Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 347: Conch Isle’s Development in Progress’Just having the building isn’t enough. I can make do with the school for now, but what’s a hospital without medical equipment?’
’But figuring out what equipment a hospital needed completely stumped Faye Yardley.’
So, she took a simple, brute-force approach and bought two sets of everything, big and small, listed under the hospital category. The points from this Dungeon run alone weren’t enough, so she had to dip into her reserved points, spending 53,000.
’Then she remembered she wanted researchers to conduct studies, which meant a laboratory was essential.’ So, she spent another 60,000 reserved points.
Finally, she spent a total of 37,000 points on basic materials, as well as Physical Potions and Energy Potions for her own use.
After all that, her reserved points were down to exactly 705,000.
Once all the exchanges were successful, Faye Yardley prepared to return to the raft.
Just before leaving, she suddenly thought of residential community blueprints. She did a quick search and felt the price wasn’t too expensive.
So she spent the remaining five thousand points, bringing back five sets of large-scale community blueprints and two office building blueprints. According to the plans, one community could house 5,000 to 10,000 people without a problem.
The first thing she did after returning to the raft was take a nice, long bath.
Only after she emerged, feeling refreshed, was she in the mood to start planning the construction of the hospital, the school, and the all-important laboratory.
She checked the system interface. Her brother had called her twice, and Franklin Yardley had just called an hour ago.
After a moment of thought, she called Franklin Yardley first.
"Island Master, Thorne had something to ask you earlier. He’s in a meeting right now. Should I go get him?"
Faye Yardley shook her head. "No need. Have the newcomers moved in yet?"
"Yes, they arrived the day before yesterday. They seem to be doing well so far, but they’re short on a lot of furniture. They’re planning to organize a group to chop down trees. There are quite a few craftsmen among them, so they’ll make some simple pieces first."
"Oh, I see. Good, they’re very proactive."
"Yes, their morale is very high."
Faye Yardley then said, "Alright, I understand. Now that there are more people, please inform everyone that I’m preparing to build the school and hospital in Planning Area 1. Anyone in that area needs to clear out for a bit."
"Understood. Also, after many days of working through the night, the wedding dress is 80% complete. And the shop furniture you needed, Island Master, is all finished. It’s even had two coats of varnish applied."
"That was fast. Are Mr. Kyle and Auntie Summers still on the island?"
"They are. They want to wait until the entire wedding dress set is finished before returning to their shop in Lumina. If you have other arrangements, Island Master, they can leave earlier."
"I don’t. Let them stay on the island for now. A new event probably won’t be starting anytime soon anyway."
After hanging up, she called her brother. He picked up quickly, and it sounded very lively on his end, with lots of people.
"Faye, you’re out of the Dungeon!"
"Yeah. Did you need me for something?"
Ethan Yardley suddenly felt like his little sister was all grown up and leaving the nest. "Can’t I call you even if there’s nothing wrong? I just recruited a new batch of people over here. Everyone just arrived, and we’re about to get to know each other and spar a little. Want to come watch?"
"I can’t, I still have a lot to do." Faye Yardley gave her brother a thumbs-up. "You’re amazing, Bro. The guild has gotten a lot bigger all of a sudden."
Ethan Yardley scratched his head. "Alright, then. I’ll call you over once things have settled down here. Oh, right, let me ask you something. If you build a school on your island, can the kids from my side attend?"
"I don’t know. I’ll have to see after I get it built. I’ll let you know either way."
"Okay. You go get busy then."
After talking with her brother, Faye Yardley thought she was done with her calls.
’Huh? No, wait. There was still something she needed to confirm.’ She then called Zachary Pierce, but it rang for a long time with no answer. After a moment’s thought, Faye Yardley called Eleanor Jonas instead.
Eleanor Jonas had recently moved into the guild headquarters founded by Zachary Pierce to focus on his role as chief of logistics.
So he picked up the phone very quickly.
"Hey there, Yardley! It’s rare for you to call me. Are you calling to ask if there are any researchers among the new group of people who just arrived on your island?" Eleanor Jonas sounded like he was in a great mood today. "Don’t worry, there are."
"Okay, thank you. I just came out of Dungeon 1 and redeemed a laboratory, so I can build it right away. If you guys haven’t had the chance to create a lab yet, they can come to my island first. Once you have yours built, they can move from one island to another to settle down."
Eleanor Jonas said in surprise, "You mean islanders can migrate between islands? They aren’t just stuck in one place permanently?"
Faye Yardley nodded. "Yeah. Since Mr. Jonas is an Island Master now, he was bound to find out sooner or later. But they can’t go back to the raft. And if they do, they won’t be reconnected to the system."
"Thank you for telling me this. In that case, we can start some of the research over at your place. But really, it’s best to do it at the guild headquarters, where we can take advantage of the system’s features."
Faye Yardley agreed with that. Then, her eyes lit up. "You guys could consider my brother’s guild, you know."
"Haha, your brother’s guild is actually already cooperating with us in many areas. Speaking of which, I really have to thank you and your brother. You’ve both helped us out a lot."
The two exchanged a few more words before hanging up. After all, they were both busy people; once the business was settled, a few pleasantries were all that was needed.
Only then did Faye Yardley check the rafts and materials collected by the system from the people who had come to the island.
There was a one-click dismantle function.
Faye Yardley thought for a moment. She set aside the beds and sofas, but she couldn’t be bothered to sort through the rest and just dismantled it all.
’The people who came to the island couldn’t expect her to provide everything, after all.’
’Besides, they were excited about building things from scratch. Giving them a little something was a pleasant surprise, but providing everything would just crush their morale.’
’It’s better not to take on everything yourself. That rarely leads to a good outcome.’
When she went downstairs, she saw a beaming Willow Yardley. "You’re back, Sis! Want to get something to eat first?"
"Yes, please. Could you fix me something tasty?"
’She checked the time—it was already almost 2 PM.’
’Sigh. She hadn’t had a proper meal in over two days.’
After her meal, she spoke with Wyatt Thorne. They tentatively appointed Marlin as the person in charge of the island’s laboratory. He even greeted Faye Yardley over a video call; he was an elderly man, already over sixty.
He seemed to be in very high spirits, though. His only request was that the laboratory be built in a remote location, as they could live there and take shifts.
Faye Yardley nodded. At the end of the road, in the opposite direction of the industrial zone, was a large mountain. This wasn’t too far from the Psionic Elephant, but that area was not only blocked by an Array but also concealed, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
