Sage of Humanity

Chapter 2191 - 2189: Reckless

No one has ever seen such a soul-stirring scene on the battlefield.

At first glance, it was a massive Divine Crane with its wings spread wide, radiating over an area of about 30 miles, lifelike and exquisite, as if it had emerged from the ancient river of history, sacred and noble, yet wrapped in earth-shattering killing intent.

But upon closer inspection, one would realize it wasn't a Divine Crane at all, but rather shadows propelled by forces, merging and connecting to form a phantom; the Divine Crane was merely the manifestation of that power.

As the Divine Crane appeared, specks of blood exploded like blooming flowers, with each blood flower signaling the end of a life of an Insect Race or Blood Race cultivator.

The Divine Crane spread its wings and let out a piercing cry, as the frenzied release of power caused more blood flowers to continue blooming.

"Crane Wings Array?" The steward observing the battlefield situation from the short-stay palace could hardly believe his eyes. He also hailed from a noble family, albeit not one of the Four Preeminent Noble Families, but rather a mid-tier one.

His strength wasn't particularly strong, but he had been well-read since childhood and naturally knew of the Crane Wings Array.

Because the Huang family, one of the Four Great Noble Families, had attempted to create a Crane Wings Array over three thousand years ago, as detailed in the ancient records. The Huang family invested greatly in this Crane Wings Array, spending over a hundred years in practice to eventually succeed in forming a Crane Wings Array with nearly fifty people. During this period, those fifty people ate and slept together, training and living in unison, even using various secret medicines to adjust their breath to make their auras as similar as possible.

The Huang family had high hopes for these fifty people, but upon bringing them to the battlefield, they realized that while there were effects, they were not as large as expected.

In relation to the enormous investment and waiting, this result was disappointing.

And with the gradual losses over the course of many battles, the Crane Wings Array slowly faded from the stage. Since then, no family had spent time and effort building large-scale arrays; at most, small arrays formed by three or five people.

But what was he seeing now?

A Crane Wings Array composed of a hundred people.

And these hundred people seemed to have only been together for three days!

How was this accomplished?

The steward was baffled.

But he finally understood why Lu Ye's vanguard camp was so bold, daring to charge into that Blood Sea with a hundred member force; it was due to relying on this array!

The battle's result was astounding. The Blood Sea had been breached, with numerous deaths and injuries among the Insect and Blood Races cultivators hidden within, and these numbers continued to grow as the Divine Crane danced aggressively.

The silhouettes within the Crane Wings Array coordinated incredibly smoothly, working together closely; even amidst such fierce fighting, the array did not reveal the slightest error.

After 5 breaths, the surviving Insect Race cultivators finally realized something was amiss and fled in all directions. As for the Blood Race... they had already been specifically targeted by the Crane Wings Camp and met their end in a wave of fierce assaults.

The battlefield's first tough opponent didn't even get a chance to truly exert its influence before being chewed up.

The steward observed from afar, shocked to his core, feeling a surge of hot blood boiling in his chest; if he weren't required to stay here to oversee and coordinate the overall situation, he feared he would have charged out to join the slaughter.

"Change formation!" Lu Ye commanded from the center of the Crane Wings Array, simultaneously channeling force to execute some maneuvering.

The next moment, the enormous Divine Crane cleverly flipped over, spreading a pair of wings spanning 30 miles, and charged towards a nearby battle zone.

It quickly reached position, like a phantom passing through the intensely fought zone, but after the Divine Crane swept through, there were numerous enemy corpses left behind, even the Dao Bones were taken.

"Exhilarating, exhilarating!" At the tip of the left wing, Wang Xun was filled with excitement, feeling that in all his years fighting in battlefields, never had killing the enemy been as satisfying as today. Holding a Dao artifact, he originally could exert the power of the 12th Dao, but with the Crane Wings Array's reinforcement, he vaguely could exert the power of the 13th Dao.

Facing enemies below the 10th Dao, it was completely a one-hit kill.

He wasn't the only one experiencing this feeling; every cultivator in the Crane Wings Array felt the same.

Contained within the array, a sense of omnipotence emerged as if from nowhere.

It was no longer just one hundred ordinary cultivators of the Beginner level; the array's reinforcement allowed everyone to exercise power beyond their own. Objectively speaking, it was nearly like one hundred cultivators above the 10th Dao forming a precise whole, exerting force far greater than simply one hundred cultivators with 10th Dao power.

Advance...

Penetrate, penetrate, penetrate!

Where the Divine Crane passed, it crushed everything overwhelming.

Previously, one couldn't discern who had the advantage on the battlefield, but with the Crane Wings Camp's entrance, the balance increasingly tipped. The clearest sign was the Blood Cloud Battle Planet's defense lines showing more and more breaches, forcing the Insect Matriarch to order a contraction of defenses.

But it was utterly futile.

No matter how impenetrable the defenses seemed, they couldn't withstand the impact of the Crane Wings Array. A mere hundred people resembled an overwhelming wave; wherever it smashed, enemy defenses crumbled.

The Divine Crane's figure more closely resembled a ferocious beast; each sweep devoured numerous enemies, swallowing them whole. After the Divine Crane swept past, those devoured enemies turned into corpses, left behind.

Such a unit was extremely conspicuous on the entire battlefield, and the Insect Matriarch naturally focused on it. It had some understanding of arrays and quickly devised a counter-plan.

Moments later, the Crane Wings Camp had already carved through the vast battlefield without pause. The gigantic crane shadow changed direction and charged back in.

Still, nothing could stand in its way, invincible, even the Blood Sea carefully laid by the Blood Race couldn't become an obstacle. The crane shadow could easily break through with just a wing flap.

Suddenly, Lu Ye felt three of the ninety-nine strands of Qi connected to him suddenly extinguished.

He quickly looked towards the nearest position to himself and saw a grotesque-looking Insect Race cultivator, wielding a Dao artifact, standing before the corpse of a Crane Wings Camp cultivator.

But in the next moment, that fellow was overwhelmed by attacks from all directions.

Although he held a Dao artifact, capable of exerting the power of the 11th Dao, he couldn't withstand so many fierce attacks at once, especially since he was inside the belly of the Divine Crane... with no space to dodge or maneuver.

And with death approaching in an instant, he showed no fear, only a relentless sneer.

Because he had completed the task assigned to him by the Insect Matriarch!

This powerful array... was broken!

Two other positions had similar encounters, where Insect Race cultivators, also wielding Dao artifacts, faced the same fate.

Without the Dao artifacts, they couldn't have killed the Crane Wings Camp cultivators so swiftly.

The three Insect Race wielding Dao artifacts could at least exert ten powers of the Dao, considered elite on any battlefield, but to the Crane Wings Camp, they were only a fleeting moment.

No one mourned the loss of the three companions; there was no time for that. After so many years of battle, they had already seen life and death lightly. The deceased had completed their tasks; the survivors continued to forge ahead.

Moreover, before acting, Lu Ye had already told them the Crane Wings Camp would definitely be targeted by the Insect Matriarch and especially attended to, so they could say they expected this kind of occurrence.

As the three Crane Wings Camp cultivators were killed, countless cheers erupted from the surrounding Insect and Blood Races, converging upon them, having clearly received secret orders from the Insect Matriarch to rush in and completely annihilate the hundred men here!

The Insect Matriarch was also somewhat panicked because such a formidable array had never appeared in the Banlan, ancient or modern. If the human race cultivators formed such arrays, what future would the Insect and Blood Races have? When the time came to clash at the beginner level, they were destined to be defeated.

So they must be thoroughly exterminated, leaving no chance of future trouble!

"It's a disaster!"

Beside the short-stay palace, the steward who had been paying some attention to the Crane Wings Camp saw the change and involuntarily let out a low cry, clutching his fist.

He had already foreseen what was about to happen next.

Yet as the Divine Crane flapped its wings once more, it remained fierce, leaving him dumbfounded.

The situation wasn't quite as he imagined...

Not only was he dumbfounded, but those Insect and Blood Race cultivators who were still excited a moment ago were equally stupefied.

The array... wasn't broken at all! It remained intact and invincible.

Under normal circumstances, a hundred-person array suddenly losing three would likely be broken because, during the formation, each person closely connects their Qi with several nearby people, interlinking like this, forming a whole.

During this time, any interruption of a person's Qi could trigger an avalanche-like crisis, leading to the array's disintegration, which is also the biggest difficulty in forming a multi-person array.

That's why the Insect Matriarch secretly dispatched cultivators with Dao artifacts to assassinate Crane Wings Camp cultivators; it actually sent more than three, but only three succeeded, with more crises being thwarted.

Even with a hundred-person array losing three, even if the array isn't broken, it should be severely shaken. If an external force applies pressure at this time, big trouble can be expected.

However, nobody knew why, even with three deaths in the array, it remained unbreakable, not to mention being broken; there wasn't even the slightest disturbance.

And this misfortune befell the nearby Insect and Blood Race cultivators.

Though the Crane Wings Array was strong, it was, after all, formed by a hundred people, so it appeared less flexible. Earlier, it could continually slay enemies because there were enemies everywhere, and some caught up in the array couldn't dodge in time.

But in reality, this array was unsuitable for pursuit.

Having witnessed its strength, many enemies were prepared, choosing to avoid early when the Crane Wings came charging.

So, despite this round of slaughter, the Crane Wings Camp reaped bountifully but still fell short of expectations.

Now, under the Insect Matriarch's order, a large number of enemies surrounded them, only waiting for the tiger to fall from the sunlit plain, and then strike down and add insult to injury, gathering densely. The Divine Crane's wings wrapped around, enfolding many figures into its embrace, and then swallowed them into its belly.

On the battlefield, death had become an eternal melody.
