Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 342: When Lacking Something, Just Enter Dungeon 1Wyatt Thorne and the others watched the line of white mist appear before them. The tinkling and clanging sounds coming from within still felt magical.
"Our Island Master is certainly a woman of action. She always does what she says she’s going to do."
Wyatt Thorne smiled and said, "That’s a good thing. At least the Island Master isn’t just leaving us to fend for ourselves on this island. She’s doing her best so we can all live the way we used to in Veridia."
"Village Chief, once more people arrive tomorrow, we’ll probably have to start calling you Town Mayor."
"You little rascal, making fun of an old man like me. You should be more concerned about how your parents are going to get home later."
"Ah, Village Chief, this won’t take too long, will it?"
"You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? The residential complex across from us has been under construction for days now."
"Ah! What do I do then?! Should I just start walking around this misty road now?"
While the road was being built, no one could cross the belt of white mist. This made it very difficult for anyone cut off on the other side to get home on their own.
The mist belts were not only long, but there were also many of them. Some unlucky people were even trapped between three of them, unable to go anywhere.
All they could do was wait for the road construction to finish so they could get out.
Stuck inside, the only thing they could do to pass the time was pull weeds.
"Sloan, there’s a new factory being built next to ours. I wonder what kind it is. Do you think it could be the glass factory we so desperately need?"
Leo Sloan stood at the factory gate, watching as the road before him was enveloped in white mist while the sound of clanging and banging echoed from the side. "I hope so. Mr. Yardley came by earlier and said the Island Master wants to build a new factory and a road. It’s just that if the construction takes too long, we might not be able to get home today."
"What’s the big deal? We can just stay at the factory for a day."
Another person sighed. "I’m just afraid it won’t be finished in a day. Just think about that residential complex across from us."
"It... It shouldn’t be, right? It’s just a road. It should be pretty quick."
Fortunately, their worries didn’t come to pass. The new factory was not yet finished, but after five hours, the white mist on the road dissipated, revealing its newly constructed form.
Although it was only a two-lane road, it had sidewalks and a green median strip. The road before them was countless times more impressive than the old dirt path.
Someone couldn’t help but remark, "The people who come later really have it better."
"Hey, how is this them having it better? It’s us, the ones who came first, who have the advantage."
"I can get home twice as fast today."
"It would be great if we had bicycles or electric scooters."
"You’re good with your hands. Just make yourself a wooden bicycle."
"Hey, you know what? I’ll do just that when I have some free time."
Wyatt Thorne stepped onto the newly built road and looked at the median strip, which was just green grass. ’Looks like if we want to beautify the place, we’ll have to do it ourselves.’ he thought.
He wasn’t flustered about all the people arriving tomorrow; the most important matter—housing arrangements—had already been sorted out. He had asked Faye Yardley to have the system run a lottery for every household when it sent out the confirmation forms.
With the housing lottery complete, all he had to do on his end was hand out the house keys according to the list.
’Life here is supposed to be about being self-sufficient and standing on our own two feet, but in reality, we’re all relying on the Island Master to enjoy the conveniences of the system.’
’If it were just up to us, I’m afraid we wouldn’t have even managed to build our own houses by now.’
’I need to talk to the Island Master. We need a public administration hall, and the people making wedding clothes need a public workspace too.’
’When there were fewer people, there wasn’t as much to do, so we could just make do and get by.’
’But eventually, things need to get on the right track.’
After receiving Wyatt Thorne’s request, Faye Yardley knew it was time for her to enter Dungeon 1 and kill some zombies.
This was because only the zombie-killing Dungeon awarded points.
The items in the Point Shop would be enough to meet her needs.
Even though it was evening, Faye Yardley still took out the Dungeon 1 Invitation Card and confirmed its use.
In the next instant, the putrid, fishy stench of decay assaulted her nose, making her wrinkle her brow in disgust.
She had even put on a mask, but she hadn’t expected her enhanced Constitution to also make her sense of smell more sensitive. Even through the mask, the smell was so bad it almost made her throw up last night’s dinner.
She glanced at her surroundings. She was standing inside a small storefront on a street.
The walls and cluttered shelves were splattered with dark bloodstains, and an incomplete skeleton lay on the floor.
She silently took out a pair of gloves and put them on. A long spear appeared in her hand, and she used it to prod here and there, even poking at the walls, but found nothing.
She used the spear to shift the pile of bones and discovered something unusual on the floor beneath them.
Faye Yardley confirmed that she was alone in the small shop, then walked over and used her spear to press hard on the crack between the floor tiles. With a CLICK, a tile shifted, and an even more pungent odor wafted up from below.
Holding her breath, she moved the entire tile aside, revealing a pitch-black space below.
She took out a Luminous Pearl and shone it inside. Well now, chained up inside were two rotting corpses, but what really caught Faye Yardley’s attention was the armory below.
So, after waiting for the smell from below to dissipate a little, Faye Yardley decided to jump down.
’Weapons... It’s been a while since I’ve restocked.’
’I wonder if the weapons I find now will be more powerful than my old ones.’
’But regardless of whether they’re stronger or not, it’s never a mistake to take them. Even if the guns can’t kill zombies, I can still use them to kill other Otherkin creatures.’
Once she was down, aside from the even more unbearable stench, there was no other danger.
She swept all the weapons into her inventory, even using her spear to turn over the rotting corpses to make sure she hadn’t missed anything, before leaping effortlessly back to the surface.
There was nothing else in the small shop. Faye Yardley observed the scene outside: an empty street. It seemed the zombies had all vanished on their own.
’In any case, any human who could survive here would probably be very different from a normal person by now.’
’No one can live in a virus-filled environment for long and remain unchanged.’
Last time, in Dungeon 3, she had learned there were other living people in this world besides the zombies, but they weren’t very keen on interacting with outsiders like her.
Faye Yardley didn’t dwell on the thought, opening the shop door and walking straight out.
A dead-silent street was even more terrifying than one filled with zombies.
There was no telling what might suddenly appear on a street like this.
Moving as quietly as possible, Faye Yardley was in a state of high alert. Suddenly, her gaze sharpened.
A horde of animals with obvious zombie-like characteristics appeared up ahead.
She could understand if it were just cats, dogs, and rats, but why were there so many lizards and snakes in a city? And was that big one a leopard?
’And why aren’t the zombie animals killing each other?’
