The Ancestor of Blood Refinement went to read, leaving Peony bored.
Lady Song looked at Peony and smiled. "Come, let’s have some flower tea. The flower is a new species I cultivated. Tea brewed from it fully replenishes one’s vital energy, making one feel a hundred times more vigorous."
"Of course," Peony agreed, her curiosity piqued.
"Follow me." Lady Song took Peony’s hand and led her away.
"Please wait, my lady! I haven’t tasted your newly cultivated flower yet."
Song Shuiping was hesitant to spend too much time with Lady Song, fearing she would ask for something he couldn’t provide. However, the new flower species piqued his interest, so he hurriedly followed them.
Meanwhile, the Ancestor of Blood Refinement—Wu Tian—continued to read.
There was a vast collection of books, most of which were summaries describing which master had cultivated a particular flower, tree, or animal in a certain year, and what unique characteristics it possessed. For an ordinary person, reading through them would take at least a month, but Wu Tian simply scanned the pages, absorbing and remembering everything with perfect clarity.
Based on Song Shuiping’s tone, I thought I’d genuinely underestimated Cultivators. But after reading these books, I see I didn’t underestimate them at all. I possess the Ten Great Spirit Roots. With any single one of them, I could easily be hailed as the number one Cultivator in the world.
The Ten Great Spirit Roots, also known as the Ten Innate Spirit Roots, were species from the Mythical World. The most famous among them were the Pan Peach and the Ginsengfruit. The more common ones included the Green Lotus Seed and the Yellow Middle Plum. It could be said that all ten were extraordinary.
The weakest among them is the Immortal Apricot. Speaking of the Immortal Apricot, I can’t help but think of another person: Lei Zhenzi. He had a face as blue as indigo and hair like cinnabar. His eyes blazed, and his teeth jutted from his mouth. Standing two zhang tall, he possessed immense martial strength, with a pair of "wind" and "thunder" wings sprouting from his ribs. Wielding a gold staff, he was the hundredth son of King Wen of Zhou, Ji Chang, and a disciple of Cloud Child from the Chan Teachings. His combat record was ordinary, but he excelled at aerial combat and sieges. He was a prince of the Zhou Dynasty, a filial son, and blessed with deep fortune.
It must be said, however, that he wasn’t always so hideous. Raised by Cloud Child, he was once a handsome Taoist acolyte. His transformation was the result of eating an Immortal Apricot. He sprouted a pair of fleshy wings on his back and developed a monstrous appearance—so ugly and bizarrely frightening that even his own father, King Wen, was terrified upon first seeing him. The Immortal Apricot has the power to physically transform a person. Of course, all I have of the Immortal Apricot are the seeds.
Mass-produce Lei Zhenzis? That’s a matter for the future.
Wu Tian flipped his palm, revealing a Ginsengfruit. Seeds for the Ginsengfruit were also in the Heavenly Emperor’s Treasure House. This particular fruit, however, was one Wu Tian had obtained in the Underground World beneath Earth City.
It’s not that I’m a braggart. You’re just a frog in a well.
With a smile, Wu Tian left the tree hollow and strode confidently outside.
「In the pavilion」
"This flower tea is really delicious," Peony praised.
Lady Song nodded. "You’re no simple person either, to be accompanying the Ancestor of Blood Refinement. By the way, how old do you suppose the esteemed Ancestor is?"
Song Shuiping was also drinking the tea. Hearing his wife’s question, he thought to himself that the Ancestor of Blood Refinement, despite his black hair, must have an old, weathered face beneath that bronze mask. He’s just an old monster pretending to be young.
"I think he’s very young," Peony said, relying on her intuition. "He feels... less than thirty years old."
"What?" Lady Song and Song Shuiping were stunned. But since Peony had said it, what could they say?
"It seems the Ancestor of Blood Refinement is a young prodigy," Lady Song praised. A man like that is exactly what young girls adore. But alas, I am already a married woman.
Seeing the look on his wife’s face, Song Shuiping felt a pang of displeasure. He scoffed, "The Ancestor of Blood Refinement may be talented in the Art of Blood Refinement, but every craft requires specialization. To claim he’ll one day be the number one Cultivator in the world... Heh, becoming a Cultivator isn’t that simple.
"First, you have to consider seeds. Learning the knowledge is easy, but finding good seeds is hard. So, being a Cultivator isn’t just about talent; it’s about being fortunate enough to find them. He wants to be the number one Cultivator in the world? Heh, that’s far easier said than done."
Lady Song couldn’t help but agree. "Indeed, my husband is right. The knowledge is easy to learn, but good seeds are rare. It took me a very long time to find the remnant seed for this new flower, and I only succeeded by crossbreeding it with some existing varieties. Good seeds are truly hard to find."
Peony nodded in agreement. It seemed that being a Cultivator depended not only on one’s skill but also on luck and happening upon the right seeds. No wonder there were so few of them; there were only two in the entire Xiuyuan Realm’s guild.
"That Ancestor of Blood Refinement is reading right now, heh," Song Shuiping chuckled. "After reading those books, he’ll realize just how ridiculous his claim was."
Those books describe seeds that can grow into such miraculous fruit trees. Once the Ancestor of Blood Refinement reads about them, I guarantee he’ll see how foolish his own words were. His ambition to become the world’s number one Cultivator will seem utterly idiotic. Of this, Song Shuiping was absolutely certain.
「Meanwhile」
Wu Tian walked toward the pavilion, holding the Ginsengfruit. The fruit’s Spiritual Energy could no longer be contained, filling the air with the unique, fragrant aroma of a truly special fruit.
「Back in the pavilion」
Song Shuiping was saying, "My dear, your flower tea is excellent, but the seed I found this time is even more amazing. You wouldn’t believe it, it’s a seed for a fruit that..."
He trailed off, his body suddenly beginning to tremble uncontrollably. Lady Song and Peony looked over in alarm.
"My lord, what’s wrong?" Lady Song asked, rushing to his side with concern. Even though he had always been unable to satisfy her, leaving her in a constant state of frustration, he was still her husband.
"It’s... the fragrance of a fruit," he stammered, "and its Spiritual Energy!"
Her initial worry vanished when she saw his eyes light up, his face flushing with an excitement she hadn’t seen in years. He looked as if he had just found a legendary aphrodisiac capable of restoring his masculine vigor.
"A fruit? Is it one you cultivated?" Lady Song asked, her curiosity piqued. What kind of fruit could make my frail husband’s eyes suddenly burn with the light of a virile man?
"No, it’s not from a seed I cultivated! It’s a fruit I’ve never seen or smelled before... Heavens, a powerful Cultivator must have arrived, and they’ve brought their creation! Quickly, we must go and welcome this grandmaster among Cultivators!"
