S-Rank Harem: I Became My Character with Extra Control Skill
Chapter 317: FlightRyan thought Lise's words made a lot of sense; she had even mentioned it after they formed the blank pact.
The infernal twins quickly began whispering among themselves, as did the demon blacksmiths. Unlike Ryan's group, being demons, they knew more about how pacts with dragons worked.
Beatrice and Karol also looked thoughtful.
Helen and Mirian were eagerly waiting for what Ryan might say.
"Will I sprout wings to fly?" Ryan asked mockingly. He knew that no new usable skills had appeared in his system, and he clearly remembered that when Lise and Ivis flew in their human forms, they had a pair of wings on their backs.
Before Ryan could get an answer, Karol tried to reply, but Beatrice beat her to it.
"I don't think you'll grow wings. Even though Lise makes it sound so easy, it's very complicated to master a dragon's power as if it were your own," the infernal demon stated with a somewhat worried tone.
Roly and Poly nodded in agreement, and Beatrice didn't stop there.
"Even Lady Ophelia, I don't think she fully masters Ivis's or Janina's power," Beatrice added, looking at the infernal twins.
"That's true, but Lady Ophelia is very powerful; she doesn't need to rely on a dragon's magic," Roly added confidently.
"So powerful that Rigal trapped her in a bottle and turned her into a dwarf," Helen mocked.
"Hey! That was only because Rigal was a cheater; my Lady Ophelia is very strong," Poly intervened, and Roly backed him up.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Helen added.
"Hey, leave them alone already," Mirian intervened.
And before any more useless arguments could start, Lise stepped forward.
"Young master, you won't grow wings. A dragon's ability to fly doesn't depend on them. We use our wings just to avoid wasting energy unnecessarily."
"So is it similar to how Karol does it with her magic?" Mirian asked curiously.
"No. It's certainly impressive that humans can fly even though their technique doesn't rely on the system," Lise commented, though she found it a bit difficult to praise humans.
"Her ability doesn't depend on the system to fly?" Helen asked, looking at Karol. Up until now, they had all benefited from Karol's flight magic, but they had never wondered how she actually used it.
"That's right. What Lise says is true," Karol said, hovering about two feet off the ground. "I actually use the wind, although it's not a huge mystery, nor is it a specific flight technique. It's simply a great mastery of elemental power; even Chloe can do it," she said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Yes, you might be right, but that's human ingenuity—using everything within your reach, modifying it, and adapting it to your needs. It's not something just anyone can do, mainly because not everyone has the control required to pull it off," Lise intervened. Then she added, "Anyway, I believe my young master is fully capable of achieving it."
When she said those last words, everyone's gaze fixed intensely on Ryan. A drop of sweat rolled down his cheek, and he offered a slightly forced smile.
'Could you guys not set your expectations so high?' Ryan thought, looking at them. Then he closed his eyes and focused on what flying truly entailed.
'From Lise's perspective, flying would be like breathing—something completely natural for her. And from Karol's perspective, flying is simply the magical control of the wind. I'd say for Karol, it's like flying a drone with a remote control, except she's the drone and the remote control at the same time.'
With that in mind, Ryan understood that if what Lise said was completely true, he could fly like Karol by manipulating the wind. However, he currently didn't feel capable of doing that, much less being as efficient as Karol.
Keeping in mind that, in theory, he might be able to fly using those two methods, the most optimal one would be the one Lise proposed. He didn't need to treat himself like a drone. He just needed to follow Lise's logic to achieve it.
So Ryan opened his eyes and looked directly at Lise. She was looking at him without a single trace of doubt in her eyes. She completely trusted that Ryan could do it if he really wanted to.
It was in that moment that Ryan understood that using a dragon's power as if it were his own wasn't a matter of giving orders, dominating, or subjugating.
'It's about total trust between master and beast, isn't it?'
With that in mind, Ryan smiled, and his body instantly rose at least four meters off the ground, leaving everyone present completely astonished.
It didn't take them long to start whispering among themselves. But Karol was the boldest; overcome with excitement, she flew up even higher, hugged Ryan in the air, and kissed him for everyone to see.
Supposedly, for demon kings who have pacts with dragons, learning to use their power takes years, and some never even manage to do it at all.
But Ryan had accomplished something that was too difficult even for demon kings, despite having established a pact with Lise just a few days ago.
The demon blacksmiths approached Runa and Mika, telling them they finally understood why this human was so special that he had even captivated their queen, Ophelia.
In the eyes of the demon blacksmiths and the infernal twins, Ryan was now some sort of all-powerful human with abilities and capabilities whose limits were hard to even calculate.
Because of the impression Ryan left on them, the twins began whispering to each other that they wouldn't make him mad again. If Ryan wanted to, he could shatter them to pieces in an instant.
This prompted teasing smiles from Mika and Runa, implying that Ryan, besides being incredibly skilled, was quite the ladies' man.
At that comment, Helen immediately complained and ordered them to get to work instead of wasting time standing around.
Ryan stayed in the air a bit longer to assimilate his new capabilities. Then he slowly descended to the ground and was congratulated by Lise, who was visibly blushing deeply.
Noticing her expression, he also realized that he was losing energy; it was the exact same sensation he felt when Karol absorbed his mana.
But Karol wasn't touching him anymore.
'Now I understand. To use a dragon's power, I also share my own with Lise. I mean, for her, this is feeding, right? I thought she was being very reckless by forming a blank contract with me, but... did she really do it assuming I'd be able to use her abilities?'
Despite having a new capability, Ryan decided not to use it and had Lise transform into a dragon anyway. But before leaving, he left a few instructions.
He wanted them to find Alisa, Alicia's younger sister, so she could also join the blacksmiths' work.
'Alisa in particular complains about being overworked. I guess I'll have to think of some kind of reward for her, since she's very different from Runa and Mika.'
With that in mind, Lise took off at full speed with Ryan and Beatrice on her back.
