Rent-A-Boyfriend in A Reverse World

Chapter 6: Otherworld Twitter (Minor Rewrites)

After kissing mama goodnight, I returned to my room.

"Hm... what should I do before bed? I just ate, so I shouldn't lay down for a while."

I check my phone for the time.

7:56 PM

"I'll sleep at 9 PM. In the meantime, I'll check out this world's Twitter." Yeah surprisingly a lot of the modern stuff from my old world is also here. Just created by different people.

For a comfortable read, I move over to my bed and sit down on its edge. The soft mattress sinking under my rear.

"Way softer than my old bed. My hospital bed was pretty good too, but this one tops it all."

'The way my ass sinks into it is on a whole other level. I can't wait to sleep on this later.'

"Now let's go on Twitter."  I open my phone and look for a familiar X-shaped icon.

Tapping on it sent me to the app's For You feed.

And after some scrolling...

"Old Andy's feed is full of drama..."

Posts from men ranting that all women are inherently rapists. Screenshots of articles about men getting assaulted, stalked, and raped with captions like "All women are pigs." And shit.

"A majority of the articles are from foreign countries, though. I only saw a few Japan ones. Still bad, but not horrible."

There was one intriguing, or rather ridiculous post from a female account, though.

It was a post claiming that her boyfriend was stolen by his sister.

I thought she was just insane and lying, but there were nearly a hundred replies from other women claiming that something similar happened to them. One side was sisters, another cousins, and the third..

"Stolen by the mother..."

Women who've had their lovers stolen by the mothers.

"Fictional incest is great, but real incest? That's just wrong."  I lightly shake my head.

"No. That has to be a troll post or something. I'm an idiot for readily believing something on the internet. I'm not the old Andy."

Even if there are fewer men, incest wouldn't be common at all. At most, it'd be limited to certain regions like in my old world.

"... I should delete my account and make a new one."

Fortunately, old Andy didn't post anything. At most, he just retweeted meminist shit. Even his profile picture is just a picture of lavenders.

"Barely a digital footprint, if you even count retweeting. I can safely start anew. Thanks, old Andy."

If I had to guess his thought process, it would be something like, "I don't want these disgusting women to even see my face."

As to why he didn't post texts, I have no clue.

[Delete Account? Yes/No]

My finger pressed "Yes" without hesitation. There's nothing worth keeping in this account.

"Time to make a new account."

But what should I do with it? Post pictures of myself? Post updates of my daily life?

"No. I'd rather not become something like an e-thot from my old world. Nor do I want to overshare and dox myself."

I brainstormed for how I should go about using my newly created social media account.

The conclusion I came to was...

"Just be... me. Just be normal. Post what I want, when I want. Isn't that how social media should really be used?"

Anything is fine as long as I don't do anything harmful or toxic.

"And regarding posting pictures of myself, maybe I can post pictures of cosplays occasionally? I always admired cosplayers both online and in conventions."

I also did a few cosplays myself, but never posted them online. I didn't have the balls to do so, nor did I want to be dedicated cosplayer. And my skills were mediocre at best.

"But now I have this ikemen-level face and figure. And I'll have a much easier time making costumes in Tokyo."

And if I still suck at costume-making, then I can just commission them from costume makers. Mama gives me a hefty allowance every month.

"While I'm at it, I should look for the next big otaku convention."

It took me a while to find, but it turns out the next big otaku convention is in early December and ticket sales will open in November. Right now it's late October, so not that long.

"I'll need to find a character to cosplay that's not too hard to make. I'll scroll through Twitter for some ideas."

I then spent the next half hour scrolling through Twitter and tailoring a personal algorithm that suits my tastes and interests.

Liking posts about anime, manga, games, cosplays, and artworks. All while avoiding any toxic drama posts.

Since the algorithm is still shoving new things in my face, I've come across a wide variety of posts. Some I'd rather not see ever again.

I later stop at one peculiar post.

"A rant about a rental boyfriend experience?" My attention was pulled into another one of those rant posts. I usually just scroll past such things, but the title intrigued me.

(@takamine20493)

[NIGHTMARE Rental Boyfriend Experience]

["So I'm kind of new to using rental boyfriend apps, and wowzers they're expensive. I've rented a total of 3 guys so far. And I can say this about all 3 of em; they fully treat it as a business transaction. Like they didn't even hide it. They kept me at a pole's distance. And I couldn't really enjoy my time bought with them. How do you all enjoy these things?? Am I just choosing the wrong guys? And speaking of, the 3rd guy was the WORST. The moment I met up with him, he looked at me with disdain. Like I'm trash on the side of the road. I'm not a masochist, so I wasn't into it. But not once did he smile. He frowned the whole time. He wasn't a tsundere. He just genuinely fucking hated being with me."]

>@kaedealcohol: "Lmao you actually use those apps? L bozo."

^@takamine20493: "Yeah, fatherless bitch. I want to spend time with guys, in case I die the next day."

>@takoronachinchin: "I can recommend you some guys on an app called Dreamers."

^@takamine20493: "I would be so thankful. Please DM me their names."

>@chizuru250k: "Rookie. You need to get used to it. Most of the guys are like that. If you can't afford to find the good guys yourself, then you can wait till others have had a go with him before you try him yourself."

^@takamine20493: "Okay, what the fuck? The way you worded it makes me sound like a cuck."

^@takoronachinchin: "Wait, aren't you that hopeless bitch that spent 250,000 dollars on a single rental boyfriend and he just cucked you repeatedly? What happened with that?

I read the whole post and some of the replies. At first, I was a bit surprised that rental boyfriends exist in a skewed gender ratio world like this. But now that I think about it, it makes sense.

The ratio is not abysmal like in some of the reverse world stories I've read before coming here. So it isn't far fetched that some guys would exploit their body for easy money like this. As long as they're decently attractive, probably.

"... Fascinating. I want to learn more about this part of the world."

I wonder how these rental boyfriend dates go. The bad ones, the good ones, and what the dream date is like for women here.

>@andylavender: "What happened in the dates? And what did you hope for?"

I posted a reply to the post. Intending to gget more details.

"Hopefully I get a reply. Or maybe I should make my own post asking? That could work."

*ping*

A notification came through and made itself known through my phone. Vibrating briefly.

"Huh? No way.. Already??" I refresh the post and sure enough, I got a reply from the OP. Maybe she frequently checks and comments on replies. The post is only a few hours old, after all.

>@andylavender: "What happened in the dates? And what did you hope for?"

^@takamine20493: "I took them out to eat at my favorite hotpot place and then went to see a movie I wanted. The guys weren't enthusiastic with my choices though. The movies were either anime or action so I get why they weren't into it. But hotpot? I thought everyone liked hotpot!

And regarding what I had hoped the dates would go like, I had hoped they'd smile at me often and generally enjoy my company and my plans. Oh and I wanted to do that "aah~" thing where we feed each other bites of food. And maybe they'd show some interest in the movie I picked out. But alas I'm shooting too far."

"Pfft! Ahahahah! Fuck. That's so cute"  I laughed heartily.

"And sounds really nice..."

"....."

I close Twitter and open the app store.

"Dreamers..."

The name of the rental boyfriend app that one reply mentioned.

I looked it up on the Play Store and found its page.

["Fulfill your dreams of romance with rental boyfriends! Sign up with a valid ID to start renting!"]

I stared at the app's page for a while. Looked through a couple reviews.

And an idea slowly popped up in my head. An idea that would have been impossible for me in my old world.

"Should I... try becoming a rental boyfriend?"
