Rising Shards

Iris led Maia around the girls' dorm, tugging on her shirt sleeve.

"Come on, it's like we have this whole place to ourselves!"

They weren't entirely alone, there were still fellow classmates scattered about, just all their friends were out visiting the big city. Maia didn't look as excited as Iris felt.

"Kay, what is it?" Iris asked, putting her hands on her hips.

"I've seen like three prefects already," Maia said.

"So?"

"If we get caught, they're gonna make us move into different rooms." Maia said. "I'm down for this like risky thing you're into right now, but. Let's kinda be careful a little bit maybe?"

"That I'm into? Don't make it sound like you're not also enjoying our enhanced B.F.S. experience." Iris said.

"I am, for sure, just...what are you even thinking we're gonna do right now?" Maia asked.

"I was thinking I could..." Iris trailed off. "I thought we'd go to one of those computer lab spots and I dunno, I'd sit on your lap and take it from there?"

Iris pouted, torn between wanting Maia to be less worried about what they were doing and admitting that she did kind of have a point.

"Now I feel stupid," Iris said.

"C'mon, don't say that," Maia said. "We can figure this out, I just don't want to do this in front of like, Naomi, or someone else who'd split us up right away. All I'm saying is something a bit more careful. Compromises are like, cool and stuff, we could do that."

"Huh," Iris said. "What do you suggest?"

"If I suggest anything, we can't just do it because I said it," Maia said. "A compromise is something between the uh, yeah."

"The whole me thing and you thing, uh huh, uh huh," Iris said. She and Maia were on the same wavelength to the point both could probably speak complete nonsense to each other and still understand everything. "So I want something fun and exciting for our B.F.S. and you want..."

"Still fun and exciting!" Maia said. "Just...something with a backup plan, maybe? We already got caught at that job for Corinani. I just want to make sure we don't get caught by someone where it'd bite us in the ass later."

"I getcha, you can be one cautious cookie, you know that?" Iris tried to pinch Maia's cheeks but got swatted away.

"What if we still go to the computer lab...and keep a lookout or something? I dunno."

"Now that I think about it though, the computer lab has those desk type things that are way too close to the chair, we wouldn't have a lot of room." Iris said.

"We could go to one of those study nook deals," Maia said. "Those are pretty far away from danger."

"That makes them sound boring though," Iris said. "What if we went outside?"

"It's winter, though," Maia said.

"And not super cold tonight!" Iris said.

"Have you even been outside today?" Maia asked.

"No, but when I imagine it in my head, it's very nice out." Iris said.

Maia thought it over, one of her ears twitching. "It's late afternoon, so there might be less prefects out, but the night guard might be starting. But it would be easier to avoid people outside."

"Yeah, yeah!" Iris said. "Do you think that configures us into enough of a compromise?"

"I don't know if that makes any sense, but I think I get what you mean," Maia said.

"You better," Iris said.

Iris reached out to grab Maia's sleeve again, but Maia was reaching out at the same time. She barely noticed that the two were holding hands the entire way outside. The two darted around to a side of the dorm building that seemed suitable for B.F.S. time. Before Iris could even say anything, Maia pinned her to the wall, kissing her like she'd been waiting years for this moment even if they'd just made out plenty earlier in the day.

"It actually is pretty cold out," Iris said between kisses.

"Then let me warm you up," Maia said, her eyes hungry for more.

The two were so lost in the kisses that followed that the world around them almost faded away. So much so that they didn't even hear the crunch of footsteps in snow of someone passing by until the person near them let out a loud yelp. Maia broke the kiss immediately, her fur poofing up as she turned around slowly. Iris leaned to the side of a poofed up Maia to see Zeta Faleur staring at them in shock.
