The first 'date' for Pippi got us off on a real interesting foot. Not a great one, as Pippi got matched with a lady that was big into mold. I thought she'd be a winner, because Pippi could geek out about the most random topics, but the two started arguing about mold taxonomy and wrecked things immediately.
Part of being a good wingman is hyping up your friend to others, but another part was knowing when someone isn't right for your friend, too, so I subtly tried to get them to move on before time was up. Once mold lady left, Pippi sat in the camping chair with her arms crossed.
"I'm off my game today, Stella," Pippi said.
"Kay, that one wasn't on you, that chick was...not your type."
"No, she totally was my type, I wanna talk about mold for hours with someone!" Pippi said.
"Well, someone who's less...aggressive about it, maybe?" I said.
"Maybe," Pippi said.
I stifled a laugh.
"What?" Pippi said.
"That's the exact same face you made before you went on that nerdy girl tangent last time," I said.
"Ugh, don't remind me, you always remind me as if I'd ever forget that!" Pippi said.
"You were going on and on, and you were totally justified don't get me wrong,"
"Stella, I remember!" Pippi said.
"But you just kept getting louder and louder, until you practically yelled out, 'I just want someone nerdy who wants to fuck!' And then everyone around stopped and looked at you."
"I said don't remind me!" Pippi said, but she was laughing now too.
"You got so many matches that day, though," I said.
"And they were all jerks!" Pippi said. "Well, except for Bev, and I did get laid, but then Bev turned out to be a jerk later."
I did get pretty jealous that Pippi had more success at these than I did. Granted, that success was one night of sex with someone who broke things off a few weeks later, but that was more than I ever got out of these. I always made sure to tell Pippi that too whenever I roasted her about her outburst. Our friendship had a healthy amount of roasts and support.
"So...maybe time to yell out about wanting to get laid again?" I suggested.
"No way," Pippi said. Her arms were still crossed. She contorted her face like she was betraying her anger for laughing and pouted again.
"Would you say the nerdy type is still what you're going for?" I asked.
"I guess!"
Pippi pouted until the buzzer went off for the next pairing to start. A woman in high tech glasses came up to Pippi next, clicking them which made almost laser-y sounds.
"Scanning complete," the woman said, grinning and raising her eyebrows. "And oh yeah, we got a grade A hottie here."
Normally I'd stop this one right in its tracks, but I recognized the woman, and Pippi did too. It was Alix Corinani, a teacher from school. She didn't seem like a bad person, but she was really annoying, and was always getting into messes. So at the very least, this matchup with Pippi could be very entertaining.
