Dorian’s jaw falls open. Of all people? Why did it have to be her?
Why does it have to be the one girl he can’t imagine ever hurting? They are going to torture and bleed her dry just for their own sick revenge!
No, he can’t do that to her. Not her.
As if reading his mind, his phone beeps, a text from his father. "Anything yet?"
His jaw tightens, staring down at the screen until his vision blurs. He’s going to have to lie.
"No. Nothing yet." He types back, his fingers shaking. Because if his father found out about this lie, he’d kill him.
Then kill Nyra.
Fuck. He drags a hand down his face, returning his focus back to the monitor screen.
So Nyra is a pure-royal-blooded wolf?
But how the fuck is that possible? A wolf that rare and powerful should be exceptionally strong.
She’s just a small, innocently looking, wolfless girl.
Or maybe she has been pretending all these years? He glances at the monitor again, completely dumbfounded.
Adrian is also shocked, completely lost for words. On the other hand, his wolf purrs happily, finally seeing the real form of his mate.
"My mate. She’s so beautiful," it mumbles, dancing happily. It doesn’t seem to care that she’s far more superior than him.
"Wow..." Jason also whispers. "I-I don’t know what to say."
The wolf drops the injured body on the floor right at the entrance. Then she presses a hand to Adrian’s unconscious body. A white light appears, jolting Adrian back awake, though he’s very weak.
She also spreads the white light over his wounds, and the bleeding slowly stops.
Then Nyra switches back to her human form. In the simulation, none of her clothes are torn. So she easily carries him the rest of the way to the entrance.
Immediately, the monitor cuts off.
"W-what happened?!"
"She passed, don’t worry." Jason runs a hand through his hair. "Wow. I- Nyra is really meant to be Luna after all."
Adrian doesn’t respond, facing both boys with a stern expression. He bares his fangs.
"If any of you dare tell anyone else what you saw in here," he threatens, "I’ll tear you to pieces. Mark. My. Word."
His shoulder slams warningly into the both of them as he brushes past, speeding off toward the junior building.
He can’t wait to break the news that nothing was, in fact, real, and that he is still very safe.
Most of all, that she is now a senior student of Moon-Crest Academy.
---
Nyra’s heart is pounding as she opens her eyes again, and finds herself still sitting in her classroom.
So... she never left?!
None of them left?!
Mr. Philip smiles broadly at everyone as they all look at each other in shock and confusion. Clearly, they all experienced the same thing.
"Congratulations, students." He says calmly. "I know you’re shocked, but the practical wasn’t just about a test of strength for your wolf. It is about allowing it to guide you in your day-to-day life. It is about responsibility, loyalty, trust, and most of all, confronting your biggest fears."
Some of the students are sweating profusely. Nyra can only wonder what they went through.
"Did we all pass?" One boy from the back asks.
"Unfortunately... no." Mr. Philip replies. "Some of you barely passed. And some of you..." He meets Nyra’s eyes. "Did exceptionally well."
Nyra shifts uncomfortably in her seat.
"The results have been printed on the notice board. Congrats to all the excellent candidates, you are now senior students of Moon-Crest Academy!"
Some of the students cheer, others look sad, while the rest rush out to check their scores on the notice board.
Nyra turns to her friends. Immediately they see her, they rush and pull her into a tight group hug.
"I’m so glad you’re all okay," she mumbles.
"Me too." Lena responds. "That was absolutely insane!!"
"I thought I was going to lose my mind. My wolf literally made me face my fear of being rejected by my mate."
Lena scoffs at Naya. "That’s your biggest fear!?"
"What’s wrong with that?" Naya responds, looking offended. "Being rejected by your mate hurts like hell. Not everyone has an unbreakable bond like our friend here."
Nyra chuckles shyly.
"Anyways, mine made me fight a whole group of rogues," Leah groans loudly. "I swear my legs are still shaking from fear."
Nyra looks at all three of them, relieved they’re all okay.
"What about you?" Lena asks suddenly. "What did your wolf make you do?"
How does she tell them shifting was also one of her biggest fears...
Nyra opens her mouth, but before she can answer, a voice calls from the doorway.
"Nyra! The future Alpha is looking for you."
Nyra doesn’t even wait one second. After what happened during the exams, she runs out of the classroom immediately. She needs to make sure he’s really okay.
Her friends chuckle and whisper behind her.
The moment she sees him standing at the end of the hallway, completely unharmed, all the anger she’d been holding onto for two days disappears.
"Adrian!" Nyra throws herself into his arms, not caring that students were watching. "Oh my goodness, you scared me!"
"I know." He buries his face against her hair, hugging her tightly. "I’m sorry, baby. I’m so fucking sorry. But I’m okay now, see? My legs are fine."
Nyra pulls back slightly, staring at him. "Wait... how--"
"I watched your entire exam." A proud smile spreads across his face. "You’re so amazing, Nyra! I can’t believe you’re all mine!"
She meets his silver eyes, studying them. "So... you’re not upset about my wolf?"
"I was at first... but only because you didn’t tell me. But I understand why you hid it."
"Oh."
"Yes, in fact. My wolf wants to meet yours. They need to talk. Didn’t you feel it? He has been nudging at her for ten minutes now."
Nyra smiles. She had felt it, but she just thought it was because of the adrenaline rush.
She’s still unfamiliar with everything...
Behind them, Naya, Leah and Lena come out squealing happily. "Nyra... you got the highest score!!"
"What!?"
"Come see, you did so good!"
Adrian behind them just chuckles. "Go, baby, I’ll be right here waiting for you."
"Okay... I’ll be right back!" She says, before her friends quickly drag her back into the classroom.
The girls practically squeeze through the crowd gathered around the notice board, dragging Nyra with them.
"Nyra, look!"
Naya points at the top of the list, and there it is, her name written boldly.
NYRA HALE : 9.8/10
Practical: 5.0/5.0
Theory: 4.8/5.0
She smiles so bright her cheeks hurt. "Wow... I really didn’t expect that."
She was terrified that she would fail the theory exam, and the practical had felt like an actual nightmare. Somehow, she’d still managed to come out on top.
Lena squeals. "Well, you better believe it, because you got the highest score!"
Naya jumps on them. "And we all passed. Lena actually scored 8.6."
Lena flicks her hair proudly, and all three of them jump excitedly, before forming a group hug.
But then Claire’s bitter voice comes from behind them, cutting through their celebration.
"Why are you all acting so excited for Nyra, when you know she cheated?"
They all stop laughing, turning to face Claire.
"What? I didn’t cheat."
"Leave her." Lena rolls her eyes. "She’s just bitter because she failed her exams."
Claire scoffs. "Even if I didn’t fail, I’d still say the truth. Adrian clearly used his connections to help her. There’s no way anyone can score that high... just admit it."
The accusation makes Nyra fuming mad.
She was genuinely terrified. She fought off four huge boys for her friend. She walked into a burning building so many times just to make sure everyone came out safely.
And now this girl has the audacity to accuse her of cheating?
"You know what? I am tired of you always saying horrible things about me. I wrote the exam fair and square. I studied, I struggled, and I did my best. That’s why I scored the highest."
Claire looks raging mad, a hand crossed over her chest.
"And maybe if you cared about something other than yourself, you’d actually do well too."
Other students laugh, making Claire even angrier.
She grabs Nyra’s hand harshly, nails digging into her skin. "How dare you talk about me like that, you witch!?"
"No, how dare you!" Nyra jerks herself free, but somehow that small movement sends Claire crashing into some desks.
The other students gasp in shock, surprised at Nyra’s strength.
Nyra looks down at her hands too. Right... she has some wolf training to do. Still, she doesn’t regret pushing Claire one bit.
Behind them, Adrian’s scent wraps around her before she sees him. He comes in fuming, hands in his pockets.
"If this is how you’re all going to act as seniors, then you better stay here and repeat."
No one dares to say another word.
Then he turns to Claire. If looks could kill, she would be dead in that moment. "I’m only sparing you right now because my mate already dealt with you. But the next time you touch her, I’ll kill you."
Claire looks away, too scared to utter another word.
"Come on, baby." He grabs her hand, ignoring the stares. "We have more pressing matters to talk about."
