Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings
Chapter 252: The Morning After The StormNicholas’s POV
The chains came off at five in the morning.
Callum did it without being asked, he moved through the room quietly and removed the ankles chains first then the wrists.
Nicholas sat with his arms free and his back against the stone, he didn’t move immediately, because his body needed that few minutes to re-calibrate.
Years of full moons and it was always the same. The aftermath sitting heavier than the night itself, the way everything felt slightly too bright and too loud in the first minutes after the moon.
He looked at his brothers.
Sebastian was already on his feet. Moving slowly and rolling his shoulders, he turned to look at the window where the sky had shifted from black to the deep grey that came just before dawn.
He still had Lilith’s underwear in his hand.
He looked down at it briefly then he tucked it back into his pocket without a word.
Nicholas turned to look at Lucian.
Lucian was sitting exactly where he had been for the last four hours. Back against the stone. Hands in his lap where the chains had been, his eyes still fixed on the floor in front of him.
Finn was still beside him, he had not moved from his position once through the entire night.
"Lucian," Nicholas called out.
Lucian looked up.
His eyes were back to it original color, The gold was clear and present and looked tired in a way that had nothing to do with sleep.
"I am fine," Lucian said.
"Good," Nicholas replied, then he stood up.
His legs were stiff from the stone floor. He didn’t acknowledge it, He Just moved to the door and waited while Callum unlocked it and pushed it open.
***
The corridor outside was grey with early morning light.
Somewhere above them the estate was waking up.
He didn’t tell his brothers where he was going to as he made his way upstairs alone.
The estate was quiet at this hour.
The pack had come back from the clearing hours ago, he had heard them through the stone wall, and now everything was back to normal.
He went up two floors, down the corridor and stopped outside her door.
Callum’s man, a young warrior named Dex who had been standing at the door for eight hours without complaint, He straightened when he saw Nicholas coming.
Nicholas looked at him.
"Anything?" he asked.
"She came to the door around two," Dex said. "And i told her everything was fine, then she went back to bed." He paused. "She didn’t sound like she believed me."
Nicholas looked at the door.
"Get some rest," he said. "I’ll take it from here."
Dex nodded and walked away down the corridor.
Nicholas stood outside the door alone.
He could feel her through the bond, and he could feel that she was currently awake.
He knocked twice and the door opened immediately.
Lilith stood there in her sleep clothes looking at him with eyes that still looked sleepy.
She looked at his face and he could see how worried she looked.
"You came to the door?" he asked.
"I heard the howls," she said. "I felt....." She stopped. Pressed her fingers briefly to her mark. "I felt something through the bond. I did not know what it was. I just felt like something was happening."
Nicholas looked at her hand on her mark.
"Something was happening," he said.
"Are you all right?" she asked.
Nicholas looked into her eyes, then he shook his head and said "Yes, we are okay now"
She looked at him for a long time, and she could see just how stressed he was.
"Come in," she said.
"Lilith...." Nicholas started declining.
"Nicholas." She stepped back from the door. "Come inside"
He nodded and entered her room, moved to the bed and sat on the edge of the bed.
She sat in the chair across from him and pulled her knees up and waited.
Nicholas looked at his hands. Then he told her everything that happened.
"Lucian almost went under," he said.
Lilith said nothing. Just listened.
"The chain on his right wrist cracked," he said. "Finn held him, and i talked him back." He paused. "but It took a while."
"Is he okay?" she asked
"He will be. He is tired." Nicholas looked up. "But he is himself."
She nodded slowly.
"What about Sebastian?" she asked.
"Sebastian managed," he said.
Lilith looked at him. "And you?" she asked,
Nicholas was quiet for a moment.
"Kael held," he said. "The bond helped. More than I expected." He held her gaze. "You helped. Even from up here. Even asleep."
Lilith looked at him for a long time, at the exhaustion sitting in every line of him, at his silver eyes that were tired in a way she had not seen before.
She got up from the chair, crossed to where he was sitting on the bed and sat beside him.
He turned his head and looked at her.
She reached out and put her hand over his and his fingers turned and closed around hers immediately.
"Thank you," she said quietly.
"For what?" he asked
"You chained yourself," she said. "Voluntarily. For me."
Nicholas looked at their hands.
"Yes," he said.
"That is not nothing Nicholas." she said and gripped his hand.
He didn’t say anything, he just nodded his head.
She looked at his profile. "Stay," she said. "Sleep. Just for a few hours."
"Lilith i don’t think that is a good idea" Nicholas said.
"You are exhausted," she said simply. "And I can see that you need to sleep, so stay for while.."
He looked at her, then he lay back on her bed and she moved to lay down beside him.
His arm came around her waist and he pressed his face into her hair.
She felt him exhale.
Long and slow and completely unguarded.
She closed her eyes.
Outside the window the sky kept getting lighter.
Inside the room Nicholas slept for the first time in twenty four hours with his arm around his mate and his wolf finally became quiet after a long night.
