"I...I choose the second option," Evangeline murmured, her voice breaking. "I will b-become the...sl—"

"Do you want to become the laughingstock of the Two Realms, Father?" Maximilian’s suppressed voice echoed before Evangeline could finish her words.

He slowly moved towards her, dragging his limp body using nothing but his hand.

"M-my Lord, please don’t move," Evangeline pleaded. "Your injuries will only get worse."

Maximilian ignored her pleas. Once he reached her, he pushed himself onto his knees, sitting opposite her.

"What do you mean, Maximilian?" the Sovereign demanded.

"If the daughter-in-law of the Almighty Sovereign, the conquerer the oceans, lands, and mountains, becomes a slave, the whole world will laugh at you."

The golden eyes of the dragon in the sky sharpened, shock evident within them.

"You mean..."

The Sovereign’s words stopped mid-sentence as Maximilian suddenly pulled out a glass bottle filled with shimmering black liquid from his storage pouch.

"Stop, you unfilial child!" the Sovereign commanded, increasing his Soulforce pressure on Maximilian severalfold.

Multiple bones in Maximilian’s body broke, yet he did not stop. He unsealed the bottle and emptied it’s content into his mouth.

With one hand, he grabbed Evangeline by the back of her head and pulled her forward. His lips met hers in a decisive moment as he pushed half of the liquid still in his mouth into hers.

Her blue eyes widened, her mind still processing what had just happened. She felt as though the whole world had stopped at that moment. The crushing pressure of the Sovereign, the eyes of the Six Divine Dragons upon them, and the pain from the countless wounds covering her body, none of them mattered anymore. Her mind melted beneath the warmth of Maximilian’s lips and the sweet liquid flowing into her mouth.

She slowly closed her eyes, tears trickling down her cheeks as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Even after there was no more liquid left to share, they remained in each other’s embrace for several more seconds.

When Maximilian finally parted his lips, a thin trail of saliva still connected them.

"I...I am sorry for the offence, Vivi," he whispered.

"My Lord," Evangeline whimpered, lowering her eyes in shame.

"Y-you accursed child, what have you done?" the Sovereign demanded as he reduced the pressure on the duo, his voice filled with annoyance and anger. He knew suppressing them with any more pressure was completely useless. If he increased it any further, they would simply be crushed to death.

"I just shared the Soulwine you gave me with Lady Evangeline," Maximilian replied, wiping his lips with a smug smile of victory. He grabbed her hand and declared in a loud, clear voice, "She is my wife now, the one who will rule the Two Realms alongside me. If anyone so much as lays a finger on her, I swear by the Heavens, I’ll rip their head off."

No one spoke a word. The whole of Valcyrion was stunned, eyes widened and lips parted. Even the Sovereign, who had given the Soulwine to Maximilian with the intention that he share it with his lover, never expected him to use it this way. Now, if he were to punish Evangeline, he would only mock his own legacy. The countless battles he had won and the lands he had conquered would amount to nothing if his own daughter-in-law were treated as a slave.

"Good... very good," the Sovereign muttered, his colossal golden eyes staring down at Maximilian. "Since you have made this decision, you will not escape the punishment for the harm you have caused to the heirs of the dragon clans."

"I never intended to escape it anyway," Maximilian replied with a shrug. He no longer cared now that he knew his father would not punish Evangeline.

"Fine then. For harming the future heads of the Dragon Clans, I exile you and Evangeline to the Riftlands. During this period of exile, you may go anywhere across the two realms. However, if you are spotted by any dragon during that time, your exile will be extended by ten years for every sighting. If you manage to remain hidden until you reach adulthood, you must face the dragon heirs from every clan to prove yourself worthy of the throne."

His declaration was laced with Soulforce, spreading throughout the entirety of Valcyrion.

A ripple of gasps followed.

Sending Maximilian and Evangeline, a dragon pair who had not even reached adulthood, to the Riftlands was as good as a death sentence. Even veteran dragons who had lived for centuries avoided that cursed land.

Some of the Divine Dragons seemed pleased by the Sovereign’s declaration. Surviving even a single day in the Riftlands would be a miracle. Even if Maximilian somehow escaped that place, the Divine Dragons would do everything in their power to locate him, ensuring his exile would be extended again and again, making it impossible for him to return in time for his Ascension to the throne.

Meanwhile, other dragons appeared far more troubled. The chances were slim, but if Maximilian actually survived the Riftlands, no dragon would be able to challenge him. He might even become more powerful than the current Almighty Sovereign, who was only half a step away from reaching the Realm of Immortality.

"I accept the punishment," Maximilian declared, showing neither remorse nor regret.

"I also accept the punishment," Evangeline added, although her voice was quiet and her face was etched with frustration and worry.

The colossal head of the dragon retreated into the dark clouds. They gradually scattered, revealing the bright blue sky of the new day.

The Divine Dragons appeared on the first floor of the tower, picked up the unconscious bodies of their children, and vanished into thin air just as they had appeared.

Only the Clan Head of the Zephyr Clan, the father of Arthur, remained behind. He stood before Arthur, who was leaning against the wall with his eyes closed.

"Stop acting, brat," Godfrey, Arthur’s father, muttered, kicking him lightly on the thigh. "I know you’re awake."

Arthur slowly opened his eyes and looked up at his father, his eyes brimming with tears.

"I am a terrible friend, Father," he murmured as tears trickled down his face.

"You would have been a terrible friend if you had tried to stand up for His Highness," Godfrey said calmly. "He beat you without using any of his Death Lightning to fool the other dragons into believing you were not his friend. He knew what fate awaited him because of his actions and did not want you to become an outcast as well."

After a brief sigh, he continued as he lifted Arthur from the ground, "If you truly wish to be worthy of his friendship, become strong enough to protect him rather than be the one who needs protecting."

Arthur glanced at Maximilian on the ground floor, who wore a faint smile despite the wounds covering his body, his eyes fixed on Evangeline.

"Yes, Father," he said, tightening his fists with renewed resolve.

The wings on Godfrey’s back spread open, and he vanished along with Arthur, leaving behind nothing but a burst of wind.
