“My name is Wyatt. Wyatt Hart.” I answered her in a small voice.

“What are you doing out here all alone?”

I watched her scratch her head, puffy pink curls bouncing to and fro.

She shrugged.

“I don't know, I think I fell out of a plane and then I landed in the lava and then I beat the spider and now I'm here, with you.” Her words were rushed but true.

“Yeah that's what happened.” I walked around her, checking for signs of injury. She was fine though, much to my younger selfs relief.

“Also how did you survive that lava?!”

I didn't know what she was. An alien? Robot? The scales and horns and tail painted a picture.

So I flat out asked her ; “are you a dragon?”

Another shrug. This time she chewed on a strand of her hair.

“I'm not sure. Do you have any snacks on you?”

Her stomach grumbled letting me know she was as hungry as I was confused.

“I've got a candy bar. Do you want it?”

“Yes please!” Her manners and wide grin warmed my heart. I think, If i had to put a point on it, that exact moment would be the time I fell in love with Sapphyra.

I handed her the candy bar and I watched her devour the whole thing, paper and all.

“Well that's one way to get your protein in. How old are you?”

She started counting her fingers.

“This many.” She held up her whole hand adorably.

“I see I'm this many.” I held up both hands and put one finger down.

“Oh that's a lot! Do you have any more food?”

“No but I can get you some.” I would get her an entire restaurant if she needed it, “and how about we find your mom too.”

“Okay! You're being so nice, are you always nice?”

I furrowed my brow and adjusted my glasses.

“No, I'm not always nice.” But for her I could be.

My memory drifted back to how hours before, my father made me watch as he held down one of his enemies and ripped his throat out in front of me. He looked me dead in the eyes and said “son, get used to this because this is your future.”

At 9 years old I was already being groomed to rule a criminal empire. It wasn't just the fact that I was being groomed to rule it, it was that I was supposed to do it without any werewolf abilities.

My entire family were all werewolves, but not me.

I was born without the gene for the longest time. I’d taken tests, I did rituals but no matter what I did I never heard my wolf speak to me. My family came to the natural conclusion that I was wolfless. And without a wolf they pushed me harder, experimenting on me. They gave me drugs to push me farther to force out the monster that they all could become—said every little thing they did was to help me but all they helped me do was see that my own flesh and blood were the real monsters.

But then I met her, the little pink dragon girl.

If it wasn't for her I'm not sure where I would be right now, probably dead now that I think about it. She saved my life that day but what she didn't know was that I was determined to make sure she would be safe too.

I don't know what it was, maybe it was me being indebted to someone for saving me. Maybe it was just me clinging onto someone who was kind and selfless.

No that's not what it was.

Something in me grafted itself onto her on that day. And for the next 12 years of my life she made everything worth it.

I managed to get in contact with Sapphyra’s mother and stepfather and fly them on a plane here all without my parents knowing. When they weren't laser focused on me I could get a lot done.

But then again if they weren't focused on me then they were focused on my sister, Finley.

She had it worse than me. She was older and her training was complete, the experiments that they pushed onto her changed her and made her lethal with her mind. She was gone from the house a lot. And when she came back it felt like she left pieces of herself behind.

And Dante?

My older brother couldn't care less he was too busy thinking about his mate Selicity. While I was happy for him to have his little girlfriend our family had a lot more trouble going on than that but I guess that's why they picked me to be the new Alpha of the pack.

A position I'd never wanted.

“Your memories are overlapping. What does this have to do with the sins you committed that ended up killing 2 million people?”

“I don't know. You're the one pulling my memories, shouldn't you be able to funnel them correctly?”

Menmosyne grumbled and flipped a few more pages in her book.

“Fine. You wanted us to see that day? We saw it. Any other days you need before we come to a decision?”

One more memory is all they plan to give me? Yeah this is definitely a kangaroo chord.

“Hey! You can give him more than just two!” Sapph interjected. Bless her.

“It took me at least three to get my point across. Besides, I like looking at myself from his perspective.”

My wife's words made me smile. She always managed to see the right side of everything even in absolute darkness. That's why she's my shield in the light and I am her flame in the darkness.

Come on Wyatt think think think. We only have one memory to get across to these crooked ass judges.

This will be a hell of a lot easier if I had my entire mind.

I glanced at Noa watching him smile as I basically fell to pieces.

“You're enjoying this a little too much.”

How could I not be, seeing you struggle at a simple equation? I thought I'd never see the day. What are you talking about simple

Noa yawned

Do I have to give you all the answers?”

“I seriously have no idea what you are speaking about but if you have something to say please spit it out.”

Noa cracked his neck and his face darkened as he glared out at Wyatt.

You want the answer? Fine. I'll give it to you as soon as you own up to the lie you've been telling yourself your whole life.”

“What lie? I haven't been lying to myself.”

Noa's shit-eating grin sent tingles up my spine in the worst way.

Oh yeah? If you're wolfless, then what the fuck am I?”

And before the eyes of everyone in the court Noa jumped over the judges chair and he transformed into the biggest wolf like creature I have ever seen. This was not a normal transformation, not even for a dire wolf. No he had the wings of a dragon on his back, deep blue fur mixed with dark black scales covered his body.

Why did seeing him like that call to me like a siren?

I started sweating. My face grew hot and my skin felt like it was too tight for my body. Pain struck me all over. I felt the first rip of my skin with that dark blue fur popping out underneath it.

“Wyatt!”

I heard my wife calling for me but there was nothing she could do. I was transforming into the same kind of creature as Noa.
