Chapter 530: Chapter -530

She whirled around, pointing a sharp, accusatory finger at the System.

"Samuel wasn’t hiding out in some godforsaken, untraceable foreign country for the last few years! He was right here, in this exact same empire, living in a small, completely accessible village, acting as a lowly servant! And do you know what the absolute worst part is?"

The System’s blue interface flickered nervously.

"If they dig into Samuel’s life in that village, they aren’t just going to find him," Heena hissed, her voice dropping into a deadly whisper. "They are going to find me."

[Wait...] the System stammered, its digital processor scrambling to pull up the original host’s background files. [You mean... the original Seera?]

"Yes!" Heena shouted, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "As long as they dig into Samuel, they will literally find out the Vanguard’s deepest, darkest secret! They will find out that the original Seera suffered severe trauma, lost her memories, became a complete amnesiac, and was acting as a literal, floor-scrubbing servant in that exact same village for two to three years!"

She stopped pacing, leaning heavily on the desk and glaring at the lion.

"Do you think these bastards of a noble society would ever accept that fact?!" Heena demanded. "Do you think they will bow to a Vanguard General who spent three years washing peasant clothes because she forgot her own name?! They would use it to completely shatter my legitimacy!"

[They... they will try to use your amnesia and his low status against you?] the System guessed hesitantly, finally realizing the catastrophic magnitude of the problem.

"They will cause an absolute political avalanche!" Heena sneered. "They will draft petition after petition, screaming that the Vanguard bloodline is tainted, that I am mentally unfit, and that I have been compromised by a common servant. And do you know what happens next? Do you know how this specific palace trope always ends?"

The System shook its head.

"The Emperor will swoop in, acting like a benevolent, pitying god," Heena said, her lip curling in disgust. "He will say, ’Oh, what a tragedy! The young heiress is emotionally unstable, mentally scarred from her amnesia, and crazed with love. She cannot possibly manage the Vanguard military.’ And then, that imperial bastard will casually suggest making Samuel the official Master of the House to ’stabilize’ the family."

Heena gripped the edge of her desk, her knuckles turning bone-white.

"Once Samuel is legally the head of the house, my authority is instantly halved. Then, they will target my grandfather. They will claim he has grown too old, too weak, and that his military command needs to be absorbed by the throne to protect the empire from our ’family instability.’ It is the oldest, dirtiest page in the Imperial Playbook!"

The System floated lower, its digital processing core finally comprehending the sheer scale of the political trap. This wasn’t just about a bruised ego; this was a calculated siege on the Vanguard’s military authority.

[But Host...] the System asked, its voice dropping to a whisper. [Who has the power to manipulate the newspaper prints like this so quickly? Could it just be a petty rival noble who paid them off? The Marquis, perhaps?]

Heena rubbed her throbbing forehead, letting out a dark, humorless laugh. "Definitely not."

She looked at the digital lion, shaking her head at its modern-world assumptions.

"Listen to me, System. This is the ancient world. We do not have automated printing presses, digital media, or magical replication devices. Every single one of these newspapers is painstakingly block-printed or written by hand. They are produced in limited quantities, and distribution is heavily controlled. This is not a modern democracy where anyone can just print whatever slander they want under the guise of free speech."

Heena walked over to where she had thrown the crumpled Evening Chronicle and kicked it across the floor in sheer disgust.

"These newspapers operate under the absolute, unbreakable protection of the Imperial Family. They deliberately brand themselves as independent. They pretend to be the voice of the people. And because of that brilliant illusion, the commoners trust them vastly more than official royal decrees."

She leaned over the desk, her fox-like eyes narrowing into dangerous slits.

"Do you think if the Emperor wanted to ruin a general, he would just openly declare war and risk a bloody military rebellion? No. He just pinches the commoners and leads them by the nose using these so-called ’independent’ papers. No single noble has the wealth, the power, or the backing to touch these major printing houses. The only people capable of orchestrating a targeted, capital-wide, synchronized smear campaign against the Vanguard in a matter of hours... are the Emperor or the Empress themselves."

Heena sank back into her chair, the crushing reality of her situation settling heavily onto her shoulders.

"They are actively trying to destroy my reputation before I can even solidify my power," Heena muttered, staring blankly at the wooden grain of her desk. "Think about it. Why would the public ever accept a terrifying military general who is actually just an insecure, love-crazed maid who buys her husband’s affection? Why would the military follow an amnesiac servant?"

The System remained completely silent, realizing the true, lethal danger of the "Desperate Brick Wall" narrative. It wasn’t just a cheap insult to her femininity; it was a targeted, lethal strike at her martial credibility.

"If the public believes I am a joke, they will never accept me as the heir to the empire’s greatest military family," Heena said, her voice turning cold and bitter. "They will easily argue in the royal court that I possess absolutely no tactical sense, no fighting spirit, and no leadership capabilities. They are setting the stage to legally strip me of my title."

She closed her eyes, the phantom headache throbbing violently in her temples. The stress was actively warring with the soothing energy of the Aura Stone on her wrist.

"And the absolute worst part?" Heena whispered into the quiet, darkening study. "There are no major border wars going on right now. It is peacetime. I cannot even ride out to a battlefield, slaughter an enemy commander, and bring back his head to prove them wrong. I am trapped in a cage of ink and rumors, and the Emperor holds the key."

The tension in the quiet study grew so thick it could be cut with a sword.

This was exactly why she literally hated fighting the imperial family. She mostly wanted to avoid these types of high-level, psychological political wars. When dealing with brute-force generals or arrogant young nobles, she could just out-crazy them or hit them with a metaphorical brass carriage. But the royal family? These vipers were just too smart, too resourceful, and had far too much free time to plot.

Heena closed her eyes, taking a long, deep, stabilizing breath.

She opened her eyes, looked down at the blank documents piled on her desk, and reluctantly picked up her ink brush.

’Damn it,’ Heena cursed internally, her fingers awkwardly gripping the bamboo shaft.

Writing with a traditional ink brush was an absolute, unmitigated nightmare. In her past life, she could type a thousand words an hour on a glowing keyboard, or at the very least, scribble notes with a cheap, reliable ballpoint pen.
