"YOU ENJOY ’feelings,’ don’t you?" Neoma asked the Ancient Devil while leaning against the chair, crossing her arms over her chest. "That’s exactly why I don’t think you’d be able to handle heartbreak."

"You’re cruel, Princess Neoma," the Ancient Devil complained. "You’re already assuming that I’ll have my heart broken."

"Once I fake my feelings for you, you’ll only realize that you can never win me over. I can already see you losing your mind from pain, loneliness, and anger. You’re the type who has to get what he wants, so I bet you won’t be satisfied with an unrequited love. You’ll do everything just to own me, which will bring you despair because it won’t happen— not in this lifetime, not in the next. Before you know it, you’ve already lost your mind."

"Now you’re just cursing me. How do you explain heartbreak that well, Princess Neoma?"

"Well, I’ve been heartbroken once."

Rubin Drayton, Neoma’s first love, had broken her heart in the past.

It was only once, and yet she couldn’t forget how miserable she had felt back then.

Thankfully, she would never experience a devastating one-sided love again.

"I assure you, Mr. Fossil— you won’t be able to handle me breaking your heart in the most painful way possible," Neoma said, shrugging. "So, let’s drop the honey trap method and just negotiate— like the proper adults that we are."

"Ah, but negotiating with you and the new Devil is tricky," the Ancient Devil said, raising an eyebrow. "After all, you two managed to trick Helstor into signing a contract that bound him to the Upper World."

"Hey, the contract was fair and square," Trevor said unapologetically. And, yes, the Sorcerer was being shameless. "It wasn’t our fault that Helstor didn’t read the contract properly. The clause that bounds him to the Upper World has always been there. It’s not like we added it after he signed the contract."

"Ah, you mean the tiny clause that not even a god like Helstor could notice?"

Both Neoma and Trevor just shrugged.

Oh goodness, we’re really the shameless duo.

"Anyway, I’ll be making a new contract with Helstor soon," Neoma said, changing the topic. "If you want to use the Black Ocean to threaten me or whatever, then join Helstor’s side and negotiate with me later."

The Ancient Devil furrowed his brows. "You talk as if we’re already done talking here."

"Oh, we are. I’m tired of looking at your face."

When Neoma got up from his seat, Lewis immediately pulled the chair for her.

The Ancient Devil also stood up and tried to go after Neoma, but Trevor blocked his way.

Moreover...

COUGH.

The Ancient Devil suddenly coughed up blood— black blood, to be precise.

Huh?

Neoma looked at Trevor suspiciously.

"I was wondering when the poison would take effect," Trevor said, his voice full of delight. "Don’t worry— I haven’t concocted a poison that could kill you yet, so you’ll live. You’ll be in pain for at least a week, though."

Aigoo.

Neoma didn’t tell Trevor to do that, but there was no way she would throw him under the bus.

Hence, she shot the Ancient Devil a cold look.

"Consider that as payment for hurting Charlotte," Neoma said while turning her back on the Ancient Devil. "See you later."

"WHAT are you doing here, you insolent princess?"

Neoma smiled at Drystan’s grumpy greeting.

It seemed like the King of Hell was upset again.

But...

"What did I do this time?"

Drystan, who was buried with mountains of paperwork on the table, ignored her.

It was Iris, the King of Hell’s right-hand (wo)man, who answered Neoma’s question.

"My liege is just upset because there have been several attempts to inflitrate Hell because of Trevor Kesser’s stay here. We were able to drive them away, but that means more work for us."

Ah.

Neoma turned to Trevor. "Hey, chingu. Apologize."

Trevor looked at her in disbelief. "But, my Moon Princess, it was you who told me to sleep here—"

"Ahem."

Trevor immediately turned to Drystan and bowed his head.

Well, it was in a mocking way.

But, at least, the Sorcerer bowed his head and faked his sincerity.

"I apologize for the trouble I’ve caused, sir."

Neoma then looked at Drystan, smiling. "Trevor already apologized, so stop being petty already, Your Majesty."

Drystan let out a sigh, and then he finally looked up at Neoma. "What do you need? Trevor is already awake, you may return in the living world now."

"I just wanted to see you before I leave."

"Again, what do you need from me?"

"Do you think I only came here because I needed something from you?"

"What do you think?"

"Yes, you’re totally right," Neoma said, snapping her fingers. After that, a chair made of her Mana appeared in front of Drystan’s table. Lewis pulled it for her before she sat down. "Don’t worry, I don’t need anything grand. I just have a question about the contract that we made before."

When she ’died’ before, she made a deal with Drystan.

In exchange for helping her get revived, she had to save the world.

And that was the problem.

"What about our contract?"

Neoma looked over her shoulder and addressed Lewis, Esther, Aspen, and Faust. "Please leave the room for a moment."

Of course, as her Contractor, Trevor had to stay there.

Thankfully, Lewis and the others didn’t make a fuss. Just bowing their heads politely before leaving the office quietly.

Now the adults get to talk.

"Saving the world this time proves to be harder than it was the first time," Neoma said in a serious tone when she faced Drystan again. "The Ancient Devil absorbed the Black Ocean. The world won’t even last 24 hours if he released that as continous heavy rainfall."

"So I’ve heard. But is that something that you can’t stop?"

"You think I can stop a flood that great?"

"Yes."

Wow.

Neoma was stunned by Drystan’s complete faith in her.

Wait, is it really faith, though?

"I don’t think your pride would allow you to lose."

Ah.

Neoma couldn’t help but laugh at Drystan’s answer.

"Am I wrong, though?"

"I don’t have the heart to say ’no’ anymore. But let me ask you a question."

Drystan let out a sigh before leaning against his seat. "Alright. Ask away."

"What counts as saving the world?" Neoma asked, tilting her head to one side. "How big of the human population has to stay alive for it to be considered a successful mission?"

***

WELL, it’s time to go home for now.

Neoma looked at Esther, Aspen, and Faust, who were waiting outside Drystan’s office with Lewis. "Will you return with us? Or do you have you own portal to use? Since the Ancient Devil would be out of commission for at least a few days, you don’t have to follow me around."

The three looked at each other as if communicating.

In the end, it was Esther who acted like the group’s spokesperson.

"We will return using our own method, Princess Neoma. And we’ll know if the Ancient Devil appears near you. We will be there for you as soon as it happens."

"Ah, I see," Neoma said, nodding. "Thank you, then."

Esther, Aspen, and Faust bowed their heads politely before leaving.

"It’s time for us to return as well," Neoma said, stretching her arms. "Where’s Gin?"

"I sent him back first," Trevor said. "You won’t need that cat anymore since I’m already here, my Moon Princess. Are we heading to the palace now?"

"Yep," Neoma answered, glancing at Lewis. "It’s about time I face the Silver Foxes properly. Should I train them the way I trained you before?"

Lewis beamed, and then he nodded enthusiastically. "Please, Princess Neoma."

***

WHEN Neoma returned to her residence in the Imperial Palace with Lewis and Trevor, she didn’t expect the "entourage" waiting for her.

Mama Boss.

Papa Boss.

Nero.

And even Hanna.

Judging by the way everyone was looking at her coldly...

Ah, I forgot to tell them that I was leaving the palace for a moment.

"I’m sorry I didn’t let you know in advance, but I just made a quick visit to Hell to fetch Trevor—"

"The Ancient Devil "visited" the Imperial Palace, House Quinzel, and Duchess Hanna Quinzel at the same time. That bastard was looking for you," Nero said coldly, cutting her off. "According to Duchess Quinzel, she heard the Ancient Devil say that he had found you. So, did you encounter the Ancient Devil during your short trip to Hell?"

"Yeah, I met the Ancient Devil," Neoma said. And since she was already caught, she had no choice but to spill the beans. "He threatened me with the Black Ocean. But, of course, I didn’t budge. So, don’t worry too much, everyone. Everything will be settled once we start negotiating with Helstor later."

Judging by how silent everyone was, it was clear that no one was happy with her explanation.

"Okay, I’m really sorry about disappearing without informing you," Neoma said, bowing her head. "It won’t happen again."
