Rising Shards

I was used to sleeping in strange beds from my tours promoting my books and my various other odd jobs, looking up at crackly hotel ceilings, not exactly feeling homesick but longing for something else. I was less used to spending nights romantically in anyone's bed, as I usually got kicked out or told the downstairs couch was good enough when I had my various dalliances. So Pippi offering to let me stay the night was strange. I still wasn't quite used to any of the points she was nice to me yet.

Pippi's bed wasn't the biggest like she said, but as we spooned, with me as the big spoon and her curled up in front of me, it felt perfect.

Also perfect was us dating now! We both agreed to it, while also giving ourselves some leeway if we realized over the next few days that we didn't want this at all. We both doubted it'd come to that point, but it was always good to have backup plans ready.

I squirmed, peeking over at the nightstand where our phones were charging.

"What's up?" Pippi asked sleepily. "Arm falling asleep?"

"No...just..." I fidgeted some more, excitement building. "I wanna update all my relationship statuses, you know?"

"Oh," Pippi said dreamily. "Yeah, I gotta too, huh?"

"I also wanna....how to put it..." I said.

"I might fall asleep soon if you wanted more, just a heads up," Pippi yawned.

"Er...well, I'm more thinking I wanna brag about you to someone," I said.

"Oh? Got someone in mind?" Pippi asked.

"I don't know, actually," I said. "I just...am really amped up right now."

"You gonna tell someone how good I was in bed?" Pippi teased.

"More just excitement about finally getting a girlfriend, but if you want..." I said.

"I trust that you'll be discreet," Pippi said. "That's a hint to not talk about us fucking, maybe just brag about the girlfriend part right now. Shit, I should tell Stella we're official..."

Pippi reached over for our phones, handing mine to me. We both sat up, laughing to each other as we updated our statuses, then bragged a bit, reading what we were sending out loud. Pippi let Stella know we were officially together, and I sent out some "Guess what?" messages to a random assortment in my contacts list. Kitty didn't respond, Mahina sent some gifs and memes about how late it was before actually asking me what was up, and Evy responded, "Stella's right by me so I have a pretty good guess as to what you're gonna say." I was surprised I still had Snowglobe's contact info, so I sent her a message, getting something back asking who sent this. It had been a while so maybe she changed her number and I was telling a complete stranger about my new girlfriend. Juggling twelve conversations at once was a bit much, but I was so happy that I didn't even care.

I maybe should have cared a little bit though.

"Oh...oops..." I said.

"What's up?" Pippi asked.

I tried to email myself the picture of Pippi and I cuddling together, and somehow ended up texting that to Kitty.
