"So." Kitty said. "What are you telling her?"
Kitty said that just as I crept forward, waving to Evy, making some kind of gesture that I hoped conveyed me asking if she was alright. Kitty saw Evy looking my way and turned around. She looked so different without all her usual make up on. Running into your boss while getting embarrassing Cani shapeshifting pills is one thing, but when your boss is also a former pop star, it added a new layer of surrealness to the proceedings.
"Um...am I interrupting?" I asked.
"I'm not sure," Evy said. "If you are, we can just step out, I don't want to get in the middle of..."
Kitty growled, which froze Evy in her tracks. Maybe I should also note that Kitty was also a former governor of Haven, the state built entirely on wrestling and brawling and junk like that, so she was tough too, even if she didn't look particularly intimidating on her own.
"I just wanna check if Alix's dumb ass blabbed about some stuff," Kitty said. "I actually don't care if she did blab about them, but I'd rather know than not know, you know?"
"I suppose," Evy said.
I inched forward, sitting down by Evy. Alix pressed her fingertips together. "All I really said was I had a triple threat this weekend."
"I see," Kitty said.
"And I wouldn't just tell anyone about that, these are the friends I went on vacation with!" Alix said. "So I'd tell them and Mahina, probably. And that's it. Well, and Pippi too, but I wouldn't really need to tell her as she'd be there."
I wondered if Pippi had actually somehow gotten a date with Kitty. If that was the case I was a bit concerned about her moving too fast with the polycule thing, but I also knew she was an adult and could make her own decisions.
"Yeah, triple threat means they're hanging out with me," Kitty said, just confirming that out of the blue. "There, you heard it from me, so you're off the hook."
"Er...thanks," Alix said.
"Alright, I got stuff to do," Kitty said, picking up her basket that was mostly filled with junk food. "Namely snacking off the day. Later."
"See you Saturday!" Alix waved as Kitty was already gone.
I wasn't really sure what to say now.
"So Stel and I have to go, too," Evy said, thankfully answering before I started interrogating Alix about how things with Pippi were going. There'd be time for that later, in hopefully a less awkward place.
"Right, there's a duck race later at the park I want to go see, so I gotta go too," Alix said. "Have fun with the dick stuff!"
I was too red in the face to say anything about how loudly Alix belted that one out until we were in the car. Really, until we were driving out of the lot and on the road I wasn't sure what to say.
"I didn't just blab about our business, obviously," Evy said. "She more looked at my bag and guessed it. I tried to get her to not guess things about someone at a pharmacy, but that woman is a wrecking ball in a conversation."
"I'll say," I said. "Pippi seems to love that, though. And maybe Kitty does, too, in her way..."
"Well, as long as it works for them," Evy said. "How'd your appointment go?"
I was happy to move on from the subject of Alix, Kitty, and Pippi for now. "Pretty good! Got my stuff." I patted the plastic bag. "Wait, did we both need to get these?"
Evy shrugged, leaning forward as she drove. "Might...might be fun if we...each get a turn."
"God, you're so fucking cute," I laughed.
"What?" Evy laughed too.
"This is just cute! You want this bad, huh?" I said.
"Yeah..." Evy said, the tone of someone being completely read like a book.
"Well, I'm free all night if you wanna try right when we get home." I said.
Evy looked very pleased by that idea.
