"Don’t you have a Healing System ability in your body now? How do you use it?"
Zephyr Sterling’s answer was pretty much the same as Yvonne Lynch’s: "How do I use it? Don’t you just... use it when you want to? I don’t consciously think about how to use it. When I need it, I just think about using it, and it works."
That was about as helpful as saying nothing at all, but it seemed to highlight the fundamental difference Faye felt between herself and them.
She could feel the power within her, but every time she tried to use it, she couldn’t help but wonder, ’What kind of magic is this? What’s the right way to use it?’ and so on.
"When you first got your power, you probably didn’t know it was a healing-type ability, right?"
Don’t be fooled by Zephyr Sterling’s age; although older than Faye Yardley, he had spent most of his life on Aquaria living in the mountains with limited human contact. His mind was even simpler than Faye’s.
Hearing this, Zephyr Sterling asked in return, "Since it’s energy inside your own body, why would you think you wouldn’t know what it’s for?"
Seeing Faye Yardley’s thoughtful expression, Zephyr Sterling continued, "You might feel like there’s a foreign energy inside you right now, but since it’s in your body, it’s a part of you. Shouldn’t using something that belongs to you come naturally? Like your hands, your eyes, or your mouth. Do you ever think about the ’correct’ way to use them? You just use them, and you know."
Faye Yardley nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Zephyr Sterling. I think I have a rough idea of what my problem is now."
"Don’t thank me, I didn’t really answer anything." Zephyr Sterling then said, "By the way, what do you think about having my master come live on your island permanently?"
"Master Veridian? If he’s willing, I’d of course welcome him."
Then, a man with an explosive afro appeared on the other side of the call. "I don’t need to. This world is quite interesting, and I’m not done exploring it yet."
Zephyr Sterling clearly had a different opinion. "Master, you can explore the world from the island, too."
"Hmph, since when do you get to arrange my affairs? Faye, don’t listen to him. If I want to go to your island, I’ll tell you myself."
Faye Yardley looked at the sky-high afro, struggling to hold back her laughter. "Okay, okay. Well, I don’t have anything else, so I’ll hang up now. Please think about it, Master."
After hanging up, Faye Yardley stretched lazily.
The sea’s climate was fickle. Yesterday the temperature had been pleasant, but today the heat was already making her feel a bit faint.
Still, the event had just ended, so it was a rare period of calm.
Faye Yardley sent out an invitation for people to settle on her island in the massive group chat she had created. The response this time was much more enthusiastic than the last.
It couldn’t be helped. The group only had a few hundred people, yet more than ten had disappeared after a single event. That ratio was quite terrifying.
Since the island’s residential area was still under construction, and she really needed a group of skilled craftsmen, she could take her time choosing people.
To be honest, Ethan Yardley’s guild was far more attractive than Faye Yardley’s island at the moment.
Over there, people could not only avoid risks but also continue to strengthen themselves through the system.
Logan Langdon had been happy about acquiring ownership of his island, but that joy had gradually faded amidst yesterday’s string of server-wide announcements.
He couldn’t understand it. He had worked so hard and had a bunch of skilled people helping him. He had even managed to whisk away the Little Mermaid during this event, but in the end, others were still just as good as him, if not better.
He wanted to stand at the pinnacle of the world, only to find that there were far too many people walking the same path.
Faye Yardley hadn’t expected that after she had rescued the Prince ahead of schedule, the Little Mermaid would just end up in Logan Langdon’s arms anyway.
If she had known, she probably would have just sighed. ’As the male lead, his plot armor is just too strong.’
Beautiful women appeared by his side one after another. Even if she intercepted one, his harem would still gradually grow, providing him with powerful support.
At that moment, Bella was in front of Faye Yardley. After eating the meat imbued with Divinity yesterday, she had slept until now and seemed even more full of life.
As a combat-type intelligent robot, she constantly craved battle.
"Go spar with Kingston."
"Okay, sister."
Watching Bella Yardley skip away, Faye Yardley began to wonder what she should do now.
It felt like there were many things waiting for her to deal with, but she didn’t want to handle any of them.
’Whatever. I’ll just try to find that feeling he mentioned—the feeling that the ability is a part of my own body.’
’If it’s mine, then I should naturally know what the magic inside me can do. There shouldn’t be any obstacles.’
She sat cross-legged and began to meditate. Soon, the Health Care Scripture started circulating naturally within her. She focused on the thought that the ball of energy inside her had always been hers, that she knew it, and so it...
’Damn it, how the hell do I use this thing?’
She couldn’t figure it out at all.
Giving up would have been easy, but now she was being stubborn with herself.
’If other people can do it, then so can I!’
But some things really couldn’t be achieved just by forcing them.
Faye Yardley exhausted her mind and spirit but still came up with nothing.
Finally, she leaped directly from Goliath’s head into the ocean. She began to sink at first, but when she stopped struggling, the seawater slowly lifted her up until she was floating on the surface.
The midday sun was blinding. Faye Yardley gently raised a hand and murmured, "The sunlight is gentle. It’s not burning at all where it hits my skin, and it feels so warm and comfortable."
The moment she finished speaking, the sunlight shining on her seemed to distort, and it truly was no longer scorchingly hot.
A thin layer of mist even seemed to appear in the air before her, preventing the sun from shining directly on her.
Faye Yardley’s eyes lit up. ’My magic ability!’
’It has to be!’
"Hahaha..."
Ever heard the saying, "Just when you think you’re at a dead end, a new path appears"? This is it!
’So that’s what he meant. You just use it, and it comes out naturally.’
’Hee hee~’
Overjoyed, Faye Yardley stood up directly from the surface of the sea, took a few steps on the water, and leaped onto the raft.
Her good mood was so infectious that it spread to everyone else on the raft; even Blackwood, Bella, and the vines she had planted seemed to become more cheerful.
She returned to her bedroom with a spring in her step, took out a High Tier Body Refining Pill, and used her magic ability on herself.
"I declare that I won’t feel any pain when I take this."
With that, she swallowed the Body Refining Pill in one gulp.
Pain instantly swept through her entire body.
X﹏X
’How did it fail?’
’Oh, right, Illusion Technique. An Illusion Technique that distorts reality. Why can’t it work on my own sense of pain?’
However, compared to when she had taken it before reaching Tier Three, the pain level was still a bit lower.
But that was hardly useful. She couldn’t even deceive herself! How infuriating!
’It worked on the sun, so why not on my own pain?’
Faye Yardley couldn’t help but curse herself: ’Oh, you’re so noble, so amazing, you just can’t deceive yourself...’
