Chapter 591: Chapter 591: Guess Who I Am?
He was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Annabelle, did you know? I used to have a sister, too."
A sister?
Annabelle Linton didn’t know he had a sister.
In fact, aside from his name, she really didn’t know much else about him.
"Oh?" Annabelle Linton looked at him in surprise. "I had no idea."
Quentin Holland let out a soft laugh. A flicker of sorrow passed through his eyes, but it vanished in an instant, sinking back into their profound depths before she could even register it.
An announcement came over the PA system. Quentin Holland smiled again, choosing not to finish what he was saying. He changed the subject, stood up, and said to Annabelle Linton, "It’s time to board."
Annabelle Linton took her luggage but didn’t move. "So what happened then?" she asked, her curiosity piqued. "What about your sister? How old would she be, and where is she now?"
Quentin Holland’s lips curved into a slight smile, but he didn’t elaborate. With his hands in his pockets, he said simply, "She went missing. She was only a few months old at the time. We searched for a long time but never found her."
"If she were still around, she’d be about your age. For some reason, I’ve always felt a strange sense of kinship with you, so I’ve always thought of you as a sister.
I don’t know if she’s truly happy wherever she is now, but I have this strange feeling that if you’re unhappy, she must be unhappy too. That’s why I want you to be happy every single day, you know?"
’So that’s why.’
Annabelle Linton had never understood why Quentin was always so good to her. Now, she finally got it.
’So all this time, he’d been seeing me as his long-lost sister.’
’It sounds so bizarre, though. Going missing at just a few months old.’
’Is she even still alive? Where could she be? And how did she go missing in the first place?’
A million questions flooded her mind, and Annabelle Linton wanted to ask more, but another announcement came over the speakers.
She said with sincerity, "Quentin, you’ll find your sister."
"I hope so," Quentin Holland said, ruffling her hair again. "Annabelle, I don’t know if your happiness is real or just for show, but remember to take good care of yourself over there, okay? I’ll find time to come visit."
Annabelle Linton smiled. "Okay, thank you, Quentin. I will. I’ll take care of myself. You take care of yourself too."
"Yeah. Go on, get on the plane."
"Okay. Goodbye, Quentin. And say hi to everyone for me."
"Mm-hm."
Annabelle Linton waved, then turned and went through security. In moments, she had disappeared down the passageway.
Quentin Holland watched her go, his gaze fixed on her back. Even after she disappeared around a corner, he didn’t seem to snap out of his trance.
His profound gaze remained fixed on the passageway where Annabelle had vanished, though it was impossible to tell what he was seeing. His eyes only grew more and more inscrutable.
After a long moment, he murmured ambiguously, "That’s right... if she were here now, she’d be the same age as you..."
Annabelle Linton boarded the plane, and it took off shortly thereafter.
The sun was beginning to set, and its lingering rays filled the sky, creating a scene that was both warm and spectacular.
The corners of her lips curved into a faint smile as she pulled her gaze away from the window. She flipped open a magazine and started to read.
...
By the time the plane landed, the world outside was a sea of bright lights.
Annabelle Linton deplaned, put on her headphones, and started walking out while pulling her suitcase.
But as she walked, someone suddenly wrapped their arms around her from behind.
Startled, her first instinct was to strike out, but she froze when the person planted a kiss on her cheek.
"Guess who I am?" Leona Grant’s voice was bright with pleasure as she held her.
’That familiar scent, this strong embrace... as if I even needed to guess.’
