Chapter 1282: Chapter 1282: You’re Back, I’m Really Happy

Watt Bennet clearly knew there was no way she could fall asleep. After staring at Summer Sutton for quite a while, he suddenly spoke. "Tonight’s dinner was something I deliberately arranged."

His words didn’t actually surprise Summer Sutton.

The moment she had just arrived at the dinner and he showed up right after, she had already guessed as much.

But hearing him say it so bluntly still lightly tugged at Summer’s heart.

"Ever since I knew you’d come back to the country, I’ve wanted to see you, but I was afraid you’d turn me down." Watt’s voice sounded again.

Summer kept her eyes closed, pretending to sleep, and said nothing.

"All this time, the thing that made me happiest was finding out you were coming back." He didn’t care whether she would respond to what he said; Watt’s voice continued, "I don’t know why you came back, but to me, the reason doesn’t matter. What matters is—you’re back."

As he spoke, his gaze suddenly brightened a little.

Like a sudden bloom of light in the dead of night, his eyes shimmered as he looked at her.

"Summer, you’re back. I’m really happy." His lips parted slowly, and his voice suddenly dropped low.

There was a clear joy in his tone; even with her eyes still closed, Summer could easily imagine his expression at that moment.

Her long, thick lashes trembled slightly, and her closed eyes suddenly opened.

Watt’s head was resting right beside hers. Although they weren’t lying on the same sofa, their sleeping positions were extraordinarily intimate.

Summer turned her face to the side, and her gaze crashed right into his eyes, vast as a starry sea.

He was looking at her, his gaze unfathomably deep, like a boundless ocean, as if it would pull her in and keep her there, forever sinking.

He was smiling, the corners of his lips holding a faint curve. Even in the darkness of the room, that smile was so dazzling that Summer could feel it.

By her ear, Watt’s voice went on, slow and lulling, like a hypnotic spell. "All this time you were gone, I’ve been living alone, no one around to disturb me."

A man of Watt’s status had no shortage of women throwing themselves at him; on various social occasions, plenty of clients would try to send women his way too.

In his early twenties, at the height of normal physical needs, with Summer not by his side for so many months, if he didn’t have any self-control, it would have been easy for something to happen.

He was telling her that whether she was there or not, the only woman he wanted had always been her.

Summer’s body tensed a little. She quietly listened to his words, still not making a sound.

Her silence made Watt tug his lips in helplessness.

After a moment of silence, the light in his eyes seemed to grow even brighter. "I want to know how you’ve been during this time—if life was good when you were abroad on your own, what you usually did, whether there was anything dissatisfying, either overseas or back home."

Summer guessed he probably couldn’t see her clearly, so she quickly closed her eyes again and went on pretending to sleep.

She ignored his questions.

She was already forcing herself to sleep when Watt suddenly threw out, "Summer Sutton, I know you’re not asleep."

His words choked her a little. She had no choice but to open her eyes again.

"If you can’t sleep, then let’s talk. We were husband and wife once, after all. We haven’t seen each other for so long—there’s nothing you want to say to me?" Watt lifted an eyebrow.

"My life is just like that," Summer answered perfunctorily.
