Rising Shards

It was finally time for the big mat ball game. To be honest, I kind of wanted to just get it over with. I couldn't even get excited about any potential butt squeeze type situation with Stella, as the schools decided students could see this, so the stands in the gymnasium were filled with students from Rising Shards, Falling Shards, and Wildfire Hearts. All my students getting to see my prowess with sports, or lack thereof. I found myself standing by Zeta and her friends, as Zeta waved me over as soon as she spotted me.

"Just remember," Zeta said. "Uh, what did they do at that mat ball game we went to? They kicked the ball a lot."

"We only lasted about fifteen minutes there, but I'll do my best to remember anything I can from it." I said.

"Yeah!" Zeta said.

"The important thing is that you have fun," Oka said. "Kalei, got any tips for Dr. Diast? You're quite the sporty type."

Kalei looked like she was mentally building a list of things she was going to roast me about later, so I wasn't anticipating her having any good advice. "They couldn't give you guys like teacher gym clothes?" She asked.

"No, they decided the regular ones were fine for us," I said. "Are you excited to see your mom play?"

"Not really," Kalei said. "But she'll probably whip you guys into shape."

"She put us through the ringer at practice," I said.

"Not surprising, we did some charity game where we were playing one of those parachute games, and she went out and bought one for us and made me practice in our backyard for hours." Kalei said.

"I wanna play a parachute game," Zeta sighed wistfully. "I always liked those when I was little."

"I sure wish this was a parachute game," I said. Mahina was gesturing for her team to join her, so I had to leave my canon daughter and her friends. Mahina had us all huddle up. Stella smiled at me from across the huddle, and I had my hundredth time being impressed at her ability to continuously give me butterflies even after we'd been together for months.

"Is everyone ready?" Mahina asked. "If you say no, I'll have us do some warmup laps to shake the nerves off."

That got us all to say we were ready.

Our rival team was late though, so we could have gotten in some laps if we really wanted to. A few minutes later, the Wildfire Hearts class arrived, with a sleepy Kitty Kilander leading the way.

"I slept in," Kitty whined. "Because someone forgot they're supposed to be my alarm!"

"I thought I didn't have to be your alarm on Tuesdays," Corinani said.

"You should be my alarm every day!" Kitty said as Corinani scampered over to our team.

"Sure am excited that y'all let me join your little team," Corinani said. I had kind of forgotten she'd been added to our side. Caya didn't have as warm a greeting for Ms. Corinani as she had for us.

"If you do anything out of line, I will make you regret it," Caya said. "And on that note, if anyone cheats," she stared at Kitty. "There will be consequences."

"I don't need to cheat to beat you," Kitty grinned.

"Now we really have to win," Mahina said.

"Agreed." Caya said.

The two were taking this seriously enough that they didn't even argue about who would kick first, quickly deciding on Pippi. I waited in line behind Stella, finding myself very tempted to grab her butt again. I restrained myself though, but I hoped we could at least meet up on one of the mats and chat even if we weren't having any fun sneakiness during our game.
