeling hatred, anger, sadness is fine, so long as you don't let them dictate your actions but as fuel to for mental growth, this is the major difference between the charming fox matriarch and any other strategist, her head is not always "cool and clear", she never forgets even the slightest grudge but is in absolute control of herself, which is way harder than the other option.
"At this point is obvious that system users tend to either appear and also be involved in major scale events, but what does the system win with that, I'm not naïve enough to believe that "someone" who could plan others to end up the way they want in such a detailed manner, is bored enough to just watch how things unfold", said Daimon.
Lezabel is not dumb and yet she still half ended playing herself into the hands of the system, even Daimon admits that breaking out of the trap the system set for her would have been really hard.
"You'll have to wait some time to know about that… I'm sure even they don't know about it after all", said Eve as she gazed at Lezabel and Ariel who looked at Daimon, well, at Eve whose voice came from Daimon's position.
"Wasn't the system's objective, the "origin" generated by the hosts, we always got so little of it since most was taken away by the system and it's an energy that can take any property, level, affinity, it can even be turned into physical items… like promise level treasures", said Ariel to which Eve answered.
"Nope, that's only "currency" for administrators but we'll leave the subject at that for the time being, what I can tell you is that after the global raid, I'll be able to tell you about all the different types of system users", the first part was for Ariel while the later part of her answer was for Daimon.
Eve was able to bypass restrictions on two different types so far "Awakening" and "Beacon", but just to mention them and give vague examples about them not proper descriptions, that being said, Eve being the smart girl she is, dropped a few hints during the previous conversation.
'Administrators seem to have a "vessel" of some kind, so I already guessed that it was possible for some people to find one and become a system user that way, it's the good old grandpa in the necklace or ring trope, well… I have an Azure Galaxy Whale princess on my hand', jokingly thought Daimon as he gazed at the blue gem ring in which Ophelia was calmy recovering since Lyn was out of the picture for now, thus she was spared from her bestie's untamed comments.
Naturally just holding onto an administrator's proof as Eve called it, doesn't turn someone into a system user of that type, there must be requirements which include the "symbolic importance" of the object for the person in question and things like that, in any case Daimon was more interested in the other hint mentioned by eve.
'People who had "unique" experiences… like being reincarnated for example', he thought.
Eve didn't say that Daimon was an "Awakening" type user, he did go through a trial, which is akin to one of them, but at the same time she does know about his past life, the system's shop which varies depending on the user even had items related to earth's culture, movies included but she wasn't surprised about it.
Which kind of makes sense, in the vastness of the universe, earth can't be the only planet with a modern non-magic civilization, what's more, back at earth magic and martial arts did exist just in different forms than in this world, so chances were that maybe in one of the many planets and stars that existed in the milky way which were unreachable for humanity, there might have been "neighbors" whose influence were the origin of that.
Also, there was no mention of one having to be limited to being a single system user type either, so who knows.
'Eve said that the chances of she ever getting a host were practically non-existent, so perhaps the conditions had to do with the type of system user, not to mention that according to her I already had "something" on me before not only becoming her host but even coming to this world… whatever, if my friend isn't telling me more, it's for a good reason', he concluded.
Which earned him a bright smile from a certain blurred figure with the exception of a few locks of hair, floating while holding onto a large pillow, surrounded by a barren land whose sky was filled with countless fierce looking chains whose sizes grew to unimaginable proportions the higher you went, that being said, some had developed cracks on their links.
'Not even the most paranoic of those bastards could have expected someone within mortal limits to unlock the series of missions which leads to "that" since the requirements are said to be impossible to achieve, unfortunately for them, my Daimon is unique in his kind… I'm not even sure what his kind is though, but I guess that alone speaks by itself~', thought Eve to then say.
"Well, now that we have clarified that, I'll make you the same offer that I did to that little angel, sign a contract with Daimon, then you won't need to leave".
"My case is not the same as Ariel's, while I have no idea how I wasn't dragged away already, I can't freely roam without a host unlike my little sister, the system will notice my disappearance, if it would end with me becoming a rogue and being hunted down or something like that then I wouldn't care, but "hounds" will be sent after Ariel as well, so I have to return, also I told you my current system is female-exclusive", said Lezabel to which Eve shook her head.
"I can't go into details, but let's just say that regardless of your situation prior to, everything will be fine once you sign the contract, also restrictions like those mean nothing for Daimon, unless we are talking about an absolute fate contract, but that privilege is mine and mine only, you get life and death contracts at most", she said.
"Pfft, you can do things that I thought were impossible and know stuff that makes me wonder… who the hell are you", said Lezabel the first part of her sentence was playful but the latter part was deadly serious, as in she thought Eve was in cahoots with the system which she hated so much.
'I already made a deal with the devil once, it's not happening again', she thought to herself, only for Eve's voice to reach her mind directly.
'How about a deal with a demon then', said Eve to which Lezabel asked.
'What's the difference?'.
'Devils exist to drag you to hell as you already learned, but demons can use the same hand with which they behead someone, to save someone, neither good nor evil but chaotic, impossible to control, simply put… they do whatever they want and no one can do anything about it'.
'I guess we are not talking about the negative oriented races here but something way higher ranked then', concluded Lezabel to which she could imagine the other party smiling at her.
For Ariel who was praying to her insides that her sister changed her mind, it was as if Lezabel's aggressiveness disappeared as soon as it became present, only Daimon noticed that Eve had done "something", though he didn't know what it was.
"Fine, staying with you is much more interesting and more importantly my sister will be safe, so if you dare to accept me, I dare to jump into your arms~", said the ghost girl as she floated away from her sitting position to then place her arms on Daimon's right shoulder
"Three timing with both Ariel and myself, will you be fine, let me tell you that the guy who could have broken the cycle didn't even provide me with a fourth part of the limit of origin I could force this concept to accept, so I hope yours is stronger~", she said to which Eve loudly coughed to interrupt her.
"Ahem, first we'll be four in total counting you two, as there is another administrator, also Daimon is not like that hero trash so don't overthink, your sister agreed to the contract to free you and lastly be careful with what you wish, Daimon's origin is nothing like what you can imagine, as the one among us four who is currently "busy", learned the hard way", said Eve.
While neither those two nor Freya have physical bodies, they do have projections and can directly interact with others, so chances are that with the contract they will be able to gain a physical form to shortly use every now and then and she absolutely didn't want other administrator to get close to Daimon in the real world before she could.
"Hoh, I already know he isn't someone like that, otherwise I wouldn't have ever agreed to leave Ariel in his hands, I simply feel like I wouldn't mind becoming his, I bet he'll be quite devilish as a lover as well, or "demonish" was it~", said Lezabel which made Eve add.
"I changed my mind Daimon, let's toss her back into the system's prison".
