It was as if the Water Spirit Pearl's sole purpose was for this trip to the desert to search for the asteroid.
Fang Chenyi was gradually starting to understand the system. It seemed that every reward it gave him was purposeful.
Moreover, it seemed to be able to predict what would happen next every single time.
The more time passed, the stronger this feeling grew for Fang Chenyi. It was as if everything was being secretly orchestrated.
Feeling the air in his lungs dwindling, he had no idea how much longer it would take to swim to the surface.
Or perhaps his direction was completely wrong to begin with.
'Instead of swimming upward, I'm actually swimming downward.'
Fang Chenyi didn't dare delay any longer. It was a desperate situation calling for a desperate measure. He immediately reached for his chest.
'I might not be able to see, but I can feel for it.'
He quickly pulled his clothes open. Inside a pocket, his fingers found the Water Spirit Pearl.
The moment he took the Water Spirit Pearl out and held it in his hand, Fang Chenyi felt the coolness before him intensify. Clearly, this was the pearl's effect.
After a moment's hesitation, he opened his mouth and shoved the Water Spirit Pearl inside.
He had just been thinking that there was no way he could swallow something the size of a fist. But the next moment, as the Water Spirit Pearl entered his mouth, Fang Chenyi felt a cool stream of liquid slide past his tongue. It flowed down his throat and, a moment later, settled in his abdomen.
At the same time, the awful, suffocating feeling vanished completely.
Not only that, but Fang Chenyi discovered he no longer needed to breathe!
In his current situation, this was an incredible, wonderful surprise!
The Water Spirit Pearl protected his entire body, so he didn't fear the scorching temperature. Plus, he could now survive normally without even needing to breathe!
'Finding that asteroid is now just a matter of time.'
Freed from his previous worries, Fang Chenyi immediately resumed his search.
This time, he didn't swim about randomly. Instead, he locked onto one direction and swam with all his might.
Time ticked by. Finally, with a thick SLOSH, Fang Chenyi's head popped out of the magma.
"Fuck! Are you fucking kidding me?"
Staring at the magma below, Fang Chenyi was at a loss for words.
Clearly, he must have been going in the right direction before, but then he'd locked onto the complete opposite direction and swum all the way back up from the depths.
"Dammit. If I hadn't turned back, I bet I would've found that asteroid by now."
But complaining was pointless. What he needed to do now was hurry up and head back down.
However, to avoid a repeat of what just happened, this time Fang Chenyi didn't plunge directly back into the magma. Instead, he swam toward its edge.
Reaching the very edge, he felt along the hard surface beside him and began to climb straight down.
Five meters, ten meters, fifty meters.
Fang Chenyi descended little by little as time ticked away.
Finally, after climbing for an unknown amount of time, a faint patch of grayish-black appeared within Fang Chenyi's otherwise orange-red field of vision.
Not only that, but Fang Chenyi could also feel the magma in front of him churning more violently than it had been higher up. It was roiling nonstop, just like boiling water.
This made Fang Chenyi's heart leap with joy. 'Clearly, I must be getting closer and closer to that asteroid.'
He dug his hands firmly into the stone wall beside him. That's right, a stone wall. Perhaps due to the intense heat, the original sand had been fused into an incredibly hard surface.
Using all his strength, he pulled himself little by little toward the faintly visible grayish-black area ahead.
As Fang Chenyi drew closer to the grayish-black area, the surrounding magma churned with increasing intensity. It reached a point where he felt that if he weren't gripping the rock wall for dear life, he would have been swept away by the currents.
Ten meters, five meters.
Suddenly, Fang Chenyi's vision changed—the orange-red glow was gone.
He blinked in surprise and looked all around.
He saw that the roiling magma was now behind him. Before him was an expanse of azure blue.
He paddled gently with his hand a couple of times; Fang Chenyi was certain it was also a liquid.
And at the very center of this liquid mass was an enormous, grayish-black rock, dozens of meters across.
Seeing this, Fang Chenyi had no time to wonder why there was a water-like liquid here. Instead, he just cursed out loud:
"Fuck. Don't tell me this is the asteroid! How the hell am I supposed to carry this? It won't even fit in my woven bag's storage space!"
Fang Chenyi's woven bag only had ten cubic meters of storage space. This massive rock, on the other hand, was roughly thirty to fifty meters wide by his estimation. Even if he completely emptied his bag, there was no way it would fit.
He glided through the liquid, moving closer to the enormous rock.
When he got up close, he reached out and touched the mirror-smooth surface of the rock. Fang Chenyi felt a massive headache coming on.
The weight was a secondary issue. Given a fulcrum, his Garbage Tongs could probably lift the entire planet. The problem was its sheer volume. It was simply too big. 'What am I supposed to do?'
As his head throbbed, he examined the asteroid before him. At the same time, a question arose in his mind. 'What's this thing even for?'
Fang Chenyi really couldn't figure it out. Why on earth did the system want him to recycle this thing? What was the use?
'Wait, that's it—recycle! Right! I'll just pick it up, toss it in the woven bag, and recycle it directly. Wouldn't that work?'
Fang Chenyi suddenly slapped his forehead. He'd been in such a panic that he'd only been thinking about how to carry it away. 'Even though my woven bag's storage space can't hold something this big, can't I just toss it in as junk to be recycled?'
At this thought, Fang Chenyi couldn't help but feel a little smug. 'Man, I'm brilliant.'
To think it was to do it—that had always been Fang Chenyi's guiding principle.
So, he reached inside his clothes and pulled out the leather pouch that held the woven bag.
But before he could even take out the woven bag, the system's voice suddenly rang out in his mind again.
[Inappropriate action by Host detected. System advisory: This asteroid cannot be recycled!]
The notification made Fang Chenyi, who was in the middle of opening the pouch, freeze. At the same time, he began cursing up a storm in his mind:
'What the fuck, System, what kind of game are you playing? If you won't let me recycle it, how am I supposed to get it out of here? C'mon, you tell me! How do I get it out?'
