Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 975 - 960: Corpse Diversion Operation (8)

Chapter 975: Chapter 960: Corpse Diversion Operation (8)

Old Xu’s words were undoubtedly a shot in the arm for the somewhat crestfallen members of the action squad.

Even though his words were more comforting than factual, as the saying goes, there are different times and circumstances. In times of crisis, even a lie, as long as it can give people strength, will be instinctively accepted.

"Alright, Old Xu! You guys also hurry up and get ready. Wait for my signal, and we’ll act together. Over!"

"Understood! Over!"

Exhaling, Old Lin slowly put down the hand-held radio, as Tang Xiaoquan timely handed over a bottle of mineral water.

He was very aware of the pressure Old Lin was under at this moment, even though he was not directly involved in the frontline action.

But as the highest commander coordinating the entire operation, the pressure he endured was beyond the understanding of others.

"Thank you!" Old Lin accepted the mineral water handed over by the young man. Yet he didn’t drink it, not for lack of thirst, but because he truly had no mood for anything else until the factory sent back definite news.

After all, the task of the Fifth Squad was the most crucial step in the entire action plan.

If they failed, not only would it mean the mission itself was over, but Luo Baochun, Li Guo; even Wang Zhongyu, who had just escaped and was waiting for pickup, would be in danger.

Lin Junfu did his best to stay calm, not wanting his anxiety to affect the team members.

But the invisible pressure pushed him like a mountain, making him gasp for air.

Tang Xiaoquan noticed Lin Junfu’s unusual small gestures. He wanted to say something, but his once nimble brain was now frozen, unsure of what to say.

The waiting slowly continued as torture ticked by minute after minute; several times, Old Lin couldn’t resist wanting to call Luo Baochun.

Yet, rationality ultimately stopped him from doing so.

After all, with the other party now surrounded by a wave of zombies, any slight movement might push them to an irretrievable disaster.

Old Lin definitely didn’t want his reckless actions to lead Luo Baochun and Li Zhong into a zombie siege. His right hand clutching the hand-held radio involuntarily tightened, the whitened knuckles showing the unrest within him.

The zombie wave continued to savagely rampage at the factory.

Divided into several rushing streams, the "zombie wave" continuously attacked the various factory buildings within the premises.

Thankfully, the factory was large enough; otherwise, an ordinary factory might not have accommodated this horde of zombies.

Never had time felt so slow; Li Zhong felt like every second was a year.

It was undoubtedly the longest period he had ever lived through. If he could, he’d even exchange years of future life for the quick passage of this time.

But regrettably, the world offered no such exchange service, leaving Li Zhong with nothing to do but wait.

Fortunately, the wait proved worthwhile; the zombies kept performing according to the survivors’ planned script.

The factory’s built-in high-powered sound system, combined with the various additional speakers installed by the "Zhong" and "Guo" brothers.

The sound effects at the factory now could not quite rival Vienna**, but were at least as good as any underground bar atmosphere.

Under the absolute ear-splitting "heavy metal" music drive, the zombies swayed their bodies in rhythm.

Among them, a few adaptive, evolved zombies either crawled or jumped excitedly.

It’s unknown exactly how much time passed; anyhow, with the noise from the factory and the zombies’ movements nearly numbing, Luo Baochun suddenly felt the car shaking less violently.

With alarm, he straightened up, only to find Li Zhong beside him looking dazed, clearly terrified.

But at the moment, he had no time to bother with the other person; he had more important matters to confirm.

Cautiously moving to the window, Luo Baochun swallowed nervously, gently lifting a corner of the black curtain that draped over the side window.

Only after taking a few deep breaths did he summon enough courage to create a small gap in the curtain.

Through the gap, Luo Baochun peered outside.

Where his eyes fell was empty; aside from a few sparse dead trees in the distance, there was nothing else.

The disappearance of the zombies undoubtedly offered some relief to Luo Baochun’s tense mood.

As his mind settled, his courage, which had been compressed to the extreme by fear, finally began to revive.

Moving his fingers, Luo Baochun now targeted the front windshield, lowering the window.

Again gently lifting a corner of the curtain, he craned his neck in an absurd pose to glance outside, once again seeing no sign of the zombies.

The result was undoubtedly exhilarating.

Now only one last window needed confirming; Luo Baochun side-eyed Li Zhong, stunned and seemingly lost.

Given the improving situation, Luo Baochun dispelled the thought of calling out to Li Zhong. He stretched across the passenger seat and casually lifted the curtain.

Considering the "safe and sound" results of the prior confirmations, Luo Baochun was noticeably more "bold" this time.

But what he didn’t anticipate... was almost as soon as he lifted the curtain a restless zombie head appeared at the window, moving from side to side.

That’s what’s called being happy yet sad.

With no zombie-handling experience, Luo Baochun clearly overlooked related survival laws.

He relaxed his vigilance by self-awareness against the massive zombie army of the zombie wave.

This near suicidal behavior was absolutely fatal. Luo Baochun would indeed pay for his laxity.

Like an electric shock, Luo Baochun swiftly withdrew his arm, shivering like a leaf as he settled back in his seat.

His fierce reaction caught Li Zhong’s attention, fortuitously bringing him back to normal with Luo Baochun’s anomaly.

"Wha—what’s wrong, Little Luo?"

Facing Li Zhong’s inquiry, Luo Baochun said nothing, but fearfully raised a trembling finger, pointing to the left side window.

Li Zhong instantly understood what he meant, his newly calm mind shaken again.

So the two sat frozen, their souls seemingly lost.

Having dazedly sat for over three minutes, it was once again Luo Baochun who reacted first.

The anticipated "storm" didn’t arrive, so Luo Baochun carefully recollected the fleeting scene he had glimpsed earlier.

Hiss... no, that didn’t seem like a zombie face... looks like...

Holy cow! Relieved once realizing he had seen the back of a zombie’s head, Luo Baochun exhaled a long breath.

But to ensure the operation was foolproof, he still gathered his courage, once again stretching across to the passenger seat.

This time, having learned from previous mistakes, Luo Baochun’s actions were noticeably more cautious.

He first opened a slit in the curtain, and after confirming no anomalies, dared to continue widening the gap.

Once the gap extended to one centimeter wide, Luo Baochun could see the full panorama outside the left side of the car.

Great! All zombies were drawn into the factory.

Suppressing his excitement, Luo Baochun casually glanced at the rearview mirror, ensuring no oversight behind the car, then quickly sat back, slapping Li Guo’s thigh with a laugh...
