The rain grew heavier.

"This won’t do. General Ling Tian and his men have fought for the common folk time and time again. We must go hold our umbrellas for them; we can’t let them get soaked," an old man holding an umbrella said as he stepped forward.

"That’s right! They risk life and limb for us on the battlefield. What’s wrong with us sheltering them from the rain?"

"Indeed."

Many people with umbrellas walked over, holding them up to shield Ling Tian and his Mansion Guards from the downpour.

Lu Baicha was among them. He was in his twenties, handsome and distinguished. As a member of the Bai Clan, he was naturally clad in white robes. He held a white umbrella and personally approached Ling Tian to shield him from the rain.

This was the first time Ling Tian had truly noticed the young man. With just a single glance, Ling Tian felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if he had seen him somewhere before.

Ling Tian was deeply grateful to these people for shielding him and his soldiers from the rain. However, he maintained a serious tone. "Everyone, please listen to me. This is a test from a senior. You mustn’t hold umbrellas for us. Otherwise, we will have failed."

Hearing this, Lu Baicha and the others stepped aside, allowing Ling Tian and his men to continue standing in the rain.

A single question lingered in their minds. What kind of senior could be so important that they could make someone like General Ling Tian wait in the rain just to prove his sincerity?

Ling Tian had risen from a common soldier to a king, despite not sharing the imperial surname. His reputation in the Xiuyuan Realm was second to none. Who, then, would dare make Ling Tian stand in the rain to test his sincerity? Just who was this formidable senior?

"Does anyone know who lives in this courtyard?" Lu Baicha’s curiosity got the better of him, and he began asking the people around him.

"No idea. I heard it was just bought yesterday."

"I know, I know!" a local ruffian, the gossipy type, piped up with a smile. "Madam Thirteen of the Flowers hired people like us to spread the word. This place is the Blood Refiners Guild."

"The Blood Refiners Guild?" Lu Baicha and the others were shocked. Blood Refiners... have a guild now? Could it be that someone has finally perfected the true Art of Blood Refinement? Has it actually succeeded?

Their curiosity piqued, Lu Baicha and the others remained, holding their umbrellas and waiting in the rain. They had to see for themselves what kind of person this senior who had mastered the Art of Blood Refinement truly was.

They waited like this for six hours. As evening arrived, the rain stopped and the sun peeked out, though it was already close to dusk. Puddles still dotted the road, and pedestrians walked with extra care to avoid slipping.

At that moment, someone suddenly cried out, "Look, the courtyard gate is opening!"

Sure enough, the gate of the courtyard opened with a slow CREAK!

Bo Gu and Meng Tian, both wearing Ghost Masks, walked out.

"Blood Refiners..." Staring at the masks worn by Bo Gu and Meng Tian, Lu Baicha and the others all thought of that title.

In the public’s eye, Blood Refiners were the very definition of daydreamers. They pursued an impossible goal with single-minded obsession. But now, it seemed the Art of Blood Refinement had actually succeeded. Even so, the impression Blood Refiners gave to Lu Baicha and the others was one of introversion. They seemed like rats: insecure and afraid to walk in the sunlight amongst the crowds.

Now, however, Bo Gu and Meng Tian looked at Ling Tian and simply smiled. "Little brother, you may enter now."

"Brother Ling Tian, you should thank the two of us for putting in a good word for you."

Their voices were full of confidence. This stunned Lu Baicha and the others. Had Blood Refiners ever dared to speak like that before? Absolutely not! A Blood Refiner wouldn’t dare raise their voice in front of others. Perhaps they only spoke loudly amongst themselves. They were extremely withdrawn.

But things were different now. As Lu Baicha and the others watched, they noted how these two Blood Refiners addressed Ling Tian: "little brother," "Brother Ling Tian."

Everyone thought Ling Tian should be furious. However, he wasn’t.

Instead, Ling Tian clasped his fists respectfully. "Many thanks, my two elder brothers. May I trouble you to lead this little brother of yours inside?"

"What?"

Lu Baicha and the others who witnessed this were utterly dumbfounded, wondering if they had misheard. A fearsome general like Ling Tian, known for his short temper with everyone except his own soldiers—would he speak to someone so politely? Is this really General Ling Tian? They felt a sense of bewildered frustration as they stared at him, doubting their own eyes.

Just then, Ling Tian ordered his Mansion Guards to remain outside while he alone followed Bo Gu and Meng Tian into the courtyard.

In the main hall, Ling Tian saw the figure of the Ancestor of Blood Refinement, who was wearing a Bronze Ghost Mask. He stood there with the terrifying and grim aura of a hell king, yet he also exuded the presence of a great conqueror that commanded submission.

Shaking himself from his stupor, Ling Tian immediately bowed toward the Ancestor of Blood Refinement. "Ling Tian pays his respects to you, Senior."

The Ancestor of Blood Refinement, who was none other than Wu Tian, chuckled. "I know all about your situation. You wish to understand the secret behind the strange phenomenon affecting your body. Wu Tian told you that you could either become his disciple or mine. Why did you come looking for me instead of him?"

Ling Tian was taken aback, not expecting this to be the senior’s first question. He answered without hesitation, "Senior, Mr. Wu Tian is incredibly powerful, but he is far too young. This general simply cannot bring himself to be so shameless as to ask to become his student. Senior, I can only implore you to accept me. I don’t wish to become a Blood Refiner; I only wish to be your humble disciple."

Meng Tian and Bo Gu stood quietly to the side, but upon hearing Ling Tian’s words, they had to fight the urge to laugh. They looked at Ling Tian with pity. Wu Tian and the Ancestor of Blood Refinement are the same person. What a priceless expression he’ll have when he finds out one day!

"Senior, my Mansion Guards and I must have offended you somehow for you to make us stand in the rain. May I ask if your anger has subsided?" Ling Tian asked cautiously.

"Making you stand in the rain was a punishment, but you also gained something from it, did you not?" the Ancestor of Blood Refinement shrugged.

Gained something? Hearing this, Ling Tian’s eyes widened. What could I possibly have gained? I’m soaked to the bone and might even catch a cold. Besides that, what gain could there be?

But Ling Tian dared not object and could only say, "Yes, I did gain something."

"Stop forcing yourself to say things you don’t mean," the Ancestor of Blood Refinement said, finding Ling Tian’s conflicted expression amusing. "You met a person of destiny outside."

"A person of destiny?" Ling Tian’s brow furrowed even deeper.

For most people, a "person of destiny" referred to a romantic partner. Ling Tian, a great general, was still a bachelor. He thought back but couldn’t recall interacting with any young women just now.

"Have you forgotten the young man in white who held an umbrella for you earlier?" the Ancestor of Blood Refinement chuckled. The moment Lu Baicha had appeared, Wu Tian’s Investiture of the Gods had reacted, letting him know that the destined connection between Lu Baicha and Ling Tian had arrived.

"He... he’s a man! How... how could he be my person of destiny?" Upon hearing this, Ling Tian’s face became a mixture of embarrassment and disgust.

Although Lu Baicha was fair-skinned and clean-featured, he was still a man. Ling Tian couldn’t even bear the thought that his person of destiny could be that man in white.
