Chapter 894: Chapter 879

Inside the classroom.

The air was thick with a pungent stench; Xu Renjie swept his gaze over and saw two corpses slumped over the chairs.

The blood had long dried into a dark brown, but the chaotic footprints and scattered desks and chairs on the floor still revealed the chaos and bloodshed that had occurred here.

Following Derek, Xu Renjie, and Lei Tong arrived at the classroom door.

As soon as they reached the entrance, they heard the scraping sound of footsteps in the corridor outside.

"How is it, are there many zombies outside?" Xu Renjie couldn’t help but frown upon hearing the footsteps.

Considering all their effort, it would be very frustrating if the creatures sealed the door here.

Derek shook his head, "Not too many, probably around twenty or so."

Twenty or so... Xu Renjie eased up, his mind rapidly calculating.

From their current position, this classroom was the only place they could use.

If they could hold the door, killing the zombies shouldn’t be a problem.

Experience is always accumulated in battle; Xu Renjie quickly found a relatively reliable method to kill the enemy from past experiences.

"So, Lei, you go move a few tables to this position. Derek, you stay behind the door. I’ll open the door a crack later to lure the creatures; your job is to maintain the gap size..." Old Xu paused, spread his hands to show a "head-length" distance, and then continued:

"This gap size will be perfect. I’ll use it to kill the zombies one by one! Understand?"

The saying "one man holds the pass against the multitude" is the essence of Old Xu’s strategy.

Of course, using the wooden classroom door to hold back a multitude is obviously impossible, but dealing with twenty creatures shouldn’t be much of a problem.

"Understood!" Soldiers live by following orders, especially those from Sharp Blade Company.

Lei Tong nodded without hesitation, then turned to prepare to move the tables and chairs.

However, unexpectedly for both Xu Renjie and Lei Tong, Derek, who had always adhered to instructions, raised an objection at this crucial moment.

"Wait!" Derek reached out and grabbed Lei Tong’s arm.

Xu Renjie glared, clearly displeased with the young man’s actions at this moment.

"What are you doing?" Lei Tong bluntly rebuked.

Derek was somewhat helpless, but given the circumstances, he knew speaking more would be fruitless, so he went straight to the point: "There’s no need to kill them; if we alarm the creatures on other floors, it will be trouble."

Slightly taken aback, Old Xu relaxed his tightly furrowed brows a bit after hearing this.

The young man was right; killing the zombies outside might not be difficult.

But it’s hard to ensure silence during the process, and if more zombies are attracted, it would indeed, as the young man said, lead to a situation not worth the outcome.

Old Xu was reasonable and, realizing his oversight, immediately consulted Derek, considering the young man had frequented the school, he might have unique strategies for avoidance, so...

"Then what do you suggest we do now? How can we pass through the buildings guarded by zombies?"

Old Xu’s concession gave Derek a slight relief; he really feared if this person was like those idiotic Japanese students inside, who only vent their emotions and can’t accept dissenting opinions.

Derek didn’t directly respond to Xu Renjie but went directly to the podium, bent down to pick up some things from the floor, then returned to the door, opened his palm, and showed it to Xu and Lei.

"Chalk!? What are you doing with these?" Lei Tong’s eyes were as big as brass bells, clearly unable to understand Derek’s purpose: "You’re not thinking of throwing these at the creatures, are you?"

Compared to Lei Tong’s confusion, Xu Renjie immediately understood the young man’s intention when he saw the items in his hand.

"You plan to create a diversion?"

A simple and calm sentence, but it left Derek stunned: "How do you know I want to use sound to distract the creatures?"

Realizing his mistake, Derek quickly supplemented: "Uh... what I mean is..."

"Enough! No more nonsense! Get moving!" Having confirmed the young man’s intent and deemed it feasible, Xu Renjie was in no mood for chit-chat.

After all, their mission here was to save people, and there were brothers waiting in the street.

Old Xu didn’t want their idle talk to waste time and risk the brothers outside.

Nodding, Derek had mostly figured out the man before him during their journey.

This man was decisive, steadfast, acted swiftly, and never wasted time.

Beyond that, what scared Derek the most was he still didn’t know what the man was truly capable of.

What kind of energy was hidden within his not-so-bulky frame!

Xu Renjie made way for Derek, giving the young man enough space to maneuver.

Meanwhile, he and Lei Tong guarded each side of the door frame, ready to fight at any moment.

Once Derek got into position, he reached for the door lock and, after lightly twisting it, the lock made a "click" noise.

This sound, usually insignificant, was quite jarring within the silent teaching building.

Indeed, before long came the sound of knocking on the classroom door.

Xu Renjie immediately braced against the door.

Luckily, the creatures’ movements weren’t overly aggressive, but even so, it still sent a chill down their spines.

Five minutes, maybe longer, Old Xu and the others were like enchanted statues, not daring to move, keeping still and even slowing their breathing, fearing that any slip might alert the creatures outside to gather and attack.

After about ten minutes, the persistent creature seemed to lose interest and, after a lengthy knock, finally gave up banging on the door, wandering off in search of a new target.

"Whew!" Hearing the zombies’ footsteps grow distant, Xu, Derek, and Lei all breathed long sighs of relief.

Thankfully, other creatures didn’t follow through; otherwise...

Old Xu dared not think further, but judging by the situation caused by the door lock noise, he felt Derek’s next move should be reliable.

After waiting another five minutes, and once entirely sure the zombies had gone, Old Xu signaled Derek could proceed.

Upon getting the nod, Derek tightened his grip on the chalk, then gestured to Xu and Lei, signaling he was ready to act.

"Three, two, one!"

As soon as the countdown ended, Derek swung open the door, and with force propelled the chalk forward, launching them like missiles towards the building’s front, where they landed, shattered, and made cracking sounds.

Then, the second, third pieces were thrown successively; to ensure the maximum attraction of zombies, Derek tossed five pieces of chalk before stopping. (To be continued.
