Chapter 33: Chapter 32: A New Function Appears

Lin Feng’s head throbbed as he watched the clamoring women. Just as he was trying to figure out how to solve the problem, his mother walked over.

"You two can’t even handle a simple thing like this. Is recruitment information something you should be telling people in advance? This isn’t the city; it’s not like everyone here has plenty of other jobs. You’ve turned a good thing into a disaster."

"Mom, Mom, you’re definitely the most capable person in this family. You’re the best at handling this sort of thing."

Liu Chunyan shot her son a glare and walked toward the crowd. Even though she had moved to the county town long ago, she still knew most of these people.

A conflict that seemed impossible to resolve was quickly defused through his mother’s mediation, and the crowd was persuaded to leave.

"Mom, you’re amazing!"

"Amazing? What’s so amazing? It was a simple matter to begin with. It’s not like every single one of them is truly idle. Don’t they have kids to watch at home? Children to pick up from school?"

Lin Feng paused for a moment. ’She’s right,’ he thought. Many of them had probably just heard the news and came to see what the commotion was about.

The jobs here were for a full day, with employees only able to go home in the evening. People who needed to take care of their families certainly wouldn’t be able to do it.

"The people your father chose are good. They all come from families with good character."

"Of course. My dad did his research. I can’t hire anyone with a bad character."

They would be interacting with tourists, after all. If any arguments or fights broke out, it would be a disaster.

At noon, Lin Feng called the selected individuals and told them to come over in the afternoon to sign their contracts. He was waiting to complete a quest, after all.

Lin Feng watched the group of professors eating lunch, his expression tensing up again. The relaxed mood from the morning was completely gone, and he even lost his appetite for the fragrant meatballs.

"Hu Xia, what’s going on?"

Hu Xia was fiddling with her phone, checking the results of last night’s "battle." She was in a great mood.

The people who had insulted and slandered her were now wailing all over the internet, begging for forgiveness and posting all sorts of apologies.

That "Professor" Guan Jian, although he hadn’t broken any laws, had his identity exposed. He wasn’t a university professor at all, just a physics teacher at some private institution.

Stripped of his fabricated persona, all the "classic" statements he’d made in the past were also dug up by netizens, and he was now facing a severe backlash.

"When they arrived this morning, it seems they’d made a small discovery last night. But after studying it for half the day, they realized it has nothing to do with the Arrow Towers."

"What kind of discovery?"

"Something about the magnetic field here being a little abnormal. I didn’t really understand the details. Here, look at the results from last night. These people are just masochists!"

Lin Feng was still wondering if the magnetic field anomaly was related to the Village Construction Order. Hearing her, he glanced at her phone screen.

"This many? There must be over a hundred people here, right?"

"These are the ones whose offenses were serious enough to land them in jail for a few days. The ones who didn’t do enough to get detained all posted apology videos online."

The internet really wasn’t a lawless place. As long as you had the time and money, you could actually get people thrown in jail.

It was just that ordinary people didn’t have the time and money for it. Pursuing legal action for such matters was simply too much of a hassle.

Just then, Professor Niu Yaozu from Hua University came over. "Boss Lin, about those Arrow Towers... can we really dismantle them?"

"Hello, Professor Niu. Yes, you can dismantle them, but you can’t take them all apart. And you have to help me rebuild them when you’re done."

"Of course we won’t take them all down. We’ll definitely rebuild any we dismantle. We still need to run experiments, after all."

With Lin Feng’s approval, Professor Niu’s mood visibly brightened. He then asked about the environment and conditions surrounding Lin Xian Village.

His main line of questioning was about whether there were any other strange or unusual places in the vicinity.

That afternoon, a group of people began dismantling a nearby Arrow Tower. The Village Construction Order continuously sent him warnings, notifying him that a village structure was under attack.

When the Arrow Tower was completely destroyed, Lin Feng was surprised to discover that a new function had appeared: the ability to cancel a building’s special effects.

At the same time, the materials from the two destroyed Arrow Towers, along with the telescopes that had been installed in them, reappeared in his building materials panel.

’A new function! If I hadn’t allowed a building to be destroyed, would this have ever appeared?’

The instructions for the Village Construction Order were minimal and felt incomplete, so he could only learn its features slowly through trial and error.

While they were busy testing and recording data, Lin Feng returned to the village pavilion to study the new function.

The function seemed a bit strange. He could now directly cancel the special effects of any of his buildings, and he could even retract the Village Construction Order itself.

The appearance of this new function gave him much more flexibility. He no longer had to worry about someone trying to take over Lin Xian Village.

Even if someone got any funny ideas, he could simply retract the Village Construction Order and find a new location to start over.

’It seems like I triggered a hidden function by not preventing the Arrow Towers from being destroyed.’

In any case, this was good news. At least now he had an exit strategy and no longer had to worry about someone trying to seize Lin Xian Village through trickery.

"Brother Lin! Brother Lin! The tourists are here!"

Hu Zhiming shouted as he ran, thrilled by the arrival of the tourists.

"So they’re here. You seem a little too excited."

"Of course I’m happy! After we posted the video last night, there was still a bunch of stubborn people claiming we were working with Hua University to fake the whole thing."

Lin Feng asked in surprise, "After everything that happened online last night, people still dare to spread rumors?"

"They wouldn’t dare spread outright rumors anymore. The things they post are ambiguous, so there’s nothing we can do about them."

"So you want the tourists to come and shoot videos to prove it’s real?"

"Exactly! If we have enough videos from tourists, let’s see how those guys try to argue then!"

Seeing his excited expression, Lin Feng held his tongue. The kid clearly didn’t understand that you could never convince internet trolls. It was like trying to reason with an idiot—a complete waste of time.

At the main entrance to Lin Xian Village, two sedans pulled up. The people who got out looked around curiously.

They were all locals from the surrounding area; the farthest among them had come from Jiangcheng, which was only a two or three-hour drive away.

They had seen the videos online and had come today specifically for the Arrow Towers and astronomical telescopes.

A girl walking at the front of the group remarked, "This place is more remote than I thought. You couldn’t really tell from the video."

"Yeah, if I weren’t so curious about the Arrow Towers, I wouldn’t have come all the way out here."

The four men following behind, however, weren’t bothered. As avid fishermen, they had been to places far more remote than this.

As long as there were fish, they would find a way there, even if it meant carving out a path themselves.

"The environment’s not bad, it just hasn’t been fully developed yet."

"Let’s go. Time to see if this is real or not."

The group of seven entered Lin Xian Village just as Lin Feng and Hu Zhiming were walking over to greet them.

"Are you all here for a tour?"

"Hello, Boss Lin! Hello, Young Master Hu! We’re from the area around Jiangcheng City. We saw the video and wanted to come see the amazing Arrow Towers and astronomical telescopes for ourselves. How much do you charge?"

Lin Feng froze for a moment at the mention of a fee. He hadn’t actually priced these two attractions yet.

"We aren’t officially open yet. Since you’re our very first visitors, consider this an early-access preview. It’s free of charge."

"You’re too generous, Boss Lin! We’d like to see the Arrow Towers first, and then check out the astronomical telescopes tonight."

Hu Zhiming quickly jumped in, "This way! I’ll take you there!"

Hearing that tourists had arrived, everyone in the village was delighted. This proved that Lin Xian Village could genuinely become a tourist destination.

Even Li Bing from the TV station, who was still on-site, brought her crew over to film the arrival of the first seven tourists when she heard the news.
