Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 345: Besides Me, Who Else? After taking the items, Baby peeked his head out again to look at her, his mouth twisting even further. "Miss Yard...ley. Trade. For you."
After speaking, Baby lowered his head and fumbled for something. A moment later, he threw an object toward Faye Yardley.
She reached out and caught it. It was a small stone.
Faye Yardley was about to say he didn’t have to, but Baby said, "Thank you. Going back now. Bye-bye."
Then his little head retracted, and all was quiet.
After waiting for a moment and hearing nothing more, Faye Yardley walked over to check. There was no one in sight.
She searched back and forth several times, but the area was empty, holding nothing but stones and crumbling ruins.
’Where did he go?’
If not for the small stone she was still clutching in her hand, Faye Yardley would have thought she had imagined the whole thing.
[Baby’s Gift: Do not underestimate this stone. It can make you braver.]
She carefully examined the small stone in her hand. To think this thing was actually recognized by the system.
It’s just...
’How do I use it?’
"Make me braver? How?"
Faye Yardley looked at it from every angle but couldn’t figure it out. Just as she was about to put the small stone into her inventory, it dissolved from her palm into a stream of energy and surged into her body.
It then followed her bloodstream to her heart.
Her heartbeat grew firmer and more powerful.
[Constitution +1, Strength +2, agility +1]
’Holy cow~’
Her personal Attributes had increased by 4 points in an instant. Four points for just four rice balls—this was the best deal in history!
It was as easy as picking up money in a dream.
’Honestly, who else could have luck like this!’
No one would believe her if she told them.
It was just too incredible.
Baby was far too generous.
He was practically a little god of wealth.
If she ran into him again, she had to give him lots and lots of good food and drinks.
Thinking of drinks, Faye Yardley let out a soft "ah" and took out a bunch of canned beverages from her inventory. These wouldn’t expire anytime soon.
Besides, he said he was six. There shouldn’t be any problem with a six-year-old drinking beverages.
Then she wrote on a piece of paper: Thank you for the gift, Baby. I hope you and your family will enjoy these drinks.
It didn’t matter whether Baby and his family would come back or if they would even see this.
Some things you do just to put your own mind at ease and make yourself happy, not for any other reason.
Afterward, Faye Yardley mounted Bella and left the ruins. An occasion this happy called for celebrating by killing some more zombie animals.
While she was enthusiastically slaughtering zombie animals, the date had already turned to the 28th.
Those preparing to land on Conch Isle were already on their rafts, ready to disembark. They were also saying their goodbyes on the world channel. After all, they would soon lose access to the system, so they couldn’t waste their three-sentences-a-day limit.
As for their friends and family, they had already said all there was to say. With the moment upon them, there was nothing left to talk about.
The residents of Conch Isle weren’t busy with other things today. Seeing the residential complex completed, they were already waiting at its entrance.
Wyatt Thorne said to Franklin Yardley and a few other young men, "Go into the complex and check the layout of the buildings as assigned. Hurry back, and make sure you don’t mix up the keys for each building."
Then he addressed the others, "Everyone else, proceed with your previously assigned tasks. The new arrivals will be here in half an hour. Everyone must be sure to maintain order."
Everyone except for the children was bustling with activity.
Wyatt Thorne was also feeling overwhelmed. He couldn’t contact the Island Master. He hadn’t expected that on such a momentous day, the Island Master would just ignore everything and go straight into a Dungeon.
It was a good thing that the Island Master was hardworking and determined, but he wished that Faye Yardley, as the Island Master, would learn a thing or two about management.
She was always a hands-off manager. While an old guy like him was around, he could help watch over things. But in the long run, or if someone else took over for him, this wouldn’t work.
However, since the Island Master chose to trust him, he wouldn’t betray that trust.
Besides, Franklin Yardley might be the next village chief. It was always a good idea to mentor him more.
Wyatt Thorne soon had no time for such thoughts, as one matter after another awaited his arrangement and coordination.
Meanwhile, Ethan Yardley was looking at the messages on the world channel with a strange expression. Logan Langdon had finally announced that people applying to join his island should preferably prepare their own housing blueprints.
Graham Quinn looked at the long-silent Ethan Yardley and asked in confusion, "Boss, what are you thinking about? The people preparing to go to an island now surely won’t overlap with the teammates we’re trying to recruit. What are you worried about?"
Ethan Yardley shook his head slightly. "I’m not worried about that. Today is the day my sister’s island is getting new people. Logan Langdon suddenly announced that to get on his island quickly, it’s best to bring your own housing and upgrade blueprints. I’m just thinking about how much my sister lost out."
Uh...
Graham Quinn didn’t know how to answer that. He didn’t share the sentiment of feeling like his sister was getting a raw deal. Besides, their recruitment standards were clearly different.
After taking stock of the items in his inventory, Gavin Donovan heard this and said, "Boss, Faye isn’t the type to haggle over every detail. Besides, for her island, it’s not like you can get in just by having blueprints. You need to have a skill, at the very least, or know her personally and be a person of good character."
"True. They have to be screened by Zachary Pierce and his team before they can even land on the island. The quality of applicants isn’t on the same level. Making the same demands would be too harsh." Ethan Yardley was instantly convinced. Then he said, "Let’s start recruiting too. Today’s the 28th. Interviews will end before the 31st."
Graham Quinn chuckled. "The reserve candidates in the main group chat are all waiting. Do we still need to recruit from outside?"
"Of course we need to bring in fresh blood from the outside. Just set aside a third of the spots for people from the main group."
"Got it. Don’t worry, Boss. The few of us will do an initial screening, and then we’ll give you the final list for you to decide."
"Alright."
Ethan Yardley thought for a moment, then stepped away and made a call to Jay Jonas.
The call rang for a long while before it was answered. "Sorry, I’ve been busy. Is something wrong, Ethan?"
"I was just wondering, Mr. Jonas, are you still planning to have 100,000 people land on the island at the same time?"
"Yes. My situation is a bit different from Logan Langdon’s. You know how it is on my side. Forget 100,000, even if I doubled that number, they wouldn’t complain about having to live in tents temporarily without houses." Jay Jonas was quite confident about this. The resilience and hard-working nature of Veridians wasn’t just an empty saying.
What’s more, they are all families of Veridian military and police personnel. Their sense of duty is much higher than that of ordinary people.
Ethan Yardley chuckled. "Well, Mr. Jonas, since you can’t accommodate that many people anyway, how about I help you take some off your hands?"
"The beads from your abacus are practically hitting me in the face."
