The man froze, then turned to look at Ethan with a displeased scowl.
"Who the fuck are you?"
Ethan blinked at him, then smiled. "I am her husband."
The man stared at him in disbelief. "Lies! You just want to play hero saving the beauty, don’t you? I’ve read it so many times and it’s cliche."
He stood up and reached towards Evelyn, but suddenly felt a strong blow hit the back of his neck.
His eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fell to the ground with a thud.
Ethan stepped over him and looked at Cassie suspiciously.
"She’s passed out?"
Evelyn shrugged. "Seems so."
She glanced at the unconscious man on the floor, then looked at Ethan. "Why did you... knock him out?"
His eyes narrowed, and a dangerous smile appeared on his face. "He’d wrinkle my clothes if I didn’t take him out immediately."
Evelyn shook her head and tugged at Cassie’s arm. "Idiot friend. Get up already, ugh."
She pouted and tried to wake her up by repeatedly tapping her. However, Cassie showed no reaction in the slightest.
"It’s fine. Let’s just get her out of here."
Ethan moved to her side, casually pulling the young lady’s arm around his neck as he helped her up.
Evelyn did the same from the other side, and they both lifted Cassie from the chair. They managed to carry her out of the bar, and Ethan had to place the woman on his back—much to his displeasure.
Still, he tolerated it because she was Evelyn’s friend. Also, he couldn’t stand and watch Evelyn struggle to support her friend.
Unknown to them, as they headed to the street, Cassie’s lips curved slightly, and she thought, ’Yes, we’ll start from there!’
She had been pretending all along, knowing full well that Evelyn wouldn’t be able to carry her alone.
Luckily, her plans worked well enough.
They soon reached the streets and boarded a taxi. Cassie tried to rest her head on Ethan’s shoulder, but he pushed her over to Evelyn. A faint feeling of displeasure burned in her heart, but she didn’t show it.
After all, she was still pretending to be out cold.
"I find it strange, though," Evelyn suddenly said, "Cassie broke up with her boyfriend a month ago. Did they make up only to break up again? Or is it a different person?"
Ethan shrugged. "You can ask her once she’s awake."
Meanwhile, Cassie’s heart tightened. ’So she almost caught on to my lie. Good thing she voiced out her thoughts. I’ll think of an answer ahead of time.’
The taxi finally parked in front of Cassie’s home, and they helped her out of the car. Right then, Cassie groggily came to her senses, looking around in confusion.
"Hm? Eve...lyn? What are you doing here?"
Evelyn shook her head and pinched Cassie’s nose. "Tch. You drank so much today. You should get some sleep first."
Cassie looked around and realized they had brought her to her house.
’Damnit! I thought they’d take me to their house. Fuck!’
Evelyn searched her bag and took out the key. Together with her husband, they helped Cassie to her room and dropped her on the bed.
"Haa... so troublesome. She’s already asleep again?"
Seeing Cassie sleeping so soundly, Evelyn was surprised. Hadn’t she just been awake moments ago?
Ethan patted her shoulder. "Let’s get going. She’ll wake up soon, I guess. Just make sure you text her."
Evelyn nodded, and they both left.
After confirming that they had locked the door and left, Cassie finally opened her eyes and scowled.
"Annoying couple! Why do they look so good together?"
She buried her face in her pillow, saddened. "Even Chris, who used to have a crush on me is now fawning over her. That bitch...!"
...
Unaware of her friend’s tantrum, Evelyn rested her head comfortably on Ethan’s shoulder, a dreamy smile on her face.
"I love you, Ethan."
Ethan smiled back and said in a low voice, "Love you too."
The driver glanced at them from the rearview mirror, suddenly missing his wife at home.
’Ugh. Young couple these days!’
A while later, Ethan and Evelyn returned to their house, and Nora eagerly opened the door with a smile.
"Welcome back!"
Ethan looked at her smile, then checked her happiness status.

’It increased a little? Hmm...’
He crouched before the girl and pulled her into a hug. "Did you miss me?"
She nodded gently. Ethan knew she was lying—probably—but he couldn’t call her out. Instead, he picked her up and rubbed her back gently.
"Good girl. Daddy missed you too."
Nora’s eyes widened in surprise, but she simply smiled and hummed, "Mn."
Ethan took her to the kitchen, then helped her sit on the table. "What do you want to eat?"
Nora hesitated, then smiled at him. "Swiss cheese!"
Ethan nodded and immediately began preparing it. It didn’t take long, and he served her with what was actually her favorite meal.
While she ate, Ethan approached Evelyn and asked in a low voice, "What do you think about going to a cinema?"
Evelyn looked at him in surprise, then nodded slowly. "I don’t know... Do you want to go?"
Ethan nodded. "I want us to spend some more time together as a family before we move out of this house."
"Move out, huh..." Evelyn smiled, still struggling to believe it. "Things are changing so rapidly."
Ethan smiled and patted her back. "You’ll get used to it. Trust me."
Just then, Evelyn’s phone rang, and she checked. It was a call from her father.
Her smile dimmed slightly, and she hesitantly answered the call.
"Good evening, Dad."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then she heard a sigh.
"You’re still with that man?" James asked, sounding tired.
Evelyn nodded even though she knew he couldn’t see her. "I am. I’m not leaving my husband."
James’s voice became harsh, and he said, "Good, good. I don’t know what stubborn mushroom he’s feeding you, but if you’re not going to leave him, then get ready to move out of that house. This is your last warning."
Evelyn paused, tears brimming in her eyes. She looked at Ethan who was now trying to get a bite from Nora’s meal, then forced a smile.
"I understand."
