Richest Rag-picker

Chapter 481 - 453: What Time Are We Leaving Tomorrow?

Bai Menghan nodded. Feeling a little weak, she tried to sit up, intending to go with Fang Chenyi.

"It's all your fault for wearing me out for so long. But at this hour, Mom and Dad probably aren't back yet. They usually get home around ten."

Ever since Fang Chenyi had reassigned the group's companies to them, everyone had become much busier.

However, just as she pushed herself up, she was overcome with a wave of weakness. Seeing this, Fang Chenyi, who was beside her, quickly helped her lie back down. 'I must have been too rough just now,' he thought.

With Bai Menghan in this state, how could he have the heart to take her with him? He gave her a light kiss on the forehead and said:

"Okay, okay, don't move. I'll just head over by myself. You get some sleep. I'll be back soon."

Bai Menghan was indeed exhausted, so hearing Fang Chenyi's words, she just nodded and obediently stayed in bed under the covers.

In stark contrast to Bai Menghan's exhaustion, Fang Chenyi was brimming with energy.

He sprang out of bed, found his clothes, and got dressed. After gently closing the door behind him, he turned and headed downstairs.

Fang Chenyi walked out the front door of his villa and strode directly toward Villa Number One.

However, when he reached the entrance of Villa Number One, he saw that the lights inside were off.

Just then, the ROAR of an engine suddenly echoed from behind him, followed by a sweep of headlights.

He turned to look and saw it was his dad's car.

The car quickly pulled up to the entrance of Villa Number One. Father Fang and Mrs. Fang got out. Seeing their son standing at the door, the couple froze for a moment. Then, his mother hurried over.

"You little rascal, you're finally back! I was starting to think you'd forgotten the way home, always running around out there. Come inside, quickly. You haven't eaten, have you? Mom will whip something up for you. Oh? Where's Menghan?"

After a few words, his mother started looking around for her daughter-in-law.

Hearing his mom ask for Menghan, Fang Chenyi couldn't help but blush.

But his mother seemed to sense something. She glanced at her son and didn't press the matter.

At that moment, his father also walked over, giving his son a concerned look from top to bottom. However, unlike Mrs. Fang, he didn't complain about how long his son had been away. Instead, he chided his wife a little.

"What does a woman know? This is the prime time for our son to build his career. If he doesn't go out and work now, should he just stay home all day? That's enough. Go on and make some dumplings for him."

Mrs. Fang shot Father Fang an annoyed look. She opened her mouth to retort but said nothing. Turning, she opened the door and headed to the kitchen to make dumplings for her son.

Although his parents looked a little travel-worn, their faces were brimming with energy. It was clear they were very satisfied with their current jobs and leading fulfilling lives.

Seeing his wife go inside to make dumplings, Mr. Fang walked into the villa with his son and asked:

"Are you leaving again soon?"

Fang Chenyi scratched his head in embarrassment.

"I do, actually. I have to leave tomorrow morning. This trip will probably take over a month."

Hearing this, Father Fang simply nodded. "Be safe," was all he said.

"How are things, Dad? Is everything at the company going smoothly?"

Fang Chenyi seemed to have hit on a topic that interested his father. His dad's face lit up with excitement, and he began to tell Fang Chenyi all about the company, talking nonstop.

11:00 PM.

After eating dumplings at his parents' house, Fang Chenyi grabbed a portion for his wife and headed back to his own villa.

When he got back to their room, Fang Chenyi saw that his wife was still awake. He walked over with the dumplings, a look of loving concern on his face.

"Why are you still awake? It's so late."

Bai Menghan simply smiled at him.

"I was waiting for you. I can't sleep until you're back. Hmm? Something smells amazing. Is that... dumplings?"

Watching Bai Menghan wiggle her nose as she sniffed the air, Fang Chenyi walked over, gently tapped her on the nose, and handed her the dumplings.

"Here. Our mom insisted I bring these for you."

Bai Menghan took the dumplings and began to dig in. "Hee hee, our mom is the best."

And she really was hungry. She polished off several dumplings in quick succession. Seeing this, Fang Chenyi quickly poured her a glass of warm water, repeatedly telling her to slow down.

Watching Menghan enjoying her food, he wanted to tell her that he was leaving again tomorrow morning, but he found he couldn't bring himself to say the words.

'Forget it. I'll tell her after she's done eating.'

However, before Fang Chenyi could say anything, Bai Menghan spoke up mid-meal. She swallowed the dumpling she was chewing, looked up at Fang Chenyi, and said with a smile:

"What time do you leave tomorrow morning? How long will you be gone? Why don't I come with you?"

Fang Chenyi was taken aback. "How did you know?"

Bai Menghan gave Fang Chenyi an exasperated look.

"I overheard the crew talking about it, of course. Right when we got off the ship, I heard some of them discussing it behind us. It's just that after we got home, you were busy... wearing me out, so I completely forgot. But seeing you hesitate just now reminded me."

Fang Chenyi finally understood. 'So she heard it from the crew. No wonder.'

"It'll probably be at least a month. It could be longer if things don't go smoothly. But you shouldn't come. This journey is going to be tough, and I wouldn't feel at ease bringing you with me."

Bai Menghan swallowed the dumpling in her mouth and looked at Fang Chenyi with determination in her eyes.

"Do you think I can't handle a little hardship?"

But Fang Chenyi just waved his hand.

"It's not that. The main reason is that I'm going to the Taklamakan Desert. You know what the environment is like there. We'll definitely lose all signal. You should stay home. Besides, all our family's companies need you here to manage them."

Hearing this, Bai Menghan's brow furrowed. "You're going to the Taklamakan Desert? Then... then you have to be extra careful. I've heard the desert can be very dangerous. Please, be safe."

Bai Menghan didn't ask why he was going to the desert. She knew Fang Chenyi must have his reasons.

Perhaps it was the impending separation, but it was destined to be another "sleepless" night...
