Return to the City: The Strongest King

Chapter 1983 - 1870: Surrounded on All Sides (Part 2)

It was evident that the Dark Night Sect intended to fish in troubled waters, sneaking an attack behind their backs as gunfire erupted nearby.

Four people clambered ashore, drenched, to see Song Xiaodong, Lin Feng, Sun Yiyi, and Chu Xianling standing in a row, waiting for the four to prepare themselves.

The eldest among them, Elder Ian, had a head full of white hair and wore night clothes, with a military dagger strapped on his back; Elder Ivan, slightly younger, had grayish-white hair styled in a Mediterranean manner, with a large beard, donned similar attire and carried dual swords on his back; Elder Julio, in his prime, was stout and muscular, with a buzz cut, carried nothing, his hands wrapped in black bandages; Elder Anya had golden curls, typical Western white features with a tall bridge nose and blue eyes, an impressive build with muscular thighs, and wore knuckle dusters.

"Mr. Song is exceptionally astute, my respects." Elder Ian observed Song Xiaodong and the others calmly waiting onshore, realizing they were already alert, but facing four opponents, the outcome was uncertain, and he didn't want to appear weak either.

Speaking in Mandarin, Elder Ian's Dark Night Sect originated in China; after their base was destroyed in conflicts decades ago, their mainland heritage was severed, and remnants followed Chang Kaishen to Treasure Island Coils.

Later, when Chang Kaishen lost control of Coils, the unprotected Dark Night Sect turned to the West, where straightforward, wealthy people showed great interest in mysterious Eastern Mystic Gate Taoist Methods. Consequently, the sect expanded in the West, with many elders being Westerners who, under Chinese tutelage, spoke fluent Mandarin.

"I've stayed off the sea for just two days, and you couldn't wait?" Song Xiaodong chewed his gum, tilted his head, and asked Elder Ian.

"I am Ian, here under orders to claim Mr. Song's head."

"Bah!" Song Xiaodong spat his gum onto the sand.

"I've been pondering my birth parents lately. Today's opportune, I'll use your blood to offer them spirit sacrifices in heaven!"

"Then let's see your skills, Mr. Song!"

The two sides immediately engaged in battle, Song Xiaodong faced Ian, Lin Feng took on Ivan, Sun Yiyi opposed Julio, and Chu Xianling fought against Anya.

Instantly, the calm beach transformed into a perilous battlefield; Elder Ian, not holding back, swung his military dagger, sending a cold light slashing toward Song Xiaodong. Calm-faced, Song Xiaodong sidestepped evasively, kicked up sand with his foot, causing Ian to tilt his head to avoid it and see Song Xiaodong's hands already clutching his dagger-gripping hand, aiming to seize the weapon. Ian swiftly retreated, denying Song Xiaodong success, then steadied himself, raising his dagger to slash at Song Xiaodong. Song Xiaodong flicked his sleeve, revealing an extendable baton, blocking the dagger, and the two entered a stalemate, exchanging weapon blows.

With Lin Feng, Ivan wielded dual swords in a series of powerful, fierce maneuvers. Lin Feng noted that it was likely martial arts passed from the mainland. Unreservedly, Lin Feng revealed a flexible blade from his belt like a nimble snake, weaving gracefully between Ivan's swords, dazzling him, rendering a victor elusive for the time being.

Sun Yiyi battled bare-handed against similarly bare-handed Julio. Sun Yiyi's True Qi was immensely pure, granting her immense strength, while Julio was robust; their fists collided audibly, as Julio, a master of Three Meridians True Qi, maintained for a while but inevitably, he would fall behind against Sun Yiyi over time.

Chu Xianling likewise bare-handed, was disadvantaged fighting Anya with knuckle dusters; as their fists met, Chu Xianling's hands swelled bright red. Adapting cleverly, Chu Xianling switched styles to close combat, denying Anya space for big punches, avoiding direct blows, while Anya nimbly maneuvered, seeking attack openings, both resembling an eagle chasing a chick, locked in a deadlock.

Song Xiaodong, versed in diverse combat techniques, battled Elder Ian for a while, who, failing to prevail quickly, feared delays. Consciously exploiting full potential, Ian bit his tongue, spat blood onto his dagger, which emitted a ghostly green glow akin to that encountered with the bald monk in South Sudan. Examining closely, Song Xiaodong saw these were words, their language unknown.

Song Xiaodong distinctly felt the dagger change, seemingly alive, exuding a cold, dangerous aura like a snake, prompting him to focus intently, cautiously evading the dagger's edge, blocking with his baton only to find the green glow was liquid. The blade, though intercepted, spilled its luminous green substance, which instantly burned holes through Song Xiaodong's clothing.

"Mr. Song, my blade, my master named it Green Scale." Ian ogled his blade proudly, swung it at Song Xiaodong, poised dangerously. Yet he hadn't intended to slash Song Xiaodong but aimed to scald with venom.

Aware of Ian's strategy, Song Xiaodong swiftly retreated to safety and shed his jacket, shrouding head and torso. After several exchanges, his garment was eroded, leaving only sleeves, one gripped as Song Xiaodong stared blankly.
